  1. Edge operates in the same way with the same hours as the other Celebrity ships do; 0ceanview is not a 24/7 operation in terms of food but coffee/tea is available between 1:00 AM when food service ends and 6:00 AM when light breakfast opens.

If you must have something during the five shutdown hours, it is room service (with delivery fee from 11:00 PM and 6:00 AM if not occupying a suite) or a snack that you have brought back to your room during operating hours...

You might consider bringing a supply of non-perishable snacks from home or that you pick up prior to embarkation; some do...

  2. I live locally...

Unless there is more than one Celebrity ship docked at Fort Lauderdale/Port Everglades on the day you embark , it is likely that Equinox will be at Terminal 25...  If there is more than one Celebrity ship at the port that day, Equinox may be at a different but nearby terminal [with 26 or 29 the most likely possibilities]...  Terminal assignments are very clearly posted at the port security entrances but are also available online at the Port Everglades website--with accuracy; before that terminal assignments are best estimates/can and do change--a week before you sail...

All of the major car rental agencies have a significant presence at Hollywood/Fort Lauderdale International Airport which is located just a very few miles/minutes from the port...  That said, you will need to take a taxi between the airport car rental facility [one large parking deck serves all of the major companies] and your cruise terminal...

Security at Port Everglades is very strict as it serves as the depot for distribution of petroleum/fuel products from Key West to the Orlando area...  Be prepared to show your Xpress Pass or cruise reservation--perhaps along with your Passport--as your driver passes through one of the security kiosks to gain entry into the port area

Thank you for all the insight !!!!! We are looking to move to a more relaxing atmosphere and better service.

Can elites use the suite only area on the top deck while in port?

Sorry, but no...  With minor exception--Zenith level Captain's Club members have full access to The Retreat Lounge [Michael's Club] regardless of stateroom category but not to the suite sundeck or to Luminae unless occupying a suite--loyalty does not provide access to the "suites only" amenities at any time...

  5. Though not directly related to the Original Poster's inquiries with respect to post-revolution Equinox, it may be worth noting here that the loyalty-based benefit {for Elite, Elite +, Zenith Captain's Club members] which provides one time access/cruise to the Persian Gardens while the ship is in port is not offered at the roughly comparable but enhanced SEA Thermal Suites aboard Edge...

Aqua Class guests on all ships continue to have unlimited access to the Persian Gardens or--with respect to Edge--the Thermal Suites...

  6. Assuming that you will attain Diamond status with Royal’s Crown & Anchor Society before you cruise Celebrity, you will be recognized as an Elite member of Captain’s Club...  Benefits are nicely outlined on Celebrity’s website...

You should call Captain’s Club with your C&A membership number to secure your Captain’s Club membership number and associate it with your X reservation ( some report it happens automatically—no call required—but results are inconsistent at times)...

All the CS on the M class have narrow balconies.  The living area is large and has a table that seats 4 for meals.  S class doesn’t have dining table inside.

The Celebrity Suites on Millennium-Class ships did not originally feature a balcony; they were added when those ships were “solsticized” starting in late 2011/early 2012...

  8. Specialty dining booked in advance requires prepayment either via credit card or onboard credit...  Suggest that you make the reservations for the two of you and that your friends do the same for themselves--same time/same venue--via Cruise Planner and that you see the Murano Maitre 'D to combine the reservations upon boarding...

I complained to cruise118 on our return stating that they should have been aware of the proximity of the staff quarters.

If not aware, Cruise Critic rules—you would have agreed to them when you registered as a user—prohibit specific references to travel agencies and/or travel agents...

I believe Celebrity discontinued the white X on the hump balconies after the Solstice--they received negative feedback on it.  I was just on the Solstice in a CC cabin on deck 12 on the aft slant of the hump.  There was no sign of an X on our balcony glass.  I've also sailed on the Equinox in a 1A aft slant off the hump and saw no sign of a white X.  Don't remember what deck I was on.

