    Yes, yes, no.

To elaborate on the first question, there's actually two steam rooms in the thermal suite. They are adjacent to each other and one is supposed to be a hammam with the flat slab of marble for you to lay on (although on all three E-class ships the stream room labeled hammam was hotter than the adjacent, smaller steam room). Whatsmore the sauna is an infrared sauna which works differently than a traditional Swedish sauna in that you need to sit right in front of one of the multiple infrared heaters for the heat to radiate onto your back and through your body. Just like infrared heaters for your home unless you're directly in front of the heater you won't feel the heat; that's how infrared heaters work. This accounts for why some people complain the saunas on the E-Class ships aren't hot enough; you have to sit right in front of one of the multiple infrared heaters for you to feel hot.

The E-Class ships unfortunately don't have a complementary sauna in the spa locker rooms like the M or S-class ships. All the hot rooms are in the thermal suite which you must pay for.

Thank you so much for this very detailed answer.

Oceania will honour the sale on an already booked cruise, but you will have to pay the current price for that cruise.  If the price of your cruise was cheaper when you booked, you will have to work out if it is worth paying the current price.

You are absolutely correct. I am on a BtoB cruise 40 days Nautica Singapore to Barcelona next May. The price has significantly increased since I booked it (+ €2,500 per pax). When asking Oceania to add the Olife Ultimate to my booking I was answered that I need to pay the current price thus adding €2,500 per person. And my estimate of the additional perk through Olife Ultimate was ... €2,500 per person! As a consequence, I changed nothing to my booking.

  3. Before Covid, as a Venetian Society Member, it was possible to board and spend a few hours on board SS ships while docked. I wanted to do this with the Silver Moon in Bordeaux this week but due to Covid, it was not possible. Does anybody know if SS intends to resume this service and if yes in which time frame? Thanks.

True.  Ratio is incredible.  But, I didn’t think they were running full crews since they’re restricting the passenger load.  Hence why I figured they were carrying extra crew in quarantine in order to be ready for the holiday voyage after yours.

When captain told us there were 407 crew members on board it did not specify whether it included those in quarantine or not. Thus I cannot tell you how active crew members there are at the moment.

Considering pre-pandemic crew capacity was 302, there must be a large turnover about to occur after this voyage.

If I am not mistaken pre-pandemic crew capacity of the Moon was 411. So at 407 we are having a full crew. Knowing that 48 agents left us yesterday we are about 250 passengers on board now. Ratio is not too bad 😉

  6. Roberto Martinoli and Barbara Muckermann are on board as well as other SS executives and many travel agents. We are 309 passengers altogether. Some (or most?) of those invited guests will disembark as soon as tomorrow in Cozumel. The Silver Moon will become a ghost ship!

Were you meant to be staying in Miami? Mine (night of 2 Jan) is Fort Lauderdale - though they still dont know what the hotel will be. I spoke yesterday to see if I could get any news. my consultant thinks its likely to be the Marriot Harbor Beach resort, which would be fine.

Interestingly he had no idea of any plans for ours (ie disembarking in Ecuador) and how they would be able to continue, given the seemingly lack of access to Peru and the nigh impossible clearance to Chile if the cruise starts in Guayaquil and all the PCR tests likely needed, especially now.

I have some friends leaving from Atlanta tonight to London, then straight on a eurostar to Lyon. There for 4 nights, then return to London for 2 nights. All hotels and flights paid for or I'm sure they would cancel. PCR test to leave the US and arrive in London - where the UK expects a 2 day PCR and 2 day quarantine until results are known - even though its a transit visit. France also requires now a test on arrival taken within the past 48 hours. Then the UK expects the same coming back on Eurostar and again for Uncle Sam to get back home. That is a logistical nightmare and a step too far.

Hope it goes to plan for you!

In the meantime Spins, have a great holiday both of you and hope its a well rewarding non stressful cruise.

Thanks. Yes we stayed a couple of nights in Miami on our own. Should leave our hotel in the next hour or so. We keep our fingers crossed to get negative test result and embark the Moon. Our last cruise was on Silver Muse between Bali and Sydney. We are so happy to sail again.

The only thing I don't understand about the ship itself is that there is no outdoor, forward-facing public space. Perhaps we'll never be able to sail along La Giudecca canal but where on a ship would you want to be as you sail into Rio or Sydney or Oslo or Saigon, or anywhere, actually?

On the Muse it is possible to take a stair next to the observation lounge and to move up one floor accessing an open terrace with a complete view forward facing. I entered Sydney Harbour in 2019 and it was a memorable experience. Is the Silver Moon different?

I did take a peak on Skyscanner to check flights back from Guayaquil and there are none on 19th Jan. In fact there are zero flights showing from the 12th to 24th Jan.

KLM operates direct flights from Guayaquil to AMS. There is one on January 19 KL 755 departing GYE at 20:10 and arriving at 13:25 the next day. As far as I am concerned, SS took care of us and rebooked us on KL flight from GYE to AMS for our December 18 flight. It seems that they will add 1 port of call in Costa Rica and maybe 1 more overnight stay in Panama City. We should know soon I guess
