  1. I seriously doubt the December 4 Shadow cruise will sail.   However, say that it does but you are barred from traveling to Puerto Rico or from Florida I can’t see Silversea not having to let you cancel or at least change your booking to a later date and maybe different itinerary.

Thank you for this answer. I was more specifically asking regarding a refund and not a FCC which I know I will be entitled.

  2. December 1 from Mumbai to Singapore  would seem extremely doubtful given 6.7M COVID 19 cases vs 57.8K (Source: Johns Hopkins)   Tourists are allowed into Singapore, but must have a valid letter for entry  and have to stay in a stay at a dedicated facility at their expense and successfully pass a COVID 19 test, also at their expense.

December 4 San Juan to Ft Lauderdale with stops in the 13 stops in the Caribbean seems very optimistic.    Puerto Rico has a curfew from 10PM to 5AM through 16 Oct and requires a negative COVID 19 test for entry or test at airport and quarantine for 14 days or until test results received.  Need to check after mid October and see if the entry and curfew rules change.

We are booked on a Silver Shadow charter in February 2021.  A lot has to happen before we will be able to go.

My December 4 cruise aboard Shadow is still showing on the web. Knowing that as a European resident I am forbidden to fly to both the US and Puerto Rico, what would happen if SS maintains my cruise, since I cannot reach the port of embarkation? Can I ask for a full refund of my cruise or since Silversea operates the cruise I will be denied a refund even if it is not my choice to cancel my cruise? I add that this cruise was booked before the start of the epidemic. Thanks for your thoughts about this.

  3. Do you think December 2020 cruises will be cancelled and if yes when it should happen? I am supposed to cruise aboard Silver Shadow from December 4 to 18. And I am almost sure the cruise will not happen but I still need SS to cancel to ask for the 100% refund. Thanks.

  4.
Airlines are constantly changing schedules these days, and many people who have booked seats on future flights lose them every day due to flights being cancelled and other scheduling changes, particularly for flights months in advance. Your situation is a little different, because the flight has not changed, but I still think it's likely the airline has cancelled other flights, perhaps combining two into one, and is adjusting booked passengers. And the airline will likely prioritize customers paying full fare first, customers at the top of their loyalty program second, customers paying discounted/group/bulk fares (like Silversea) third, and other customers traveling on points last. So that's why I think airline schedule changes are relevant in your case, even though the flights you were originally booked on remain on the schedule.

Unfortunately I am afraid they are not in my case. I know pretty well the airline industry and I have reached the highest level of sky team loyalty program. I will get in touch with AF to understand what happened to my booking.

I'd note that while the flights you want may remain on the schedule, many others have likely been cut. As a result, the number of discounted, group contract seats on each flight may have been reduced -- especially for premium seats that produce the most revenue for the airline. So the flights may still be there, but SS may no longer have access to them.

Thanks for your comments but the flights were booked and confirmed and now removed. So while I understand your comments should my flights had not been booked and confirmed I do not think they are relevant in my case.

  6. I have exactly the same problem as yours. Up to now I could get the flights I wanted easily. I use to submit my air itinerary and it was straightforward. Recently for a cruise in the Caribbean SS booked exactly the Air France flights I wanted. Suddenly back a month ago I started to see many changes and finally they have removed the entire booking. The guy at SS told me it’s because AF has cancelled or changed their schedule but it’s wrong. The 4 flights I was suppose to fly are still operating normally. I think SS has changed some of their contracts with some airlines and they do not want to disclose it. It’s pity because I could understand it. They prefer put the responsibility on airlines rather than assuming the truth. Anyway the cruise I am talking about us due to départ in December 2020 so I dit not argue a lot with SS since I know that it will not happen.

  7. We actually have used the on board consultant and have had dinner with at least three.  They all knew TA we used as several SS cruisers use the same agent and agency.   They had no issues with the transfer.  I was speaking more of using the land based cruise consultants and taking up their time.

It seems there is a « famous » TA, very good seller of SS Cruises, known by many on this forum. I am desperately looking to a good one. I know the rule of this forum which prevent its members from sharing the name of their TA. How can I do? Thanks.

  8. Am I sure?  Not absolutely because as you pointed out things could have changed.  I did ask my SS cruise consultant about transferring a booking to an external TA.   She said it didn’t impact her as she was salaried not on a commission.   Again, things might have changed.