You are correct; Solstice is the only ship to have the “X”...

If you are in suites or above you can get an RFID pouch / wallet thingy you can put your card in (and if you want to stick it to your phone) so that you can keep your card from getting demagnetized.  I prefer the older leatherette wallets but the RFID ones were useful for DD who seemed to perpetually demagnetize her card by keeping it with her phone.  I solved the magnetic clasp in the handbag issue by using an ultra slim RFID folder inside the leatherette thingy -  you can get them from ebay for a couple of pence.

The RFID pouch to which you refer is--or perhaps now, was--provided to guests traveling in Concierge Class, AquaClass, and Suites...

Don't know if it's true fleet-wide but, having completed two cruises on Edge--a week in the Caribbean and the Transatlantic-- between March and May, I can report that Celebrity is again providing the leatherette wallets [same design but now gray] to guests traveling in Concierge Class, AquaClass, and Suites.

  12. My recall is that one must present his/her Sea Pass to a member of the Spa Reception Team--who will hold the card during usage--in order to access the Persian Gardens...  It is my understanding that Sea Pass cards issued to minors are coded to indicate such status--for a whole lot of reasons--and, if swiped, will also confirm status as a minor [don't know if birth date will pop up] along with his/her photo...

Don't know how rigorously the age restriction is enforced and/or if allowance is made if accompanied by an adult who is eligible for entry…  But I'm quite confident that physical appearance alone won't work...

  13. While results will vary depending upon when one purchased stock in Royal Caribbean [as parent of Celebrity Cruises] or Carnival Corporation or Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, the following is true in my case.

    • I purchased 100 shares of Royal Caribbean stock on 15 June 2009 at a cost of $13.1886/share for a total investment of ~ $1,319.  As of last Friday--17 May--that investment was valued at $12,488 for a market gain [exclusive of dividends I have received along the way] of $11, 169.
    • Had I instead purchased 100 shares of Carnival Corporation stock on 15 June 2009, my cost--based upon an average share price of $23.16 that day--would've equated to an investment of $2,316.   As of last Friday--17 May--that investment would have been valued at $5,368 for a market gain [exclusive of dividends I'd have received along the way] of $3,052.
    • Had I instead purchased 100 shares of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings on 19 January 2013--the first day the company went public/stock was issued after having previously been privately held--my cost--based upon an average share price of $24.16 that day--would have equated to an investment of $2,416.   As of last Friday--17 May--that investment would have been valued at $5,,692 for a market gain [NCLH stock does not pay a dividend] of $3,276.

While there is no doubt that I have qualified for far fewer Shareowner Onboard Credit Benefits in recent years--especially since Celebrity has embraced the practice of bundled cruise fare/perk pricing [like Jim, I get most perks based on loyalty status--including a Premium Alcohol Package, Unlimited Internet and more] on every cruise and--when I cruise with bundled pricing-- always select the included Onboard Credit/Prepaid Gratuities options without duplication. That said, I did receive a $250 Shareowner OBC on the Edge Transatlantic [Celebrity does not bundle cruise price with perks on repositioning cruises] that ended in Southampton last Monday.

Loyalty benefits aside, the run-up in Royal Caribbean's stock price over the past ten years sure could fund a whole lot of OBC despite Royal's practice of not stacking Onboard Credit from multiple corporate sources.  I too wish that I'd bought more Royal Caribbean stock back in June 2009.

  14. Electronic cruise documents are typically issued seven weeks [49 days] prior to embarkation date...  If you also purchased your flights through Air By Celebrity, issuance of your electronic cruise documents may be delayed by a week or two in order to capture the latest flight schedule changes [which is not to say that they might not change after issuance] that may have occurred since your initial flight purchase...

As you are seemingly in the United States [also true for those in Canada], you will have the option of ordering luggage tags for mailing to your home...  The link to do so should be apparent when you complete online check-in; if not, call Captain's Club to order them...

