  1. Maybe so hubby can leave her sleeping undisturbed in the cabin and walk across the corridor to get his tea and watch telly or read or ?? Besides, we often found room service tea water was served in carafes that previously held coffee......yuck! The taste of coffee mixed with tea is not nice!

I definitely do not sleep in..ha ha..But you are right about coffee in pots that contain tea.We have had this numerous times and as I don't drink coffee I am very sensitive to it.Often tasting it in cups!!

My dear husband always pops out to get the morning tea as I would have 'prepare' myself for the public if I went! ;)

  2. Thank you for your replies and images( and fonzy)!!

We are looking at A4...By the looks of the replies so far there aren't any DO NOT HAVE cabins..!

I am sure I will come up with a few more queries if we book today..Looks a lovely company. We did Regent last December and although a lovely ship and great staff, there were many 'hiccups'..

  3. We have never cruised with Oceania before and we are looking at a cruise in the med next summer.

We have chosen a concierge level stateroom( not yet booked). From what I can see they are all on deck 9.please could you advise me on what stateroom to book or not book ?

We chose this grade for the use of the spa facilities mainly, hoping to sit outside in a quiet area.

    Thank you for your help.

    Jane.

  4. Glad my appendix is out already then!

But seriously it is the same 'scenario' for all sorts of holidays, trekking, safaris, wilderness wild animal watching etc etc. So it is important to have a good list of all your medication available should you take ill, your allergies noted and fill in the medical form accurately.

At least there is more chance of a surgeon being on board then in the jungle!

They also have defibrillators unlike many aircraft!

You can only do what you have to do...enjoy and be reassured..!

  5. What sort of boating activities are available from the Marina Platform on the Royal Clipper? Do they have any jet-skis or small sailboats available for passenger use?

When we sailed her in the Caribbean,we never had the option to use the platform. All water sports were from the beach. We had kayaks, windsurfers, water skis and a small boat..No jet skis ,thank goodness.

  6. Our first cruise is next week (YAY!!) and we went with the "aquarium" cabin. I HOPE it doesn't bother me and I am going in with a good attitude about it, especially after reading so many posts about not being in your cabin much and rafting, etc.

I have never been on ANY type of cruise, but I know for sure I would never book an interior or non-balcony on an ocean cruise *shudder* Something about being on a river doesn't bother me as much or give me Titanic-style nightmares, lol.

The room does make a difference to me, but not above the actual trip. I knew we wanted this itinerary and a pre-stay in Nuremberg with a small window of dates we were available to go. Not getting a balcony was the one concession I made to stay more in budget, so I think we did pretty good!

You will be fine.We always have a balcony on an ocean cruise( except star clippers). Having just done Emerald waterways,Danube,I was very happy to have done the research I did about cabins. We opted for aquarium class. So happy with the choice.

I decided that we wanted to see both sides of the river whilst cruising and did not want to share my balcony space with another ship alongside us.We had many days when we were moored against other ships. The balconies were unusable. At one point the port side had three days of it in a row..People actually complained as they had splashed out on balconies and suites. The small print does warn of this..

The money we saved has got us a grill suite on Cunard for 4 nights!( with a balcony)!

Speaking of interior decor. We did find the dining room very noisy on our cruise as the ship is so modern and has no soft furnishings to absorb the noise..shouting constantly over meals!!

  7. I disagree with the suggestion that wines can be more expensive in a package than out with. Most packages offer a saving of almost the cost of a bottle of wine in a 6 bottle package for example.

We looked at the captains collection for our next cruise and all the wines we would like, are less than $40 dollars to buy individually.Yet the the price in the package works out at $43 per bottle. Is there tax to be paid if bought individually,if not it would be cheaper to buy the bottles that way..?

    Thank you.

  8. We are looking at doing a med cruise and I am interested to know if there is much difference in category 3 and 4.Is it purely positioning? If so we may be able to get a category 4 right next door to a category3 if booking early.

We had a cat 3 on our last cruise and we were very happy with it..

Also is there any point in getting a balcony?

    Thank you.

  9. Yeh go for it Lois.

All the advice on which company to take, makes hardly any difference by the sound of it.We have all had a great time and all with different companies.

Unless you know the dynamics of the booking for your particular cruise, you have no idea if there will be no one with a stroller or 20 strollers on a large tour group. It makes no difference to us how many strollers or over 70s there are,fit or unfit 50 yr olds there. What OP should look for is the equipment and opportunities to get some decent exercise if you are fit..and walking distances in ports of call.

