  1. 1) OP scheduled to sail out of San Juan, PR. Unless they live in San Juan, they have probably purchased airfare on non-refundable tickets. It's not like they can drive to another port w/in 1-200 miles

    2) Alternatively, the NCL Dawn is sailing on the SAME DAY. A cursory glance at April 2019 out of San Juan, PR shows the lowest price on the same ships on the same dates through out April are close enough.

    3) OP states they would be "paying approximately $2,000 more for similar rooms". Can you be more specific as to the kind of cabin on the Freedom of the Seas vs the NCL Dawn? Perhaps someone can give you some suggestions on how to bring that cost down, or change cabin class to make it still worth your while.

Sorry you had this happen, but it does happen.

  2. Not going to cuss you out :D :halo:

You may be able to simply change the name. If you booked Early Saver, you will be charged the 50.00 fee. If it's Super Saver or Pack n Go...completely non-refundable. So, with Carnival, it will depend on what rate/offer the cabin was booked under.

    Good luck!

  3. Not weird at all!

I do test runs in the month leading up my cruise, accounting for all sorts of variables like oversleeping my alarm, forgetting to pack, snowstorms, lost cruise documents, traffic on my planned route, and accidental creation of insidious matter inside the CERN Supercollider.

You know, the stuff any cruise traveler can run into!

I'm sorry, but this post wins the internet.

  4. If I was offered an opportunity and the opportunity was taken away because of someone else's mistake (which the OP stated it was NCL's) mistake I would be upset. He would not have been upset if he had never been told he had the opportunity to bid.

And to then be treated rudely after he was upset about jumping through their hoops...that was the icing on the cake for him. It was a waste of his time after getting his hopes up. Well, sometimes, you have to let the customer vent, repeat back to them what they are upset about, so they know you are listening, and commiserate a little bit. Then, say well the ship IS sold out, but I what I can do for you is "X".

Perhaps he was rude, but sometimes...you have to let people get it out. I personally was on the phone with Directv and was UPSET but I kept telling the agent I was not mad at them personally but mad about the situation. She let me get it out, and got the issue resolved. I appreciate that she did so.

  5. I used to work for Directv. At the time, I was shown that there is a "cone" of transmission from the satellite to the Earth, as the signal reaches down, much like a spotlight. The national feeds for the big 4, ABC, NBC, CBS and FOX are either West coast / Los Angeles affiliates, or the East Coast/New York affiliates. The "cone" for the affiliates is rather big. I had a customer call to complain his locals went out but all his others came in. turned out he lived in New York, but had gone down to Florida and and was going around on a private sailboat with a satellite dish, and had brought one of his boxes with him. It being authorized for New York affiliates, and still being in the cone, he was able to get them until he sailed further away from Miami...

For those who are mad at Carnival, meet them at the satellite in your private rocket/spaceship and help them re-position the satellite so the beam goes further south, ha!

  6. This discussion is about the auto gratuity which is currently added to the value of the SDP, and whether it should be charged per drink instead. There is no choice on the part of the customer.

Hey Keith, you're the DUDE! The ultra Dude!

So, in your honor, instead of being all salty about it, on my next 7 night NCL cruise, I will pay _just_ under 125.00 and enjoy all the Margaritas and other alcoholic drinks I want, that are 15.00 or less. I will enjoy it with the man of my dreams who thinks the UBP is gods gift to mankind and has complimented me on my shopping savvy so he can enjoy his favorite drink: beer.

And he will take me dancing at the clubs, and pay (shocker) just under 200.00 to add the dining package.

And I won't think of you. Not even once.
