  1. This is the first time in a VERY long time that someone has posted about a port that I've neither been to in person nor read about previously on Cruise Critic. I don't recall ever reading about Catalina/Avalon here. I knew about it, and have wanted to visit, but it just hasn't made it to the top of the list when we visit the west coast. Too many other things to do and never enough time. Looks like an interesting place that would be fun for a long weekend.
  2. I somewhat jokingly commented to my daughter that her husband is gripping the railing pretty tightly in the first photo. She said it was swaying in the wind and was more than a little scary.
  3. More pics from Switzerland. First Cliff Walk Lunch in Mürren. Mürren is a village that sits on a terrace next to a cliff at about 5400 feet above the valley floor. The Bond movie "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" had some scenes shot there in the late 60s (George Lazenby rather than Sean Connery 👎). It's a popular place for base jumping. I have a hard time even watching this video. And no...neither my daughter not her husband are considering anything even close to this.
  4. My daughter wasn't too sure either and made the last minute decision to give it a try. She told the guy doing the "driving" to go easy with gentle turns and drops. My SIL on the other hand asked for the full treatment with flips and spins.
  5. My daughter and her husband are on their honeymoon right now. They spent a couple of days in Interlaken, Switzerland and have now moved to Grindelwald, Switzerland. They are sending lots of amazing pictures. What a stunningly beautiful place! I've been to Zurich and Geneva but both were business trips. They are beautiful cities themselves, but I'm adding Grindelwald to my bucket list. 😁Anyone else been to Interlaken or Grindelwald? Paragliding in Interlaken. Harder Kulm observation point, above Interlaken Grindelwald Their hotel balcony A pretty nice view for eternity
  6. Love this. I can relate. I usually enjoy interacting with people so I'm sometimes thought of as an extrovert, but I'm an introvert at heart. When I need to "re-charge", I'd rather be alone. Q: How can you tell if a coder is an introvert? A: They stare at their shoes when they talk to you. Q: How can you tell if a coder is an extrovert? A: They stare at your shoes when they talk to you.
  7. I nearly fell for a similar scam from a company proclaiming to be the PGA Tour Superstore and selling Titleist golf balls for an incredibly low price. The price was so low that I first checked the real PGA Tour Superstore website and couldn't find anything close to a sale for that price. The website in the ad was not pgatoursuperstore.com but rather something similar like pgatoursuperstoresale.com. The fake ad was on X (aka Twitter), not FB. FB is a cesspool when it comes to this sort of thing...the primary reason that I avoid it completely. Keep an eye on your credit card for fraudulent charges or if you really want to be safe, notify your credit card company and get it switched right away.
  8. I really like the music videos that you post. They are on topic (i.e. sweet dreams before going to bed) but also interesting covers of the original artist. How do you find all of these cover songs? Do you already know what songs you want for different situations or do you search for something like "bedtime related music"?
  9. Thanks. My daughter got married this past weekend. It was a fantastic wedding. She's honeymooning in Switzerland and Lake Como for a couple of weeks. I think I'll send her a link to this review and tell her that she has to write something similar about her trip. Since you guided me to your 2017 review, I decided to actually look for my old post tracking spreadsheet. Can't find it anywhere. It must have not made the cut in a past hard drive cleaning. I did however find my most recent chart from the spreadsheet on Shutterfly (I forgot that I even have an account 😁). Here it is, from partway through your Indy cruise: For this current review, you're at 535 posts and not even done with day 2. I think you'll be setting a new record for posts/cruise day.
  10. I've been gone for a few days Harry but I'm all caught up now. Glad to see that this review is still going strong. I really should find my cc posts per cruise day spreadsheet. I assumed that this review wouldn't compete with your past reviews since it's only 4 days. But we're 500+ posts in and still on day 2! Impressive.
