  3. Thank you for the Tuesday report, Rich. I think I'm losing the fight against procrastination, enjoy books, but would not dare try to toss an egg. I see a lot of truth in Roosevelt's quote. I don't think I've been to Isle of Skye. I'll pass on the meal. 4. @Quartzsite Cruiser if it was late at night could you have been docked at an industrial area somewhere. It also could be a matter of water levels on the river. Roy
  5. How big was the old Regal Princess. Some smaller ships can dock in town, and it may also depend on water levels on the river. Roy
  6. The procedures for leaving Buenos Aires and boarding the ship are pretty intense but once you complete them it becomes just like a port call. You CAN leave the ship the day you board but the ships dock in a cargo area and you need a shuttle to get to the ship and there isn't much close to the port so it's probably better to unpack the day you board and leave the touring for the next day.' There may be some people with delayed flights coming in the day of departure so the muster drill will not happen until close to departure time. Roy
  7. I wasn't that impressed by Belem. I think when I was there there was also a riverboat tour of the river system. This is how @bobpatjdescribed it: Happy Canada Day! We have had Belem on two BHBs itineraries. The first was on Prinsendam in January, 2011. We took a HAL tour of the Giant market and away from the city, a tour of the Zoobotanical Park. Belem is a 30 minute bus ride from the port. We returned on Maasdam in February, 2015. This time we took a 5 hour HAL Amazon River System Adventure by Riverboat tour including a 45 minute walk through the Jungle, so we didn’t get into Belem this time. Roy
  8. Belem is situated pretty far up the Guama River and ships must actually anchor pretty far downstream from Icoracy, about 10 miles downstream. On February 6, 2015 MS Maasdam anchored off Icoracy. Instead of using our own tenders Amazon system river boats were used to take us ashore. We could just barely see the Belem Skyline from the ship: I just noted a couple of the sights of Belem. First was the Presepio, dating from 1616: There was a panoramic view from the Presepio: We also visited the Basilica of our Lady of Nazareth: On the way back we got a nice view of our BHB: th I was due to visit Dakar on the final segment of Amsterdam's 2014 World Cruise but it did not happen (we cancelled all West Africa stops) due to the Ebola outbreak. Roy
  9. I did not. We were due in Illulissat on September 7, but the ice there was so bad we had to scramble a bit to get out but did do a Zodiac tour of the icebergs, Here's my blog post for that day: https://aroundamericabitbybit.wordpress.com/2016/09/08/day-cs22-wednesday-september-7-ilulissat-greenland/ Roy

  12. Thank you for the Labor (or Labour for our northern neighbors) Day report, Rich. I try not to be late but it doesn't make a lot of difference for the retired, and will especially salute charity. I do enjoy cheese pizza, I love the quote but will pass on the meal. I visited Belem once, 2015, on the Maasdam. I'm glad that they have at least identified the suspect in Saskatchewan, and hope the police and Mounties have a Labour Day celebration later today. 13. Cruisetimetables shows Oosterdam in Venice as well. I do still feel that was a likely matter of capacity in Trieste. There were 3 ships there, NCL Gem, Costa Luminosa, and Mein Schiff 5; doesn't look to me like Trieste can handle 4. All the other ships seem to be doing round trips from Trieste so it might be just a matter of priority, or Italy may have some cabotage laws (like the PVSA) which would prohibit them from leaving Trieste and returning to another Italian City while Oosterdam began her previous voyage in Greece and ends the new one in Spain. Roy
  14. After yesterday's difficulties I had a plan b in case I could not get a sunrise. Not great but a lot better than yesterday. This is from the school office building in my neighborhood and the sun while not just rising came brightly through the tree cover: Roy

  16. Prayers for Allen but thank God it was handled so well. Roy
  17. Thank you for the Sunday report, Rich. I wonder how many ships Trieste can handle. There are 2 other ships there now so I wonder if it's the same issue as the Oosterdam in Miami in November. I like the three days although I'm not a lot into spices. I find the quote a bit strange and will pass on the chickpeas. I had never even heard of today's port but see the 2023 Grand Africa is headed there. I have a feeling @grapau27 is at sea but see 2 logical choices for his ships so it's still a bit of a mystery. 19. There are 4 days in September for which I do not have a sunrise, including today and tomorrow. I decided I would go all out to get one and headed off to my local parking garage. It turned out to be cloudy but I pressed on. Near the end of my walk the sun started to appear through the first break in the clouds. The real thing was somewhat better than what the camera shows, but I'm posting it because my bull headedness won out over common sense. Roy
