Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Yes! I was on Majesty OTS in 1996 and he was Captain. I had asked him for a tour of the bridge, and he actually let me visit while the ship was returning to Miami on Sunday morning. He stated if I felt like getting up at 3am, he was happy to have me. What a great experience listening to the maneuvering calls, etc that took place. Clearly long before other world events changed bridge visits forever. So sorry to hear this.
  2. Hi @CHEZMARYLOU !!! 😉 Not the least bit surprised to find you over here. I guess we're all thinking the same thing!
  3. Sadly, I prefer not to go into further detail here, due to the naysayers, etc... It's ok with me if others (not saying you, particularly) don't trust my opinion because I won't go into detail. There are plenty of other accounts mirroring what we encountered, and plenty of other people stating they are moving on from Celebrity for similar reasons to ours. It's also ok if Celebrity doesn't care to have us back, or won't notice we are not there. When the loyalty we have given is no longer returned, we know where we stand.
  4. July 16th to Alaska. I had really enjoyed reading your "Live from…" with such anticipation for our cruise. It was apparent you had such an incredible time, it was hard to imagine ours would be anything but… But it was. The CD had changed to Rich Clesen by the time we were on board. He didn't make or break the cruise by any means. But the entertainment was mostly quite enjoyable. And we never ate in Blu. For personal reasons, I am choosing to leave it at that. I am sure you understand that I don't need further critique of my critique from others. I am glad you enjoyed your cruises. I sure wish we had travelled with you!
  5. Six months ago, I would have agreed with you. The occasional repeated complaint about this or that, and then the responses from others on the same cruise who didn’t experience what was being reported. Celebrity has always had its “cheerleaders” on this forum. Heck, I was certainly one of them. But you cannot deny the shift in the pattern of responses, even in this particular thread. No longer are people wholly disagreeing with the substance of what the op asked. In fact, most seem to agree. And they are providing quantifiable reasons for their new opinion of Celebrity these days. As for being representative of the cruising population... No, of course not! But I am going out on a limb to say it's more so than we believe when it comes to what's right or wrong on board. Without giving Cruise Critic any unnecessary kudos, it is probably the top place where knowledgeable cruising folks turn to discuss matters. So, when things go awry, it gets reported here. It gets discussed here. It gets debated here. We were disgruntled by some of the new changes or ways they have handled things in just the past few months. We had hoped that our cruise on Eclipse would remind us why we liked Celebrity so much, and would make us feel more comfortable with them again. It did anything but. So this once-faithful Elite+ Celebrity cheerleader is looking elsewhere to spend his vacation time & money.
  6. I regularly enjoy your posts. However, you’re missing the mark on this one. I have no desire to read, decipher or debate what the contract says they are entitled to get away with once we have paid. It is always appreciated to have an alternate opinion shared here. But pointing out that our contracts essentially say that we are “sadly” out of luck, is anything but comforting. The point is that many long time Celebrity loyalists book and pay in good faith expecting to receive what the website & advertising describes, and in all reality, what we have become accustomed to. It’s called expectations. And while Celebrity can apparently do whatever they want to those expectations, contract-wise, those same loyal customers are upset that Celebrity is not upholding their part of the bargain that we believe we are due. And they are doing so at the expense of said loyal passengers. While I’d like to say I’ll be sharing a table with @zitsky, I likely won’t be anywhere near a Celebrity ship anytime soon.
  7. In a word, NO... It sure doesn't appear as if she does! It's not ALL about the changes affecting loyal customers, but too many things in the recent course of X events have turned us away from Celebrity, our once favored cruise line. A horribly disappointing recent experience on Eclipse didn't help! As I have said, and will likely say many times before this subsides, she is making "how to kill a cruise line" moves.
  8. I believe this is another in a line of "kill a cruise line" moves that the new CEO has planned... Make the "standard" food so (insert the inappropriate word), that passengers dine in the specialty restaurants, therefore spending more.
  9. Just off of Eclipse in Alaska last week. We ate in Luminae only twice, choosing specialty restaurants the rest of the week. Even with "cherry picking" BOTH menus, the options were extremely disappointing. We had been on Beyond in December, and feel the food has taken a steep nosedive in those 7 months. BTW, the quality of the food in Tuscan Grille sucked (to put it as politely as possible) even worse than Luminae or the MDR. We canceled our planned second night there. Murano, Sushi, and Le Petit Chef shined...
  10. Thanks for your suggestion, but check your math… OP posted June 17th that he was boarding “tomorrow” which would be the 18th of June. Cruise returned June 25th. That’s two-plus weeks before my post.
  11. @kwagmyre Really kind of frustrating to have someone whine and complain about the posts here on CC, look for assurances, or otherwise, from the fine folks here, and then not even have the courtesy to return and post ANY thoughts or comments, good, bad, or indifferent...