  11. We are back in Florida after a fantastic wedding weekend. Other than Micheline's sister's family not being able to attend, everything went flawlessly. The ceremony and reception were at Pinecroft at Crosley Estate, which was the estate of Powell Crosley Jr. Among other things, he was the owner of the Cincinnati Reds. The ceremony was outdoors in the garden area. We took all of the photos before the ceremony and it got a little warm sitting in the sun. Right before the guests began to arrive, it got a little overcast with a slight breeze and the weather ended up being perfect. The reception was in a large pavilion and was decorated beautifully. The DJ was incredible and the most important thing that my daughter wanted...a light up dance floor...was the hit of the night. There were a few slower dances, but it was pretty much non-stop dancing for 3+ hours. Both my daughter and son-in-law (still sounds weird saying that) have a large group of great "kids" as friends wholove to have a good time. They are all so incredibly polite. It didn't hurt that most of the girls there were dancers, including two who are currently Cincinnati Ben-Gal cheerleaders. I'm a little biased but it was probably the most fun wedding I've been to (although many other people agreed). The Father-Daughter dance went great. After a few practice steps with my daughter the day before, I easily got the rhythm and added a few spins and other moves. I was fully focused on my daughter and didn't even think about everyone else there but when I got back to our table, all of the women were crying. I guess that's a good thing. 😁 Most of the upstairs of the estate was the bridal suite with separate rooms for hair/make-up, dressing, etc. The Groom's suite was in a really cool basement area with a bank vault door that hid a wine cellar that was used during prohibition days. One of the upstairs rooms was reserved for the fathers. I didn't take a lot of pictures but got a few of the estate and ceremony area before the guests arrived. The bride looking out one of the windows of her suite Looking down from the fathers room while the bride and groom "privately" (while mic'd and being recorded by 2 videographers and 2 photographers) shared vows Wedding party pictures by the rear of the main house. The walk up this aisle with my daughter both seemed to take a long time and was over in an instant I stole a couple of pictures from other people...the first dance: The Father-Daughter dance (no video 😉) Dance floor fun after a few drinks. The bride seems happy. 😁 We had a 50 person rehearsal dinner on Thursday night, the wedding on Friday night, and then Micheline and I toured our family through some of the history of Cincinnati and finished with dinner in a restaurant room overlooking Great American Ballpark where the Reds had a home game and there were fans everywhere. Way, WAY too much food and drink over 3 days. Time to give my stomach and my liver a break.
  12. Quick wedding update. Mostly going according to plan, with one sad exception. Micheline’s sister and her kids/kids in law aren’t going to make it. They were flying from Newark last night and their flight got cancelled due to weather and lack of flight crews. Tried to find alternate flights but couldn’t. The ceremony is tonight so they had to call and say they couldn’t be here. Friends of our daughter had the same problem but from another NYC airport and were able to reschedule today to Louisville then drive 2 hours. They’ll make it though. Air travel these days just sucks. The ladies have been at the venue since 7:30 doing hair and makeup. I’m at the hotel and will hop in the shower and head there around 2:00. The wedding starts at 5:30. I can do nothing there as easily as doing nothing here. Practiced the dance yesterday with my daughter and nothing to worry about. She led for a few seconds until I figured out what she was doing. Should be good.
  13. Getting ready to head to Cincinnati for our daughter's wedding this weekend. I'll be offline for a few days. As far as we can tell, everything is ready to go! Put the finishing touches on my father of the bride toast yesterday. My only concern at this point is the father-daughter dance. My daughter went with I'll be your Man by the Zac Brown Band. The lyrics are great but it's not a traditional slow dance (she doesn't want that) and the beat is somewhere between fast and slow. I still have to figure out how to dance to that song. 🤷‍♂️🕺
  14. In all my years of sailing on Royal ships, I never once thought about a Studio A. How could I have not had that thought? I need to turn in my engineer card. Disgraceful. I can confirm that Suite seats are opened to everyone shortly before the show starts. Great video of the drones!
  15. Football is back baby! Almost time for the Ohio State kickoff at 3:30. Normally, I'd have a cold beer in my hand right now. Instead, I'm enjoying a Margarita. RIP Jimmy.
  16. I bet there are thousands upon thousands of Jimmy Buffett stories being told today. Almost all will involve a lot of happiness.
  17. You guys had much better weather in Juneau than we did last September. It poured buckets most of the day. Untitled video (5).mp4 Although I did get almost the same picture that you took during a slight break in the rain, and the waterfalls coming down were spectacular.
  18. Wow. That one hurts more than most for some reason. I'm not really a Parrothead and I've never seen him in concert, but I've been spending a lot of time lately listening to Radio Margaritaville by the pool while sipping on a tiki drink. I like the fantasy of living life one day at a time, looking for joy in board shorts and flip flops. 76 is way too young. I wonder what will happen with his multi-billion dollar empire.