  15. Following is a link to a seventeen minute video that Celebrity released during February when they first announced their culinary partnership with highly acclaimed Chef Daniel Boulud.  After opening with a minute of written text, you'll find commentary from Lisa Lutoff-Perlo [Celebrity's President & CEO], Cornelius Gallagher [Celebrity's Associate Vice President Of Food & Beverage Operations], and Daniel Boulud himself relative to the collaboration [followed by a video tour of his signature restaurant, Daniel, in New York City] .

    https://www.celebritycruisespresscenter.com/video/133/chef-daniel-boulud-partnership-epk/

In addition, following is a link to Boulud's very impressive bio as published on Wikipedia.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Boulud

I've been privileged to have dined at both Daniel and the less formal Boulud Sud in New York City.  Start to finish and from every perspective, the experiences were impeccable and I look forward to dining at the new Chef's Table while aboard a future Celebrity cruise [it was not yet offered when I sailed on Edge in March and again on the Transatlantic that concluded in Southampton on Monday of this week].

If you're a foodie, this new offering--it's just starting to roll out--might well prove to be a real treat.  On the Solstice-Class ships, I suspect it will be staged in the Wine Cellar at Murano with a totally different menu.

Just curious as to one might miss the helipad?  Unless you have had to use the helipad I do not understand why it would impact one's cruise.

By invitation (sometimes to Cruise Critic Roll Call members, sometimes for new X cruisers, sometimes for higher level members of the Captain’s Club loyalty program, sometimes based upon level of accommodation though not necessarily  limited to suite guests, and sometimes for no apparent reason) and at the discretion of the Captain, Celebrity has often hosted sail-away and—less often—sail-in events on the helipads (occasionally more than once per cruise for a variety of non-repetitive guests) of Millennium-Class and Solstice-Class ships at particularly scenic ports when weather is favorable...

Surely not a necessity but a nice gesture affording great views from a very different perspective...  For  me, most memorable were sunset sail-aways from Venice, Sydney, Honolulu, San Francisco snd Stockholm...

Note: The EDGE outlet in our AQ Class bathroom was   very low down so we could not  use it for our  toothbrush charger unit,  The  cord was not long enough for placement on the vanity top..  We had to keep it in the main desk area. The hairdryer we use has a  much longer cord and  worked fine there.

In my Edge staterooms, the bathroom outlet was located one shelf down from the sink top and worked perfectly in terms of accessing my rechargeable Sonicare from the charging base...

I can understand why Celebrity didn't locate the outlet at sink counter level given the possibility of water on that surface...

Woke up thismorning to see Celebrity Edge moored in the Solent, waiting for her berth at Southampton.

    What's with the bow?????

Looks like a WW1 battleship, the bow is vertical (in fact, it's actually furthest forward at the water-line) instead of a graceful flare.

Sorry, but IMHO seriously ugly. :classic_wacko:

    Fullscreen-capture-14052019-092430-696x492.jpg

According to the web, that bow is more economical on fuel and less strain on the structure.

I'll take the experts' word for that, but it beggars the question why it's taken more than half-a-century to realise that the flare and bulbous underwater bow on every other cruise ship is poorer than the vertical knife-edge bow of a hundred years ago.

I disembarked Edge's Transatlantic yesterday morning in Southampton after having also spent a week aboard in the Caribbean during March...

    http://www.rclcorporate.com/celebrity-edges-eye-pleasing-bow-goes-back-to-the-future/

While I'm not sure I would necessarily agree with Royal Caribbean's assessment that Edge's bow shape is eye-pleasing [and miss the helipad of her Celebrity sisters], it does--in combination with new technologies [among them, a system that generates a "carpet" of drag-reducing microbubbles]--create an consistently smooth ride through frequent high winds/periodic high seas...  Captain Costas indicated that Edge is proving to be extremely fuel efficient.

A fire boat--with water cannons creating quite a fountain effect--provided an escort into Southampton port early yesterday morning to welcome Edge to The UK for the first time...  It was quite a memorable experience; many thanks!
