  1. We've parked near the West elevator the last couple of times. No wait at all. I'm guessing that people don't think about going around the corner past the entrance. Thanks for doing this. Your threads are always totally enjoyable, and often educational. Must be the love all serve all thing.
  2. I had a problem on my desktop last year where a VPN was not enough to watch a local sports event in another city. I found that YouTube TV uses Windows location services to see where your computer is located. I tried changing my default location but no luck. I would guess (I of course have no personal knowledge) that there would be some sort of app that can spoof your Windows location and would work successfully in conjunction with a VPN.
  3. Andrew - Was Owen able to sleep last night? Poor kid. Tough couple of days for you. Hospitals are never fun (other than I'm sure meeting OB).
  4. This device and an HDMI cable are standard packing items when I travel internationally. I too download several shows to my phone/iPad because I have had problems trying to trick YouTube TV into thinking I'm at home. YouTube TV is smarter than me. Netflix has worked better but limits you to shows that are available in the region where you're located. I started watching Shooter (the series, not the movie) while in Poland but couldn't finish the series when I got home because it wasn't available here.
  5. Interesting. I'll need to give that try. I also just remembered the Smoke Ring served in the Wonderland bar. I'll need to find that recipe also. I'll take bets now...will I be using the cocktail smoker 6 months from now or will it just be sitting in a cabinet with other forgotten things that seemed very cool at the beginning? 🤔
  6. Those white oval looking things on your scale are probably sensors. They measure how much resistance there is in a small electrical current flowing from one foot, through your body, to the other foot. Resistance is correlated to body fat. Don't know if it's any more accurate than just comparing weight vs. height but it sounds more impressive.
  7. I'd also go with the filet, but the veal looked pretty good. Better than your homebrew?
  8. I got a great dual purpose gift for father's day. I got a cocktail smoker and a butane torch. The cocktail smoker is made by a local firefighter on the island from old bourbon barrels. Several bars and restaurants use his product and he sells them at a few places here and on Etsy. The butane torch is used to burn the wood chips for the smoker but we also plan to use it to sear sous vide cooked meat, and probably try caramelizing crème brûlée. Of course, I christened the cocktail smoker by making one of Greg's special Old Fashioneds. The taste was great. Next up will be a smoked Manhattan. Anyone else know of any other smoked drinks worth trying? Fire Oaks Cocktail Smoker.mp4
  9. So my extended birthday/father's day weekend has almost come to a close. I didn't take many more food porn pics but we had a nice meal Friday night with mussels in wine sauce and a grilled shrimp caesar salad. Saturday was a different one of our favorite restaurants with Coquille St. Jaques...scallops in a great sauce served in a crispy tortilla over mashed potatoes with grilled veggies. VERY good. Sorry, but no pics from Friday or Saturday. Today, we tried a new catering place called Outer Banks Boil Company that also makes seafood boils to go. They fill a bucket with corn, red potatoes, andouille sausage and shrimp. They add whatever else you choose...snow crab, clams, mussels, or lobster tails. You take the bucket home, fill it with water, wine, beer...whatever liquid you want, and steam everything. Sounds and looks great but fell a little short. The snow crab and shrimp with difficult to get out of their shells and tasted mushy. Almost certainly not fresh. I feel like I've eaten more in the last 4 days than @John&LaLa did on his 3 day cruise with the ultimate dining plan. Time to diet and exercise for a few days.
  10. So sorry to hear about Owen. He must be more than pissed...not just about the game but other things that will be impacted by the break. I hope he heals quickly and with little pain. Maybe some good can come from it. Isn't he at the age where having a cast might attract girls? 😉
  11. We went out to dinner last night and stopped after in a little bar that we like for a drink. I have 2 things to share from that experience. First, the bartender is a huge Grateful Dead fan. She said that a lot of Deadheads are now following a kid named Billy Strings. I'd never heard of him and did some searching this morning. He's a pretty amazing bluegrass guitarist, and only 29. If you like that kind of music, definitely go listen to some of his stuff. There's a video of him playing with Tommy Emmanuel that is particularly impressive. Second, this old sign was hanging on the wall. It's not wrong.
  12. Sorry to hear about your DD. It's such a pain getting everything changed over to a new credit card number. The good news is that the credit card companies are good at handing this and it won't cost your daughter anything.
  13. American Masters | Brian Wilson: Long Promised Road | Season 36 | PBS Micheline watched it said that she didn't know how many problems Wilson had. She also said that he had a therapist for a while who mentally controlled/abused Wilson. I haven't see it yet.
  14. I looked into this several years ago but don't remember the details. Do you need to drive it a minimum number of miles, or just to one of the ports? How long does it take for the car to get shipped once you drop it off?
  15. This gave me a nasty flashback to the thong mankini discussion from a few years ago. Shiver.
  16. Thanks! I definitely want to hear the results of your Turtle Krawl testing. Looks delicious from the ingredients. Thanks so much!
  17. Thanks Bonnie. Good to hear that you pain is becoming more manageable. I hope the getting in and out of a car exercises will soon mean some road trips!
  18. We've talked about Mark Rober here before. He's the YouTube guy who made the squirrel obstacle course and the porch pirate glitter bomb videos (among many other cool videos). He's an engineer who has worked at NASA. He recently announced something called Crunch Labs. If you subscribe (about $25 per month) you will receive a toy that you build yourself. It includes a video from Mark talking about how to build the toy and what engineering goes into it. This would be a great gift for a child/grandchild/child at heart who is into this kind of thing. The target age is 8-12+. I would have loved it as a kid. More info: CrunchLabs Crunch Labs is also a real place where Mark makes all of his YouTube stuff. His latest video takes you on a tour through the lab. Ladies may appreciate the bathroom in the lab that automatically locks the door and won't let you out unless the toilet seat is lowered. 😁
  19. Thank you all again. Lenny...you're just slightly off. I'm 61, although (most days) I feel like I'm 47. Every now and then, after playing golf or doing too much physical work in the yard/house, my true age shines through.
