So the original plan was to go to lunch at Skagway Brewing Company. Unfortunately, due to the change in Shore Excursion time, it was off to the Garden Cafe instead. We would have eaten in the MDR, but the MDR was closed while in port. Once we finished, we grabbed what we needed for our excursion and headed to the train which was parked shipside. That is the one benefit to booking the White Pass through the ship is you can catch it next to the ship instead of heading downtown to catch the train. Starting up the rails along the Skagway River We were seated in the car with Parker, who was doing the commentary for the entire train. The nice thing about that is once he did the generic train commentary, he would elaborate more for the people in our car. Bonus! Susan enjoying the start of our train ride up ad back down! Believe it or not, this is our 4th time on the White Pass, and the first time we have done the summit excursion train and gone up White pass aboard the train. We have always driven up the pass and ridden the train back down. At Denver, we were allowed to go out on the platforms if we so desired. Crossing the East Fork Skagway River These were not as clear as I would have like them to be. Too much motion. You can see the ships way down there in Skagway. Alaska Highway 98 - The Klondike Highway climbing out of Skagway up White Pass. The creek is really far down there That one is a bit better!

After the Museum, it was about time for the early early trains to return to Skagway, so I headed over to Skagway Junction. Susan capturing another of me! This one I am going to submit to the 2023 WP&YRR Photo Contest Train reversing out of the main depot and heading for the railroad dock switcher coming back out - its all decked out for 4th of July tomorrow

We headed over by the main depot of the White Pass & Yukon Route The depot is next door to the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park. It had been a few years since we were here last (2019 for me; 2018 for Susan). Interesting fact: Someone walked the Chilkoot trail with a google camera and did a Google Street view map of the entire trail. Street view map of Skagway - Check it out on Google if your interested. Its pretty cool.

Being a railfan, I set up my camera gear next to the railroad tracks at the trailhead. I wanted to catch the morning trains departing Skagway. 3001 rounds the corner leading the first train from the Ore Dock. You can see the tripod. There was someone else set up filming the train as well. Susan got this one of me as the train was going by!

Juneau City Hall I found this interesting See the little white dot above the middle snow patch, that is a mountain goat. The totems lining the waterfront are really cool. The City has done a great job incorporating them into the waterfront area. They have a map in boardwalk. You can see I am standing above Washington. The outline is done with nails. This is a great picture of the statue of Seward in front of the State Capitol Building. After our wanderings, we headed down by the float plane docks to the Alaska Fish & Chips Company. Susan got the Smoked Salmon Chowder Bowl Halibut Fish & Chips for me! another view of the salmon chowder Enjoying my Halibut Fish & Chips!

Back to Juneau! Port Photo! Norwegian Sun at the South Franklin Dock Juneau has really nice maps showing the different parts of town. The Norwegian Spirit has completed its visit to Juneau and is on its way out. Goodbye Norwegian Spirit. Memorial to the USS Juneau along Juneau's waterfront We made our way past the Goldbelt Tram aka "Mt. Roberts Tram." Just like the paper we received onboard, they were closed for the day. Alaska Shirt Company - one of my favorite stops in Juneau. I picked up presents for my coworkers here! Posing next to the Shirt Company bear This is my favorite and tastiest stop in Juneau! PS - you can order their fudge online and they will ship it to you! One of our other favorite local shops we always stop in. The word on street of Juneau is that if Juneau loses much more population, that the State Capital might get moved to Anchorage. We meandered up to the State Capitol Building, which was closed due to being a Sunday. pano shot Juneau city museum

At breakfast, on Juneau day, we saw the Restaurant Manager come into the MDR. We talked to her about our experiences the first MDR lunch, the night at La Cucina, and especially last night at Moderno. we were polite in explaining what we experienced and expected she would check in with us throughout the cruise when we were checked into a dining venue. Unfortunately, she never checked in with us the rest of the cruise. if she is on in December, when we sail the Sun again, I am going over her head, if we have a problem, because it is obvious she is part of the service problem.

Susan decided to get an ice cream while waiting. So in the freestyle daily it says not to feed the Seagulls, obviously the ravens are not following that messaging as they are worse than the Seagulls in Juneau. Its finally time to head down to disembark. We get down to deck 5 and there is a line. While in line, I am able to get pictures of tonight's MDR menu. We are eating in town, so we will not be on the ship for this dinner. Off to Juneau we go! ---- Please note: While I will make every effort to work on this over the weekend, I have to can salsa. I for sure will pick it up on Monday if not before.
