  1. It breaks my heart to hear someone who is gay  is upset  when prepping for a cruise. We are not gay, but we always ended up being friends with gays on most cruises.
We had alot of bookings in restaurants prior to our Amazon cruise as we had a high suite. I tried to work out the best days according to daytime activities. But we still dropped a few once on board.so I’m sure others drop or swap.  We always felt Jacques was the worst restaurant on board but it turned  out to be the chef and maitre  de .(who walked off the ship one morning and never came back!!) This last cruise,Jacques was our favourite. The new head chef delivers food  as  his daily special, and is far better than any other plate on that ship, Marina. We walked out of red ginger and dropped our bookings, leaving table for two at 7pm available twice.
So there is hope Mark. It’s lovely to read all these positive comments for you.
You will get what you want at some  point. 🥰

  2. We were fortunate to land on Falklands on our sailing. We did the Battlefields tour to pay our respects to the Lads who lost there lives and remain there.

The week before the Princess ship got everyone on land who wanted to go but the weather turned so quick they could not tender back to ship. They stayed with locals for the night.

Its hardly worth watching the weather for the next trip as it changes in minutes.

  3. Just wondering if anyone who has sailed Alaska to Anchorage, have stayed in Anchorage and done any tours for a few days?

Either that or stayed in Seattle for a few days.

We are looking at doing some private tours and accommodation post Alaska cruise in August/September.Thank you..

  5. We were on Marina when this all started, doing the Amazon trip. We had no previous notification except on the day of docking, sometimes an hour before. This lead to panic (with tender stops, especially) People who had made plans with private tour operators had to wait for tender tickets, placed after Oceania tours. They allowed a small handful of independents on each tender. This lead to a big delay for private tour operators awaiting passengers. Pity we weren’t notified prior to cruise so we could alert the tour operators.

A small number of cabins on Riviera still have a bathtub, for those who prefer one.

I just spent 2 weeks on Marina and we did have a wonderful cruise.  The furniture has more than luggage scuff marks. Drapes, bedskirt, headboard and sofa fabric worn. Lights not working, robe hook broken off, cabin door didn't completely close.  This wasn't specific to my cabin.  All the necessary repairs were made promptly. Service and food excellent. Public areas in better condition than cabins.  On Riviera this February and May and looking forward to the new cabin.

BTW, you no longer get a vanity mirror unless it's Concierge and above. When I called to say my mirror was missing, that's what reception said.  I thought she was kidding.  She wasn't!  A $10 mirror is now an amenity for Concierge and above.  What's next? The soap dish??

Not quite soap dish, but allowance of  one shampoo each a week in concierge on Christmas sail. !

I fault the Marina Master and the GM.  Neither was nowhere to be found.  None of the officers were friendly - like saying hello.  Neither matched our last two cruises on Seabourn or Regent where all the management would walk the ship regularly checking things out.  On Marina nothing.  Occasionally they would appear at barista -- but then to only to drink some coffee.

We saw the officers eating in The Terrace but as you said, no smiles or communication.I tried twice to see the GM, to no avail.Interrogation by Reception/concierge and excuses.

I have to say that we had a problem in 12009 regards aerobic room above us being opened from 6am and someone jogging on the spot and banging the weights down hard at 6.30 waking us up daily. The spa manager worked hard to find the problem and do something about it with success.

The deputy CD was very good and more fun than John the CD.
