  1. Paul I have to say I agree with you..I have spent almost 400 days on Oceania since 2003 an I dont ever remember

some of the things Dr Hugs does..never games at the pool or elsewhere..everyone on CC knows O,s weak point is entertainment and what would be the reason for the CD to be in touch with Dr Hugs??

Each CD makes up his own schedule and plans the things pax do ..so every cruise is different..

I for one do not think much has changed over the years (except the food has gotten better) and I talk to Bob Binder several times a week ..I know O is always striving to be better and keep up with the times and try new ideas..some good, some not so good..I look forward to my trip on RVA Feb 26 and know I will have a great time..even planning my own days at sea with knitting and mah Jong..

I have made such good friends over the years which is the best of it..

Happy sailing on whatever cruise line you choose..

How do I talk to Bob Binder?

  2. We were on Sirena Rome to Venice last September. There were problems with availability of wine. No chianti by the glass on the last night, for example. Some of the people who got the wine package were upset that the bottles they ordered were unavailable. We never ran into that problem when we ordered bottles from the menu.

We had no lemons for 6 days, yet we stopped at islands that had some beauties!!

  3. Yup. Be nice if they told the truth once in a while.

Exactly.I agree. We were told originally when the changes started happening, that it was because we had just left Easter Island and they didn’t want any ‘bugs’.That was 24hrs AFTER we left.

I have never said it was norovirus as it was never confirmed.

Having restrictions for 48 hours is what other cruise ships do anyway!

We are thinking of writing to someone (not sure who,any ideas.?) regards the lack of info etc and also the launderette being closed but casino open.We had alot of rain and were soaked through on a number of occasions with nowhere to dry anything. The staff were told to remove any clothes left on balconies to dry.We had no line in our bathroom.

  4. Jane

There you are again with exactly the advice I'm looking for... When you booked the Raiatea tour did you seek out Tyrone or was he a vendor on shore as you got off the Marina? Was there a Tourist information booth? Didn't totally understand your "fir 9.30" comment.

Did you pay in USD or CFP? During the port tours is there any need for CFP?

This sounds exactly like the type of activity we are looking for.

Thanks again.... We will have many more questions since we are Feb 25th same tour Feb 25th.

Hi.If you walk straight off the ship, right in front of you is tourist information,Go in and ask for Tyrone who does river cruises.

I meant ‘for’ 9.30am start.sorry.He also does one in the afternoon, but generally that’s when the weather is most rainiest.

    We paid in dollars.

All the islands we went to took dollars.

I am intermittent on internet and we fly to LA this evening.I will be happy to help.

Hope you keep well.Even if you don’t get the gastro virus,it is still very miserable.

  5. Yes ORV the experience has worn us down.

Their handling and lack of information is inexcusable.

Just got talking to a matre de from one of the specialist restaurants. He handed in his notice just before we embarked. He was booking a flight home even though he has not finished his notice. He was not allowed to leave today but has.He left because he is appalled at the hygiene. He said the last 10 days that we have suffered, they have just put on a show.It has not been appropriately done.I can say I believe him

Today,we were the last ones to leave Terrace. The manager came out and told the staff to put all clean cutlery and crockery in the cupboards as the restaurant was being sanitised. We watched the same staff who took away all the dirty cutlery and crockery, not wash their hands but pick up the clean stuff, presumably to be used for the next cruise.Heaven help the next cruise...

  6. Yesterday in Raiatea,we just walked off the ship at 8,45 and booked a tour with Tyrone in the tourist information fir 9.30.It was $50 each to cruise up the river then he took us to one of the two stunning islands that we passed as we sailed in.We stayed there for hour and half.It was stunning. He will also take you to a pearl farm at 3.30pm for $30 instead of his usual $40 if you have done the river cruise. The boat he uses is plenty big enough. You may pass the folk who have booked for hundreds of dollars, looking miserable and packed in like sardines.

Great chap with tons of info.

Shops close at 5pm.All easy walkable from ship that is not a tender.

  7. I never thought about compensation and probably wouldn’t ask for it.

I’m not sure we would do Oceania again, the way things have been handled.Last night we got back to our suite and all the books and information folders are wrapped in white bin bags, dumped in our lounge.Today we have all our glasses removed..

Our suite hasn’t been hoovered for at least 3 days.

I may do a review on cruise critic and included in that will be my utter shock of infection control in the medical centre.

  8. Cruiser Jane, you are exactly right.

I was told by a trustworthy member of the crew, that Saturdays embarkation will not before 4 or 5 at the very earliest.Everything has to be removed from everywhere, totally gutting the ship ready for sanitising,Every statreoom has to be completely emptied of everything. Those staying on have to pack up as if leaving for good.

I am glad to be getting off now.Everyday we return the cabin to find something taken away and housekeeping has deteriorated (probably because they are busy).

  9. My husband and I are well, thank you all for your wishes.

Yesterday they ran out of bottled water, replaced later that day and we haven’t had fresh lemons for a while.

Today we returned to cabin to find silver trays removed and baskets from the bathroom.

If this ship isnt clean for you all when you embark,I will be very upset.

I am observing staff in some bars, using their whole hand to put small straws in drinks.Yuk!

The wi fi is ok and once connected,it is a bit slow but works ok.I can FaceTime my children ok.

  10. The restaurants and tenders are all being steam/chemically cleaned.

Suddenly all the waters by the disembarkation platform are covered. You are not allowed to take one yourself. Also tender tickets are now disposable (that caught out a few selfish people who store them up and use them to get early tenders)!

