  1. Her back is great physically. She still isn't quite to the point where she is 100% mentally trusting that she can move without hurting her back. She lived with the problem for more than 10 years and it's amazing what she learned to do to compensate and avoid causing pain. She's slowly getting there and is VERY happy that she had the surgery. Micheline's surgery was for a herniated/slipped disc, but I'm guessing that Linda will need something different for spinal stenosis. I'm no neurosurgeon though.
  2. Sorry...too late. I'd offer you some leftovers but as OB has stated before, there's no such thing as leftover Italian food (or at least that was my excuse last night 😁).
  3. Yesterday was Micheline's birthday. I surprised her with the Billy Joel tickets that I mentioned previously and she loved it. We need to also pick a Broadway show to see while there. Any recommendations for something that's relatively new? We've seen Hamilton, Lion King, Alladin, and Chicago. I've heard good things about The Book of Mormon. I asked where she wanted to go to dinner and she decided that she wanted us to make homemade pasta instead of going out. As we started preparing for dinner, we told Alexa to play Billy Joel music. It's amazing 1) how many songs he has and 2) how you know the words to almost all of the songs. We started with a Caprese Salad appetizer. The Buffalo Mozzarella was fantastic. We can get Italian 00 flour in our local grocery store and I think it makes a big difference. We're too lazy to make it by hand though and use a food processor instead. The final product, with a homemade sauce, Caesar salad, garlic bread, and some Valpolicella before/during/after the meal. It was excellent. No worries about twirling/splaching since we were at home.😁 Mangia! Please excuse the mess in the background. Micheline is into Halloween as much as Greg is into Christmas. For several reasons, she hasn't done her usual Halloween stuff since we moved here. She's going all out this year but has to figure out all over again where to put things.
  4. At least it looks like they aren't overly aggressive and you can easily walk by. Doing that over and over for 600 yards would get old though. I hope the payoff is worth it!
  5. I'd suggest doing some research before ordering a full-face mask. We asked about them on a snorkel excursion somewhere (might have been Woodwind in Bonaire) and were told that they don't use those masks. If you are snorkeling for a longer period of time, carbon dioxide can build up in the mask. Full-face snorkel mask causes IPO fatality - DIVE Magazine
  6. Have a great trip! I'd love to hear your thoughts on Campo de Fiori. We were supposed to stay at the Hotel Campo de Fiori in 2020 but that trip was cancelled due to Covid. We still plan, at some point, to recreate the same itinerary.
  7. Headed to Cincinnati again for another wedding...this time a friend's daughter. While there, we'll meet with an electrician at the 130-year-old Victorian style house that my older daughter is buying. She closes on Monday. The house still has a lot of knob and tube wiring which I want to have replaced before she moves in. The electrician is a specialist with old houses and is supposedly able to minimize damage to plaster walls and molding, and repair whatever damage is needed so that it's not visible. Should be an interesting process.
  8. Any chance that you'd be willing to post a few of your epigrams Lenny? I'd love to know what was interesting enough to you in HS to write about.
  9. One other point about snorkeling at Klein Bonaire, it's what's called drift snorkeling. You get in the water at point A and the water current "carries" you over the sights below water. No real effort required to swim...especially if you're floating on a noodle. Just stick your face in the water and watch the ocean floor go by. We had a woman traveling with us who had never snorkeled before and was somewhat afraid. She floated on a noodle and they had a guide essentially with her the whole time. She ended up loving it. The downside to drift snorkeling is that you leave the water at point B, which can be a ways away from point A if you're drifting for a while. Woodwind has their boat slowly follow you as you drift so they are always there in case you want to get out of the water. They have a few guides in the water with you, as well as an underwater photographer. I can't remember if there was a charge for the photos but on our trip, they were fantastic. I've snorkeled many times and love diving down to the bottom for a closeup look at things (although my form isn't great 😁).
  10. If you'd rather not DIY Greg, and don't mind spending a little more money ($85 pp), I'd HIGHLY recommend Woodwind for a snorkel tour. It's one of the best excursions that we've ever done. Great snorkeling, good food/drink after snorkeling, high quality gear, and excellent service. It's about a 15 minute walk to their dock from the ship. They sell out well in advance so it might be too late.
  11. Yes. My son-in-law planned everything after doing a lot of research. My daughter planned the wedding. He planned the honeymoon. Worked out well for both of them.
  12. Let's try that again. My daughter and SIL have moved from Switzerland to Lake Como. Lots of pictures incoming. The view from their balcony in Bellagio Misc. Bellagio shots Boat trip to Villa del Balbianello, a villa with a lot of history but perhaps mostly known for its film appearances in Casino Royal and Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones No George Clooney sightings yet. 😁
  13. We've already talked about it, although it seems a little weird following in our daughter's footsteps. We did have a Lake Como trip cancelled due to Covid and we still want to go there. What she said!
  14. They move to Bellagio on Lake Como tomorrow, I think. Will be an interesting difference between the Alps and Lake Como.
  15. Daily Switzerland photos, this time, from Jungfraujoch, the "Top of Europe". To get there, you take Jungfraujoch Railway, a cog railway to a tunneled, underground station near the top of the mountain The longest glacier in the Alps:
