  1. After a bit of confrontation from our travel agent, star clippers have given us a refund....I don't think we could have done it on our own as they were very difficult to communicate with.

  2. When we booked our trip,we had €700 OBC.We had a letter from clipper cruises to confirm it. no mention of what it could be used on.We asked on arrival and was told, everything.Other passengers the same.We wanted to keep a check on spending but they would not give us an ongoing bill. When the final bill came we were made to pay for all the tours as extras. The purser said we could only use it on bar and shop.We again asked at the reception and she said 'anything'.We rang clipper cruises once home and they said,to be used on TOURS only.!!!

Having contacted star clippers via email to complain, they have just apologised.

Should we take this further to get reimbursed our €300...?

I know there are other passengers in the same predicament.

  3. I am shocked to hear there was a dive around Martinique.my husband is actually in contact wih clipper about the dive master no longer being onboard so unless we booked privately,4 days into our trip,he couldn't dive.

Tanya just gave him a bunch of phone numbers and told him to do it himself...

  4. Forgot to add that you must check in the Port Booklet very carefully what you want to do as the ship anchors up in different ports for different tours depending on windward or leeward island trips.

We and a few others signed up for the waterfall and rainforest walk, only to find it was only on the Grenadines itinerary and we went on the jeep doing a different scenic tour with no waterfall. Disappointed.

  5. We had options of the railway trip or jeep tour.

Mixed reviews on the train. The mature people enjoyed its slow pace and scenery. The young contingent really hated it.Saying it was just a slow trip through weeds!, But the majority of reports was very good.it is 2 hours long and very slow.if you want upstairs open air,get on quick!,

I cannot comment on the tours of the island as everyone I spoke to just walked or did the train...

    Jane.

  6. Couple of tips:

Take hair conditioner if you use it.

If you have OBC,ask for the amount and where it can be spent, in writing, as we had 3 different answers and have just started to try and get a refund.

Get a good watch, lots of clock watching for tenders and general daily meetings.

If you drink mojitos, make sure only Joey at the tropical bar makes them. The 2nd best mojito maker in the world.

    Any questions just ask.

You will have a great time.;)

  7. Just returned from a great royal clipper trip over Christmas..Included a race with star clipper for a couple of hours...

We stayed self catering for 4 nights in St Lawrence Gap prior to the trip.

We chose the beach day (tour)on disembarkation. It was good value but if you go on daypass.com for Barbados, you can do it ourself.Taxis are cheap to the beach clubs.little mini buses in Barbados are only $2 ( Barbadian) and great but not luxury..

We did both jeep tours on St.Lucia and Martinique. The jeep trip in Martinique is in a range rover and not a jeep. Its ok-ish.Wouldn't recommend.

The St.Lucia one was a bit better.Would do again.

Should have done river tubing in Dominica but was cancelled last minute ( too late for us to book something else) due to heavy rain and floods.

St.Kitts was unexpectedly dirty and everyone who went to the beach, came back quickly. Some of that was the problem of too many people on beach due to 2 large cruises ships arriving. Also there were men with monkeys in nappies( diapers) having photos taken with tourists.Quite distressing the way they were handled.

Iles de Saintes was by far the best drop off. As recommended go to other side of island, various beaches or walk to the fort.Great little friendly, warm island.

  8. Having just got back from the windward islands, I recommend you buy Internet per hour, not for 4 hours. if the connection goes down whilst you are on your computer, you cannot log out. When connection recommences, you are still logged in and will lose your time.

Also if you have OBC,get in writing what it can be spent on. A group of us are having trouble sorting this out.

The Grenadiines are one of our favourite places. enjoy...:)

  9. I would recommend not buying the 4 hour Internet connection.I used almost 2 hours of my 4 hours, mostly trying to log out at times, then one morning as I was using the Internet, the connection went down.I couldn't log out.I tried for ages to connect, giving up eventually.Unexpectedly and unknowingly I was reconnected, so my time ticked away, using up my 4 hours without me knowing.I had no comeback and could not get reimbursed. If they had told us this could happen, I would never have bought a straight 4 hour rate, but hourly as I needed it.

Also we had €700 OBC.We had a letter from clipper cruises to confirm it. no mention of what it could be used on.We asked on arrival and was told, everything.Other passengers the same.We wanted to keep a check on spending but they would not give us an ongoing bill. When the final bill came we were made to pay for all the tours as extras. The purser said we could only use it on bar and shop.We again asked at the reception and she said 'anything'.We rang clipper cruises once home and they said,to be used on TOURS only.!!!

    Trying to get reimbursed....

  10. We have just returned from this wonderful cruise.

We have had problems with the way the company manage to get money from you in various different ways, that has not been pointed out beforehand.

If anyone wants me to clarify I will let you know a few tips.

But we had a great time. Christmas Eve was celebrated with great elaboration and Christmas Day was just another day.

We did have a'race'with star clipper on Christmas Eve, for over an hour. That was very moving and good fun.

Food was superb, staff a little confused and not very organised.cabin was extremely clean and well looked after by our stewardess,Diana. The whole ship was immaculate.Capatin very informative and obviously had great pride in his ship.

Sports staff enjoyed themselves on the beach but worked hard getting equipment to and from the beach.

The tours were not very good and again I can describe them better if anyone wishes.

Would do another cruise with royal clipper.

  11. Hi

My husband and I are on this trip and pleased to see your post.

We have only been on a long journey to Antarctica on a Princess cruise,a 3 night Florida trip on Disney cruises and a gulet in Turkey. So another experience for us.

We too are wondering if there will be anything different, being Christmas

We are also keen to do our 'own thing' at ports of call and not organised tours if possible.all tips on this will be helpful.

Look forward to hearing from other passengers.

    Thank you.

  12. Just got back from the Antarctica and cabin E729.(STAR) We originally had A510 but the noise from above us (the constant scraping of chairs in the conservatory part of the 24hr buffet)drove us nuts. We kicked up a stink and got this room. It was brilliant. It is a bit noisy at times but we managed. It can be noisy from the lounge below with evening entertainment. It has a lovely covered balcony with extra room so you can see right down the back too.

For our scenic cruise we couldnt have had a better room. The big suites at the back (which we looked at) were big and lovely but only faced the back when on the balcony. We could see where we had been and where we were going.:D

It is very handy for the lifts too.

I feel quite jealous now thinking of someone else in our room.!!:D