Not sure why they have left this so long, surely if they are following any code of practice for this,it should have been brought in earlier...

Disappointed yesterday to be given a dirty glass,a teacup with a dried rim of coffee inside, milk jug that clearly had old milk on,all curdled and a tablecloth that was only fit for polishing the floor!

I do try had see things positive but it’s wearing thin now..

Still we have continual, non cleaning use of umbrellas, slot machines and outdoor games.Just don’t understand it..

Things are slacking as time goes on and the staff are obviously miserable. Its good to be able to leave the ship daytime...

  11. Yesterday we were notified that the incidence of ‘gastric’ problems had reduced ‘drastically’.We cannot see us getting back to normal before we disembark as the deep clean will follow in Papeete. The dining rooms, public rooms and tenders are already being ‘fumigated’ as we call it.Sprayed with some chemicals and steam cleaned.

All outside gams still being used.Golf, ping pong, tennis and croquet. No one is cleaning them after use...

Anyone embarking in Papeete, please bear with them.It is so much better to get on late than to go through this..

Meanwhile life goes on and we have had two beautiful days in Fakarava and Rangiroa...Today is Bora Bora.

  12. Absolutely correct about casino open but no trivia.Still got Bingo.Culinary classes stopped.

I don’t see any hand washing stations in Terrace for staff. So they bring me my teapot, touch the same handle. They pick it up and so on and so on.

Just told gastrointestinal problem.I guess they are unable to test certain body fluids to check what the virus is.

It doesnt matter really as the procedure is the same for any gastric virus in this situation.

Today each tender was ‘santised’ after passengers lefpeft before anyone embarked..

What is annoying me as this was foreseen. We complained about passengers lack of hand washing, use of sanitisers etc.when we arrived.

The gym still is open and the dumbbells are used by anyone. Not cleaned.

I have stopped using the gym, pool too.Never used the jacuzzi.

  13. Thanks.

The main problem for us is the running out of some wines!,Although difficult on board and not quite ‘Oceania’,we know it’s for the best for us all on board and the next sailing.

We have a great cabin and so we can enjoy our time in that with hot breakfast delivery and specialist restaurants dining in cabin when we want..

Some people have had chest infections and maybe they are the IV antibiotic lot.

Haven’t see the cruise director for a few days!!

  14. When this situation comes up, is there any competition because of venues closed?

Sent from my SM-G900V using Forums mobile app

Have not seen this yet.Everyone getting fed and all restaurants open.Terrace restaurant has someone on duty to check people use sanitiser, but we haven’t noticed the others.

There are a lot of ‘coughers’ on board too.Saw a lady today cough up into her serviette on the Terrace and then lay the serviette flat on the table.Server will inevitably pick it up and then handle something like teapots.

All milk jugs and placemats removes from Terrace.

Passengers seem to be overall very patient and the staff work very hard.

Casino still open and so is sports deck with golf clubs and tennis rackets! Still no Trivia..

Have not heard of any new cases today but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any.

    Running out of some wines😱

  15. RJB

I am unable to reply quickly due to internet. But no one has mentioned Noro virus on Marina.Gastrointerstinal problems is what we are told.Sorry I can’t be more specific! But I do know there is different symptoms in different passengers. Some confined to cabins only and some on intravenous antibiotics.Staff too.

  16. All restaurants are open.Terrace is same as usual with sanitation restrictions and paper condiments etc.

Grand dining room is open but last night was our first experience in there in the evening.

When you sit down, the table is totally empty.Cutlery delivered rolled in serviette. Then water glasses appear.Paper menus,no bread basket, packet butter and you are not allowed to do your own salt and pepper.

The food is still excellent but the ambience is gone.

    Privee still open too.

All public toilets have main door left open.

Lifts have all exterior and interior knobs covered in sheet of plastic.Concierge and executive lounges sealed off.

No trivia but bingo still on.

    We are ok with it.

I do have issues with germs James,as I’m a trained nurse, trained in cross infection and I worry for the frail, elderly and disabled. And that was before this outbreak.

  17. Sorry to hear about all of this. Sure does not make the present cruise any fun. Hope this clears up quickly. :(:(:(

    Thanks.

I do find it unbelievable that we cannot use a washing machine yet the casino is still open! All the machines are in use and all the tables are in use...

It is miserable eating in the evening. All the wonderful dining experience of Oceania gone,Just a cafe style set up.:(

  18. We are in South Pacific.Just left Pitcairn island.Strangely islanders were brought onto ship and had their wares to sell, touched by everyone over and over again.

Total shutdown now for at least 5 days.We are on sea days at the moment. Waves is shut,Barristas is takeaway only.Dinners with staff cancelled, lounges emptied of food, drink, menus etc.Not sure about afternoon tea.

  19. Level 2 here now.No Trivia, card, board games etc.No main computer use.Executive lounge and concierge lounge closed for any snacks or hot drinks. No tables set at any restaurants until you are seated.Suddenly two sanitizer dispensers at every entrance.People confined to cabins, even if one is sick.Im not worried it’s good to be careful at last.

  20. Jane

Thank you for taking the time to let us know how hard the Marina crew worked to get everyone ashore. We are going January 2019 to Easter Island on the Marina and I am so looking forward to this being there.

    Thanks again.

We had people with canes,a wheelchair, leg cast and a mobility stroller who they managed to get on.There was talk that the first day,any other stop and they may not have gone ahead.

If you do private tours, there is a charge of $80 per person to gain entry to all the park and all the sites.Oceania includes it in their prices.

Really hope you make it too.Its amazing.
