  1. A child under 16 does not need a photo ID.

    From the RCCL website:

U.S. citizens on closed-loop cruises (cruises that begin and end at the same port in the U.S.) will be able to enter or depart the country with proof of citizenship, such as a government-issued birth certificate and laminated government issued picture ID, denoting photo, name and date of birth. A U.S. citizen under the age of 16 will be able to present either an original, notorized or certified copy of his or her birth certificate, a Consular Report of Birth Abroad issues by DOS, or Certificate of Naturalization issued by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

That is for the cruise line. We were asked for photo ID for our 11 you DGD one year by CBP when we disembarked the ship. Thankfully I had a copy of her Army medical ID card that had her picture on it.

  2. Has anyone had this problem before? any advice from anyone who has done this recently

Not a big problem but a couple of years ago we took my DGD when she was 11 on Oasis. I had a notarized letter from her father (he has sole custody), the custody papers, her birth certificate and a copy of her medical ID card. We were never asked for anything getting on except for the birth certificate. When we got off the ship customs did ask for something with her picture on it and asked her a few questions. The next year we cruised with her again and no questions. We have since got her a passport.

  3. In regards to the roof in the solarium. We were on the Enchantment (same class of ship) and asked the captain why the roof was closed with such a beautiful day. He said that in the caribbean with the heat they leave it closed for the AC because people who like to relax in there complain of the heat. I don't know if this is the same on Vision.

We will be sailing on 5/22 also

  4. I have found that a lot of my weight gain on a cruise has been water weight. Last year DH and I were on 7 cruises (2 7 day and 5 4 day, the benefits of living in FLA ) and didn't gain any weight on them. I ate and drank what I wanted and I also did run on each cruise but I found that if I drink a glass of water with each drink I have that has helped me keep the lbs off.

  5. Thank you for your input. DH and I are sailing Vision on 5/22. I booked us in a JS guarantee and was given an OS . First time in 10 years of cruising that I have been upgraded. We are looking forward to it. We have only had a full suite one other time and that was on Enchantment when we got a really great deal on the RFS with another couple. We usually get a JS if the price is right or balcony. It is a holiday weekend and it looks like the only the left are interior cabins so it is probably going to be a little crowded but at least we will be cruising

  6. DS who is now 24 got our Diamond status when he was 16. It has not reverted back. He got married October 2013 and his wife got his status for their honeymoon cruise to the Med. She was platinum in her own right and earned diamond after their 12 day cruise. So when they got married she got his status and he got her points so now they are working on D+.

  7. Here's our story. DH and I live in S Florida so yes we have 4 ports we can go out of. We are not retired but DH has been with his job for over 25 years and has a position the gives him 6 weeks vacation a year. I also work full time but am able to take time off with out pay when I want. All four of our children are out of the house and we have no outstanding debt. DH is over 55 so we are able to get senior and FLA discounts. We choosing cruising as our vacations as it gets my husband away from work. DH does travel quite a bit for work so when I find a good deal we usually jump on it.

  8. We just had it on Liberty in December and Oasis on the Jan 11 sailing however I don't know if they changed receipes or where they buy it from but it was very disappointing. It used to be really, really good and the past 2 cruises is been just ok.

  9. Just off the Jan. 11th Oasis sailing. I noticed that people are lazy with the new towel policy. Since people are not accountable for their towels anymore, they left their used towels everywhere....saw them all over the ship and not just near a pool. We even saw people leaving them on an excursion boat.

It was even harder to get a chair at the pools with people just leaving them there and not picking up after themselves. Plus it looked very messy with piles of used towels laying around. At least with the other policy, people took their towels with them when leaving the pool area for the day, so they didn't get charged.

We are also just off the Jan 11 Oasis sailing and completely agree with you about the towels being left every where. The elevators, hallways, windjammer, etc. I did feel that the pool attendants where alot quicker to remove the towels from the chairs after the 30 minutes.

  10. So we leave on the Oasis on Saturday and a month ago I ordered the birthday celebration package that included flowers shaped like a cake. Yesterday I received a email stating that the flowers were not available and would they would just give me the decorations. Maybe there is a flower shortage just like there is a escargot shortage

  11. We use cash only. But it would have been my card. I put my name first when I signed us up. RCI seems to like the mail name first. I don't take it personal. I just wish I got my own paperwork to sign and my own Set Sail pass.

All you have to do is go back in to your documents and change that he only accepts responsibility for himself and not you on the cruise contract you will get your own because you will have to accept responsibility for your self. My husband and I always have separate set sail passes because his is a cash only account and my is on a credit card.

  12. It happened to us on the Oasis summer before last. I am a very light sleeper so I had heard them making the announcements in the hallways first and then came the 4 am announcement in the rooms. Then again the next night the something for the same person. When the Captain came on for his noon announcement on the 4th day of the cruise after the second incident he was very firm with parents to make sure to know where your kids are. He then went on to explain that a 16 year old had checked in with his parents and had left out of the cabin after check in. When they returned from the casino at 2 am the son was missing. Again this happened 2 nights in a row. The Captain then apologized to the entire ship and indicated that the family would not be permitted to leave their cabin for the rest of the cruise.

  13. I think making your cruise status as a way to define yourself is humorous and if that is the status you have to go with in life, well.. that is even more humorous. I don't even know if I have a C&A number. I'm only working on my 3rd cruise with RCI so until recently it has not mattered. Heck, the only reason I want gold status is that the lounge chair reserved area would be a good meeting place for my family. I see people who don't have two nickels to rub together book expensive suites, etc while others who have plenty of money book lower end vacations in general. Your diamond status to me says, you have cruised with Royal a lot and probably had a lot of fun. I love Royal so more power to you. Does it mean you are better than me or have any right to act like a pompous ass… NO. I will only take humor in this behavior.

I apologize if you took this as anything but humorous. We have been able to cruise a lot because we live in Florida and we do not have any kids at home. I do not see myself better than anyone else but do enjoy the perks that RCL has given me for being a repeat cruiser.

  14. Ok I have a confession. We have been on cruises were there seems to be alot of D/D+ wearing their pins to show people their status. DH and I never where our pins except if I decide to be obnoxious. We were just on the Liberty (12/12-12/16) and there was a problem at embarkation and they stopped everyone from going through security for a period of time. There was a couple about 5 people ahead of us yelling at everyone around including the security people and RCL employees. She had to let everyone know that they were diamond and should be let through before everyone else. After about 5 minutes of hearing this I asked her if I could go ahead of her because I was diamond plus and my status was higher than her's. I believe I saw smoke coming from her ears. On the same cruise we spent our time in the CL because our favorite concierge,Oana Popa, was there and there was a couple that every night they had to tell everyone their status and how important they were.