I think to the OP wants to now about mobility levels of other passengers and as I said, that is virtually impossible to predict.

  10. It is as active as you want it to be.All our stops on Emerald recently,Danube, could be a gentle tour or faster pace tour with the company or you go off and do what you like.

We are mid fifties and we used the bikes on board and cycled round Vienna. We used them at least twice more to enable us to get to the safe riverside swimming ares.Yes we swam in the Danube,a first for Emerald cruisers apparently.

The bikes enabled us to 'escape',get fit and enjoy the local scenery.

There was a walk track on the sundeck used by most people early morning and a gym. We also had a pool and although small it had a jet stream that enabled us to swim for ages against it.

There were quite a few people our age and over 70 too on board but age of others doesn't bother us.Some of the older folk were a lot fitter then some of the young..

Please don't let what the other passengers told you, put you off.You are as young as you feel and as fit as you want to be...

  11. Oooooh,lucky you.

We have done one Clipper cruise, also to the windward isles.

We loved it.I can be a bit fussy but nothing spoiled our adventure at all.

Our favourite sea voyage, ever. We are looking at the med next year and then maybe Thailand the year after, all on Royal clipper..

One problem we had was the confusion over OBC.We had quite a large credit, used it on port tours and drinks. At the end of the cruise we were told it wasn't for drink...we had a heavy discussion with the purser and after contacting our travel agent when we got home, they eventually repaid us our money. We would have got nowhere on our own but even our agent got different stories when she phoned the main office. From that we will always get in writing what the OBC is for..

But as I said we had a wonderful Christmas cruise onboard.Didnt rate St Kitts much. The sea was surprisingly rough at times. We knew we were in for a rough sail when we returned to our cabin after dinner and the cotsides were up on the bed!!

The cabin was great, well looked after by our young girl.Food excellent, activities good and bar prices very reasonable..enjoy!

  12. There are two Marriotts in Budapest. One by the river and the other is more central but not in a very nice area..

If you can, make a booking for the restaurant Robinsins on the lake at heroes square. The tour buses stop there so easy to get to..On a hot day book to sit outside.beautiful setting and wonderful food.

Also try a Ruin Inn.New bars in Budapest, mainly in the Jewish quarter. The most popular one being Szimpla...Quite unique places set up amongst old ruins of houses, outside courtyards.Very quirky..

Other places to visit have been mentioned already.

We loved Budaoest and will definitely be back.

  13. Does anyone know if they are sold on the QV? Love Walker's ready salted Crisps and hoping to enjoy them on the cruise.:)

I understand what you are saying. If you state what cruise, maybe some nice Brit will bring you on a few packets.;)

  14. I was given an AMA brochure yesterday from my TA who really recommend we do their Africa cruise.

Its starting price is £6,239 per person at cheapest rate.A lot of money.

    3 nights in Tintswalo Atlantic Lodge,Cape Town.Winelands tour,Table mountain,cape of good hope,boulders beach,cape point.

    4 nights Zambezi Queen river cruise.balcony staterooms,national park safari,private boat safaris,visit a village,traditional Boma dinner.

3 Nights stay in Elephant camp ( intimate lodge under canvas),

Zambezi River sunset cruise with tapas, tour of Victoria falls.limited edition tours.

    Various meals,drinks etc included.

Intra-Africa air is £964 per person.

There are also extensions that can be added pre or post trip.

No mention if flights are included or not..

Sad to say that we won't be forking out £14,000 for this trip:(

  15. Hi, thanks for the reply:).....everyone has different priorities.....what

was it about the dining part that you didn't "take to"?

Sailing on my own, I enjoy dining with other people so hopefully

I won't be eating by myself every night;)

You are absolutely right about different priorities. Our ship was brand new and no soft furnishings in the dining room and lower ceilings.Very noisy. It was a shouting match every meal time.We also had to be there strict at 7pm or you were sent to the naughty table at the back..We also had buffet most of the trip only having meals served 4 times out of 21..There was always a queue at 7pm with people rushing to get the same table etc..

We liked sharing tables and we often had someone who was travelling solo.No problems mentioned from any of them..They all seemed to enjoy it immensely had no qualms about travelling alone again..In fact two were recently widowed and were very apprehensive about going, but settled in to it very well, pleased to have had their first solo holiday on a river cruise..
