what was the cost from rome airport to center of rome hotel?

We just returned from Italy, and flew in and out of Rome, non-stop on Alitalia.
We were not sure what to expect, but it was very good both times.
(The food wasn't great outbound, but was better heading home. Note that the website says no food service: not true! But we brought sandwiches and some other snacks both times. Note that Alitalia serves only Pepsi products, so we brought a few bottles of Coca Cola with us, purchased after passing through Security.)
We selected Premium Economy, and for the modest extra cost, it was the best decision.
Our routing didn't have aircraft with Premium Economy ever day, so we had to adjust our schedule by one day to get aircraft that did have that class of service.
Having a non-stop was also a very, very good decision.
Our next flight to Italy will probably be to Milan, so we'll try to fly through NY, to get a non-stop for the long haul flight. We should then have the opportunity to choose a different carrier, to compare.

I just booked non stop premium economy using miles.. was the prem. economy comfortable?

bank of america now has chip and pin cards!

Don't know if it's too late to book; but we stayed at Rialto Hotel next to Rialto Bridge. When you get off the water taxi; you walk into the front door of hotel. Plenty of shopping and dining there. About ten min walk to St. Marks Square; and they offer american breakfast with price. wife and I sailed on Splendour; we loved the ship and ports.
we just booked the rialto hotel.. did you take a private water taxi or use the public water taxi to the rialto stop?

If any of you have a Barclaycard Arrival you can now request a chip and pin card. I think it was made available VERY recently. I noticed a chip on the card image on my account page. You can request it through your online account but I did it over the phone. The agent assured me it was chip and pin not chip and signature. It's been renamed Arrival+.

thanks for that info.. just called them and they are sending me a new card with chip and pin.... for the arrival plus card.. the person I spoke with was very informed...

I know I would travel a lot more if I didn't have my little yorkie.. however, she is the love of my life and I hate leaving her... even tho I have friends who offer to take her I leave her with my vet.. he does not board a lot of dogs and there are no cages or crates.. she is in a "suite" which is a small room with mini couch, etc.. and there is an outdoor play area.. she loves the techs there and they love her.. and also I have peace of mind if she did get sick she is already at her vet..the suite life for her costs 45.00 per nite.. I understand some of the newer Petsmart stores have pet boarding and great accommodations and play area.. in fact, you get a report card for your dog, i.e. plays well with others, etc... lol

you can email the picture from your cell phone to your computer.....if you have an iphone at the bottom under the photo click on it and it will give you options for mail, message, etc...

this is the wrong forum... you would be better to post this on our scuba and snorkeling forum... and also the individual port forums... st.thomas has excellent snorkeling and I understand there are places on half moon cay that are ok for snorkeling..
-
coki or saphire for snorkeling.. ... they are the only 2 for snorkeling from shore unless you go to st. John

Rome
in Italy Ports
Yes sorry, heavy night . In my post two back in this thread reference to Siena should read Orvieto. The delightful hill town of Siena is of course a side trip from Firenza . Apology for the confusion .not far from orvieto is bagnoregio,,, however there is an uphill walkto the village as no cars are permitted ....it is an amazing place! I think you would need to take the train to orvieto and the bus to bagnoregio or rent a car.. its approx. 1 1/2 hours outside of rome.. we will be renting a car in October .. can't wait to go back again there might be buses now from rome that go there as it is becoming popular :(

We stayed at the del Senato in May 2011 and the location is terrific. If the roof bar is open, it's a nice spot to enjoy a drink. But the hotel is quite pricey. Rooms are small but well-kept. Not sure this is within the OP's budget but glad it fits yours.
I don't think our rooms are small.. I booked the suites...each has a private bedroom and separate living room..we are staying 2 nites and yes it is pricey but the location is good... within op's budget might be the quirinale or artimede.. both within walking distance to everything...
-
i just booked the albergo del senato.. a small hotel right across from the pantheon.. according to reviews it is within walking distance to trevi, colloseum, etc.. I booked because of location... i took a refundable rate because if the St. Regis decides to 'giveaway'rooms just before our dates I will move to the st. regis... right now I would have to give them my first born, second born, etc.. and that's just for breakfast.. breakfast is 100 euros pp..and I am paying for 5 of us...lol

Some of us have been cruising since before the DSC became a standard on most cruise lines. We used the envelopes and tipped those who served us. It seemed to be a workable system until we noticed that on the last night there were many empty seats in the dining rooms.
I did not like the DSC when it was first implemented, and refused to subscribe to it. I asked the service desk for a breakdown of the distribution of the "tip pool" and was furnished a list of who got what.
After a few more cruises, I got to know some of the crew pretty well, so asked some of them to level with me about the pool concept. They liked it and told me that the information the desk was putting out was accurate. They also liked the idea that it would help reduce the number of guests who stiffed them.
They convinced me, so I stopped bucking the new system and it became much simpler than trying to chase down the right people with envelopes.
I assume that some of the same people who disappeared on the last night of the cruise are the same who line up at the service desk with their real or imaginary issues in order to reduce or cancel the DSC.
If people are going to be cheap, they will find a way and all the arguments here won't change their stance.
At least, the crew will have a steadier source of income than with the old system unless the idea of cancelling the DSC spreads like some on these boards are trying to get done.
I got the same response from several waiters on rci. They prefer the auto tipping or dsc (called gratuities on rci)and I also asked them if they were charged anything by the cruise line for handling their account and they said no. But they are entitled to keep any extra and not report it. Like if I leave an extra 5 or10 in my stateroom for the steward. Why should he have to turn it in. And besides there is no way to police the extras.

Surprises me that they would go through all the fanfare in New York with the announcements for the Quantum only to move the ship to China.
especially with the new dining options and menues..... hmmm..they made such a big event having people to new york to try out the menus.. maybe should have held it in shanghai

ok... i did find rack of lamb and beef wellington in the Grande restaurant, which is the formal one... complimentary...

noticeable from a quick glance from the complimentary restaurants are rack of lamb, prime rib and lobster nite... or did I miss that somewhere?... these are the nites I have dined in the MDR... the rest I have eaten at giovannis, or chops..or portofinos

cunard makes class distinctions and ncl has private dining for suites

not that I could have made it, but I must be on the cutting room floor anyway :(.. I was originally asked to participate to ask questions but never got a reminder, etc.. only what I saw generically .. and I still haven't gotten a reminder..
-
interesting to see how this works out with the new dining program re timing for the shows... now the times of the shows are actually programmed to coincide with traditional dining times..
-
if you leave your balcony door open while you are getting ready in the evening you can hear the music in the park, whch was delightful.. one nite there was a bagpiper, another nite a guitarist, another nite a keyboard player and one nite a violinist...this is for central park balcony cabins
-
got the invite but unfortunately have other plans.. they didn't really give us much notice...so I will be checking back here to read the reports

Those are the good ones.

well, that's good!....and I guess I just made it on my booked cruise with the friends and family cert.. they are all getting 100 sbc...these were the F&F certificates they would give you with your NC cert...I mailed them into RCI directly and checked and they have been applied to the other bookings.. don't know if they are giving those out anymore with the NC..