I use to have a SS CC in London (unfortunately he has just left SS a few weeks ago I guess because of the Covid pandemic). Very good and knowledgeable guy. Once, I told him that I was trying to find a TA to take care of my booking and get some additional perks. He was surprised and thought I was not happy with his service. He did everything to keep me. I had the feeling that he had some incentives to service me and did not want me to use a TA.
Since that guy left SS, I have been assigned a new CC, still in the London office. I do not know her well for the moment since our only interactions are refund management related. I do not know what would be her reaction should I inform her that I want to transfer my booking to a TA.
  9. Good point above.  My sense is that the updates on the Silversea website sometimes lag behind being posted immediately versus when the first announcements are made by other parts of the SS/RCCL structure.

September 10 Silver Muse Seward to Tokyo canceled this morning by Silversea. I have asked for a full refund.

  10. On the SS website today, an update regarding the resumption of cruise but surprisingly the Seward Tokyo departing September 10 is still showing. Should be canceled following the decision by CLIA members to voluntarily suspend all cruises from/to the USA until September 14. A question of days I suppose?

  11. I am also supposed to sail on September 10 from Seward. My SS Cruise Consultant told me some weeks ago that my cruise is likely to be cancelled. So I am just waiting the formal announcement.

  12. In April 2020, I was assigned my cabin for a May 2021 cruise! I booked a vista GTY and was assigned a vista suite not really well located being at the forefront of the ship. But this is the rule of the game and I have no idea whether I could be upgraded by then or if I will keep this suite. I will be so happy anyway should the cruise happen whatever my cabin is!

  13. I am on this cruise as well flying from Switzerland through Seattle. My SS cruise consultant told me that this cruise is likely to be cancelled. So I will wait until I know exactly what is the future of this cruise before I think about any sanitary protocol and how to fulfill it.

  14. Based on my back of envelope calculations, the company has only enough liquidity at this time with $0 future revenue to survive 2020 (not 2021) based on a $275MM monthly burn rate and $2.45 billion in cash and cash equivalents on hand.

As expensive as the new bond offering is, should it close successfully next Tuesday, I believe RCL will have to issue even more expensive debt to survive 2021 even if they are able to restart operations in late summer / early fall.

Thanks. Not so encouraging news! But realistic I guess. I cannot imagine a resumption of cruising in 2020 and probably quite limited in 2021.

  15. Highly unlikely as the purpose of the new debt offering Is to repay the recently issued $2.35 billion 1-year loan with Morgan Stanley.  And, while the remaining value of the new offering will be used for “general corporate purposes”, rest assured that boiler plate language means most likely the remaining funds will be used to pay off $400MM of debt that matures later this year, as well as $900 million in 2021.

As you can see, this offering’s purpose isn’t isn’t to accomplish what you hoped for, but rather to extend debt maturities farther into the future, thereby improving overall liquidity of the corporation.

One last thing, upon release of the first quarter earnings report, we should learn more about the $1.0B - $1.3B write down of Silversea and other assets that was announced in the bond offering.

Thanks. At least if the proceed of this offering can allow RCL and its subsidiaries to survive 18 months with 0 revenue, it will give me some hope to get the cash refunds for my three booked cruises.

Great above points by TTS as to the challenges for getting decent/solid travel insurance, plus the risks of being quarantined, if and if, etc. Many risks and concerns.   Also, appreciate the other good and insightful comments, questions and wisdom shared by others.

In my view, Seabourn has been much more realistic and honest in saying now that they do not expect to start sailing any of their five luxury ship until the period of mid-October and early November.  Clearly, Silversea and other cruise line are not even close to having the needed testing tools, good airline connections, countries being open, etc., etc., in order to resume a reasonable and safe level of customer offerings. Plus, having its key audience of those age 60+ being reasonably confident that the health risks will be minimal during airline flights and on these ships with hundreds of passengers and staff grouped together.

From a posting to the PR Newswire last night, this release had this headline: “Royal Caribbean Announces Pricing Of $3.32 Billion Senior Secured Notes” with these highlights: “Royal Caribbean Cruises announced that it has priced its private offering of $1.0 billion aggregate principal amount of 10.875% Senior Secured Notes due 2023 and $2.32 billion aggregate principal amount of 11.500% Senior Secured Notes due 2025.

    Dear TLCOhio

Do we know whether this $3.32 billion bonds have been fully subscribed yet? Is this supposed to happen this morning USA time? My hope is that if it is successful, RCL will announce at least a 6-month time frame cancellation, allowing us to ask for a full refund of our deposit.
