  1. I think all of the prints available for purchase in the various galleries around here are pretty significantly post processed. You’re no longer in journalism Greg…artistic enhancement is allowed! 🤣🤣
  2. I’m still working on pics and videos from our Na Pali Coast sunset boat cruise. I took WAY too many pics and need to edit down to the best few. I’ll hopefully post soon.
  3. Great meal tonight at the hotel sushi restaurant called Stevenson’s Library. I started with a Koala Koola, a dark (floater) and coconut rum drink with Midori and pineapple juice. Micheline, of course, had a Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc. We snacked on edamame while enjoying our drinks. My cocktail disappeared quickly so I had to replace it with a smoked Manhattan with Whistle Pig rye. Perfect. IMG_9881.MOV We then split a Shipwreck roll (named after the beach in front of the hotel) and a sushi pizza. Both were excellent. We’ll definitely make the sushi pizza at home…ahi, salmon, onion, tobiko mushroom, and various sushi sauces on naan. Very good. Apologies to @Ocean Boy and any other Italians reading this thread, but the Tiramisushi dessert was outstanding. Chocolate ganache, chocolate cake, Kauai coffee mousse, crème anglaise caramel sauce, raspberry coulis. Incredible.
  4. No added lighting. It was just the natural light from the large opening, combined with the iPhone doing its thing in low light.
  5. We might have had a second round of Mai Tais at lunch, so we walked around Hanalei Town and did some shopping to let the alcohol wear off and let the rain stop. As we pulled away from Hanalei Town, we saw several waterfalls that didn’t exist before it started raining. The close up of the waterfall one the right doesn’t really give it enough perspective. It has to be at least 1000 feet tall. Amazing. We continued past Hanalei and drive all the way to Haena Beach. There’s a cool cave called Maniniholo Dry Cave across the street from the beach. It’s a very large opening that goes back at least 100 feet. IMG_9873.MOV The beach there was gorgeous. We spent a few minutes enjoying it but decided not to spend any significant time on the beach. IMG_9872.MOV At that point, we were running out of steam and started the 1.5 hour drive back to our hotel. We’ve just showered and will try the hotel sushi restaurant for dinner. More seafood!!
  6. I think we’re going to buy a large print from a local photographer. This is one that we’re considering. And for comparison, here’s a professional version of the picture that I took under the Hanalei pier.
  7. But first, dessert. Pineapple, papaya, passion orange, and macadamia nut ice cream.
  8. We continued on the Hanalei Bay. We walked around for a bit and took some pictures before the skies opened up. We got drenched, but that’s half the fun. Every art gallery on the island seems to have this photo, although more lit up and colorful We decided to get some lunch at The Hanalei Gourmet restaurant to dry off and wait out the rain. They have Mai Tais! And very good fresh Marlin sandwiches. And Wi-Fi, hence these posts. Time to drive further to some nice beaches.
  9. We continued further up the road and stopped at a couple of overlooks. The first was a little north of Kapa’a on the east shore. We then stopped to look over the taro fields in the Hanalei Valley
  10. First stop today was at the Wailua falls. It’s a nice set of twin falls at the end of a road with an overlook. No hiking required.
  11. Yup. You can always go “old school” with TP and the flush handle.
  12. I really like this automated toilet. It works very well. That’s all I have to say about that.
  13. Good morning from paradise, aka Kauai. If seeing the Na Pali Coast is not yet on your bucket list, it needs to be. More on that later. Today’s plan is to drive to the North Shore and wander a bit. I had hoped to hike to the Queen’s Bath but it’s apparently closed due to rough seas. Several people have drowned there so they are very careful now. We’ll stop at the Wailua Falls on the way there, and maybe make a stop at the Kilauea Lighthouse. We’ll definitely poke around Hanalei Town and might stop at a few beaches. There’s a chance of rain so we’ll play things by ear. More to come…
  14. Reminds me of this famous New Yorker Magazine cover showing a New Yorker’s view of the country.
  15. Everything is shot with my iPhone 12 Pro Max. Left my Canon 7D and lenses at home. I’ll often use the Lightroom App to shoot images in raw format and then do some post processing. Video is shot with the standard iPhone Photos app.
  16. Slight change of plans. It was a little cloudy with a chance of rain this morning so we cancelled the morning snorkeling idea, for now. Instead, Micheline is enjoying some shopping therapy at The Shops at Kukuiula. They have a Blue Ginger, which is one of her favorite stores. I’m relaxing on an outdoor bench in the middle of the shopping area while sipping on a double espresso and listening to Hawaiian music. I can go for this kind of shopping. I might wander to the Tommy Bahama store. 😉
  17. So there was a brief bidet discussion in @A&L_Ont Andrew’s live review. The toilet in our hotel plugs in. And has a remote. And instructions. @TravelGirlinDallas - This one is an upflow 😉
  18. He was fun to talk to. His name was Stefan and he was from Switzerland near Zurich. He’s been flying helicopters since 2016 but only moved to Kauai a couple of months ago. He sure knew his island history, or maybe did a good job of making things up that sound good. 😁
  19. The weather was great. It looked cloudy from the heliport but that’s apparently typical and was just over the center of the island…the highest. All helicopters seem to follow more or less the same hour long tour. We saw several other helicopters doing the same thing ahead or behind us. I don’t know about setting down on a beach but we did see one set down at the base of “Jurassic Fall”, where they filmed the waterfall scene for the movie. That’s part of a movie themed tour since many movies have been filmed here. We did have both doors off. Micheline was SO glad that she decided to go doorless. What an experience.
  20. Good morning from paradise. It’s day 3 on Kauai. We have a sunset dinner cruise booked for this afternoon starting at 2:00. We’ll get to see the Na Pali Coast again, only from water level and hopefully with beautiful golden sunset light painting the cliffs. There’s a chance of rain this afternoon but hopefully it will be just a slight bit of liquid aloha. We’re headed to Poipu beach this morning for some snorkeling. First things first…coffee and breakfast.
  21. I just looked at all of the video clips that I recorded during our helicopter tour. I had planned to spend time editing the clips into a nice video with themed background music. I may still do that when I get home and have a real computer. Probably not, but maybe. No way that would happen on a phone. In the meantime, I threw all of the clips into iMovie and uploaded the result in YouTube. Enjoy!
