It was awesome. We had perfect weather and we had superb seats. The only drawback was the very long tender ride. There is no place to dock anywhere because of shallow water and the shallows go out a very long way. So the tender ride was more than 40 minutes. After the Tattoo, some people did not get back on the ship until after 1:00 am. Waited in line for the tenders from 11:30 on.

    Jim

Jim, Thanks for the information. I love Edinburgh, and the Tattoo is definitely on my list. I hope to take that cruise sometime soon. Are you saying it no longer includes Guernsey? That's also on my list.

How many cans of soda would this include?

It is a one-for-one swap. You can exchange anything for anything, except, you may not have more than the eight bottles of liquor. You can even get some things not in the "original package' (Wheel of Fortune fans?) We like to get some ginger ale, and additional water, etc.

We’re also library fans - also like the dedicated space where we can donate books purchased for the trip and snagging something someone else left for the book exchange.  That’s one of the features we value on the Coral, and are looking forward.to checking out the Pacific Princess in May.  Looks like our cruise on the Sky in Novembermeans we’re carrying extra weight for books which I’ll just leave in the cabin when we debarked.   Grrrr

We will miss the library as well. But don't leave your books in the cabin. Leave them about somewhere where another passenger might pick on up.

I will be elite on our next cruise and was wondering about having afternoon tea in the cabin.  Can I put in a request for this any day or just certain days?  Will be on the Sky in 26 days🛳.  So ready for our cruise, some sun, and relaxation!!

I enjoy the Tea.  Never had it in the cabin; maybe next cruise (in 37 days). Don't forget to order some scones. They are wonderful.

We haven’t been on the Ruby for about13 months, but at that time.

    1) the ship floated

    2) there was some rust

    3) at least one window was fogged

    4) there were a few carpet stains

    5) some crew weren’t 100% Jolly

    6) the elite laundry took more than a day

    7) the buffet coffee sucked

8). some food was good, some wasn’t

All-in-all, a good time was had by all (except that guy with the fogged window.) And I'll bet there was painting going on to make it look pretty.

Yes, that would be the Lion's Gate Bridge, which isn't quite as spectacular as sailing under SF's Golden Gate Bridge, but still a great way to start a cruise.  We have done several Alaskan cruises:  from San Francisco most recently and from Vancouver twice.  On the one from SF, we did NOT go between Vancouver Island and the mainland, so that may be the case when sailing from LA as well.  Cruises leaving from Vancouver (and probably Seattle) may go between Vancouver Island and the mainland.  However, I believe the term "Inside Passage" refers to the area between the Alaskan mainland and various islands, from the port of Ketchikan to the port of Skagway.  BTW, the city of Vancouver BC is NOT on Vancouver Island, but is on the BC mainland.

Enjoy your first cruise to Alaska!

Strangely however, Victoria BC IS on Vancouver Island, while Victoria Island is in the arctic north.

  7. Going to Anchorage on the b2b is not a big deal. You probably won't even get into Anchorage during the turn around. A one-way, Vancouver to Anchorage, with a cruisetour to Denali would be ideal. Then you fly back from Anchorage. But that may bust your budget. I suggest you check it out to see another option.

Having said that, we loved Sitka and for some reason only managed to get there once. Been trying to get back again ever since.

That's because so few cruises go to Sitka. We've been on three Alaska cruises, and have never been to Sitka, but it is on my list.

We were on the Regal Dec. 1 and they gave out a list of dining options that did not include the MDR.  As a seasoned Princess cruiser, we knew which dining room would be open, but a new cruiser would have had no idea.

I'm seasoned, but I don't know which is open. I check the Patter to get that information.

This is rather important info, so please elaborate. None of the many pre-Medallion cruise cards I have show our cabin number, only our name, muster station, portfolio # etc. I'm curious as to how someone finding such a card can find out your cabin number? The Medallions we have also do not show cabin #s, so without accessing the TV screens to show the cabin #, how would one access this info?

Remember the names posted next to each door?

No Tom, they will NOT know where I ate, unless I go to a specialty restaurant. They won't know what I bought because the only things I buy on shipboard are things I pay cash for; no crummy art or over-priced jewelry.

Exactly where, and on which Princess ship, and how recently, did you buy ANYthing with cash?

Consider this, it's not much different than going to Amazon/Walmart/insert merchant store here, coming to this site, or any other website really.  It's the same thing.

What we need to do as consumers is get smarter.  We know this tracking will occur, either on internet, or on our phones, or this device.   We learn to say no, or don't click on the ads that are targeted to you.

For me, I am looking forward to the technology, providing it gets me what I want/need better.  It's here, and that technology (like car fobs, smart watches, smart phones) will continue to adapt and improve in in the future.

We got a rental car with one of those fobs, at 1AM in Nova Scotia. We had no idea how to do anything. Luckily there was a manual in the glove box.

I'm sorry Ms. Know-it-All, I have sailed on 4 Medallion class ships so far. You make a lot of assumptions.

When I walked up to the display screen, I don't think it shows me what cabin I am in. It just shows you where you currently are.

We often see those directories in Malls and such that say "You are here." How does it know?

When you rebooked, were you able to keep your seat assignments? Mr wife has long legs and pretty much needs an aisle seat. Thanks!

I always get an aisle seat. I like to have the freedom to get up when I want or need to. I keep my legs out of the aisle, but I am often bumped in the knee or shoulder, especially by the beverage/food cart.
