  1. In the UK we have cash passports. These allow you to load a card with whatever currency you want/need and use as a type of credit card.Obviously we have loaded ours with dollars so when we purchase anything on board e.g. The drinks package,we can pay in dollars instead of prepaying in pounds at a rubbish rate.

  2. Of course, one person's intolerable noise might be as nothing to someone else.

That is absolutely true. The same as a location in foreword or aft cabins isn't everyones cup of tea.So that's why it is best to check deck plans and book your preferences if you are fussy like me.

It would be nice if Princess asked on booking, what you consider to be an upgrade.ha ha.imagine....

  3. We have only cruised twice and one of those was with princess.

This time ( August fjords) I booked the cabin I wanted and asked her to mark the booking no upgrade and then send me an email confirming that.it seems to be a great balcony, aft, corner.for me,noise from other passengers or entertainment is a real issue,so even if it costs me more,I know I will hopefully have a peaceful trip...:p

  4. That's a wrong assumption to make. Upgrades depend on yield management. They are given at random. Also, if you wanted to be upgraded to a mini-suite, you definitely wouldn't be under the Lido deck! Except maybe for the Royal or Regal... On most ships, mini-suites are on Emerald and Dolphin decks....

    It wasn't an assumption,it was a question.

Seems like a few mini suites are in the wrong place for me,hence the reason I don't want an upgrade.

  5. I book the balcony I want and never want an upgrade, even to a mini suite.my choices are made on location and noise.I may get a mini suite in a deck I don't like or above or below some noisy lido/ entertainment deck.

We got an upgrade once,on our first cruise, but that was because we made a fuss.we were below the lido deck and the 24 hour outside eating area.the noise of scraping chairs drove me nuts above my head in my first 10 minutes. They were adamant they would not move us,until we threatened to disembark. We had been sold the balcony cabin as a high price cabin as it was the highest deck and in the middle of the ship..

I wonder if the people who do get upgrades, have paid full price originally and not a sale price?

  6. I have just cancelled my package.I should have realised that it would cost more in pounds due to their currency conversion. As my husband now wants one if we have to queue for him we may as well queue for two.

Annie, what trip are you on inAugust? We are on fjords on 9th..

I might just like to add that Princess removed the package straight away with no questions asked.

  7. Hi

Sorry to jump in on this discussion but could anyone explain how one buys this package onboard. We're on Emerald in August ex Southampton and have been quoted a price in GBP to book in advance but given current exchange rates it is much more cost effective to pay in USD. Thanks for any advice.

Ann.I have prepaid for one package with pounds and my husband now wants one, I am beginning to think we should both book on board and pay in dollars, which we have..

  8. I,sadly have to have a window.I would get a bit ' panicky' without it.i so wish I could manage an inside and we would cruise more often as the price would be less, but I can't.we did a clipper cruise with a window and it was just about bearable.

I like to open a door ( as we can't open windows) when I arrive in a cabin and let the air through.who knows what smells and germs linger in that room...

To some this is silly but for me it makes me enjoy my cruise.

It would be nice to have a room with an opening window....

  9. Do let them know if you have any allergies etc and check the menu beforehand, confirming it if you have dislikes as the main course is compulsory when you are there. We had no allergies and the main course was rib of beef, fine. But when we got there it had been changed to veal without our knowledge. We dont eat veal and they got very cross with us. Making me feel embarrassed in front of everyone.we had lamb chops from the MDR brought in,with what I can only describe as buffet vegetables....potato croquettes and poor vegs.it was like a punishment.

It was so bad we almost felt like we were the guilty ones and I will never do that again. This was on the Star.
