As Pia said, the "blue" in the Black and Blue French Onion Soup is bleu cheese. The "black" is Johnnie Walker Black Label. It tastes like very good onion soup!

    ~sent using Cruise Critic app~

It IS a very good onion soup. Delicious!

  2. Two years ago, we used EZAir in conjunction with Athens-Barcelona 14-nights on Majestic. We flew from home (Alabama) to Rome, spent 3 days, then Rome to Athens, w/transfer to ship. After a two-night stay in Barcelona, we flew to Dublin, spent six days in Ireland, then flew Dublin - home. (We booked the BCL-DUB on our own, as it was cheaper.) If I recall correctly, the EZAir fare was less than $700 each.

We have had every elite perk  that is advertised on all of our one nighters.  Could you please explain which perk you did not recieve?   We've don several one nighter's and never missed out on the elite perks.

    Thank you.

I suspect you wouldn't get laundry, or preference for tendering. Do you get the minibar setup? The value of that might be equal to or greater than the cruise fare. Nor for me, though. We're not drinkers. Just the occasional beer.

After booking with EZair I go to the webpage of either AA or UA and have them add it to my upcoming travel.  That way they contact me when there is a change in times or aircraft.  I also select my seats on their website rather than on EZair.   All I use the EZair webpage is to book the initial flight and then rely totally on the AA/UA webpage and notifications. It has all worked out well so far.

I do the same with Delta. I always select the Delta flights because our Amex card gives us free checked bags and mileage.

That's fine except you now have to go back & get the other items from the buffet line otherwise they'll be cold when you receive your omelet.

You might as well wait there.

As you say....you can specify what items you like & as much in it as you please.

Oh, I pick up all my items on the same trip as I order the omelet. They bring my omelet while I'm eating the other stuff.

Thank you for the info on the chapel. We are Christians and we like to visit with Him in a quiet setting more or less reserved for such things.

There's always a non-denominational service on Sunday AM, led by a passenger, who may be a pastor. They have a song sheet provided. Strangely, on the Princess Pacific on Christmas Day (which fell on Sunday two-three years ago) the only items furnished (song sheets, etc) were for a generic Sunday. No recognition of Christmas. I meant to call attention in my review, but somehow forgot.

I don't drink soda, so the freestyle machines have no meaning to me. I

On the machines I've seen in fast food outlets, there is a selection for water. At Dair Queen they give you a small cup to use for water, on request.

All ships do the omelets, but I hate that they don't let you wait (and crowd the area-I get it) because by the time I have gotten served the eggs are cold, or they were under the lamp waiting for so long they are way overcooked.  I always try at least once per cruise and I'm usually disappointed I wasted my time. I hope your experience is better.

I prefer going to a table and having a server retrieve my omelet. I don't want to be standing there at the station waiting for the cook to get to my order. YMMV.

Alternative is to stay at one of the airport hotels, cheaper, and most have shuttles to/from the airport.  You can either taxi or Lyft/Uber to the cruise terminal.   If Princess has a shuttle, you can take the hotel shuttle back to the airport.

How much should we expect to pay Lyft/Uber for SFO to cruise terminal?

Since your time in the City is limited I would suggest staying out by the airport and then just UBER to the port in the morning.   We like the Embassy Suites at 150 Anza Blvd.  They have a shuttle that will pick you up at the airport.  They have a great bar/restaurant with views of the SFO flight path.

You will usually find prices out by the airport cheaper than in town.

Thank you. I've reached the same conclusion. We have been to the city before, so it's not like a bucket list thing. I will check out the Embassy Suites. We've had good experiences with ES in other locations.

Just a short note to bump us up to the first page. There are 4 of us going to SF and we'll be there for 3 days before the cruise. What kind of weather can we expect. We'll be arriving Jan 21st.

Are you going to Hawaii on the Grand with us?

On Harmony and Symphony you are limited to family cabins and suites that command a premium.  Depending on what time of year you are travelling the Kids Sail Free that they run fairly often could help with the price.

You could consider Oasis or Allure  (Oasis will be fresh out of a huge drydock this fall)  as both of those ships have a fair number of regular cabins that do hold 5.  They have a sofabed as well as a Pullman.  You still must call Royal to book these as you can’t book any cabin for more than 4 on the website.  On the deckplans  look for cabins that have a solid black diamond as the symbol in the room.

This is for October, 2020. Hoping for KSF, but want to book now for best selection.

It is a nice techy-oriented production show on Ovation in the TwoSeventy theater area on the back of the ship.

While we have seen other shows on various cruises, it was perhaps a "7" out of 10 for our taste, and worth attending.

Thank you. It sounds interesting. Maybe we'should try it.

  14. I've heard, "You need to make advance reservations for Pixels" (on Ovation.) What exactly is Pixels? I gather it's some kind of show, with a lot of technological "whiz-bang." Does that mean it is loud, with a lot of things like strobe lighting? My wife and I are of an older generation. That doesn't seem to be something we would really enjoy. Can someone help me here?

I was thinking the same, but who am I to question Tom... I assume he is way smarter than I am based on what he has accomplished.  Now, I wish I was on your sailing to see his face on the first day heading from Maui towards Vancouver....  Maybe because he started his sailing in Sydney and visited Tahiti it doesn’t apply to him???

    jc

I believe that is the answer. His trip is Sydney to Maui. Honolulu is just a way-station for Tom.
