  1. I would go to the bank before my cruise and get 4-$100 bills and 4-$20 bills and 4-$5 bills and once on the ship give everyone 1 of each.:D

Dying! I wonder if you were watching NBC last Saturday...They just re-ran that 1988 Saturday Night Live episode with Tom Hanks, and they had a spoof of a bank that only gave change, and they enumerated all the different ways they could break it down for you :D

  2. About to put the deposit down on my very first cruise!!! It's scary, mostly because it's a lot of money! I'll be taking my mom, and my (then) 9 year old son, on the Liberty on December 4....

I'm excited, but nervous. I'm 33, and I've never been on a "real" vacation!

    Breathe! You will survive! :D:D:D

Now to build your excitement, watch all the latest videos on youtube:

  3. So neighbor got it on a delta courier flight! Arriving at 11 am but not available until 12 noon. I am telling DH he should go separately and my son and I will go to the port. Thoughts? Will we make it?

Can he be at whatever office it is being delivered to so he can pick it up in person or is it being delivered to your hotel? If he has a cab ready and waiting...then presumably he should be able to get to the port by 1:00 pm.

Biting my nails for you...Happy sailing!!!!

  4. We have a 12 day Grand Med cruise booked for May 19th 2016. We have paid the cruise in full but final payment is not until the 1st of March. Due to a job opportunity that we can not turn down we may have to cancel the cruise in May and take a last minute cruise in January 2016. My question is since we have paid the cruise in full will NCL transfer that payment to the new cruise or will they have to refund us? Also will we lose the perks we got when we booked the original cruise or can we ask to keep the same reservation number and perks?

I don't think the perks can be transferred, as they are based on the ship and sail date. They may be able to transfer payment. Be sure to call them before 5:00 pm EST Monday-Friday to see if they can transfer the monies to a new cruise.

  5. Just finished the 12/5/15 cruise on the Pride of America, and I'm glad that I didn't pay for an internet package.

We have Verizon wireless, and were on the Verizon network 90% of the time. The only time off the network was for parts of the overnight sails. (interestingly, my tablet computer got Verizon service inside my cabin and all over the ship, but not in the bathroom in my cabin.

The rare occasion that I needed my laptop computer, I was able to use my Android phone as a Wi-Fi hotspot.

    Excellent information, thank you! :)

  6. So we are leaving in a few days for a Carnival Dream cruise and I went to dig out my family's birth certificates and cannot locate my daughter's. I began to freak out as I don't need extra stress this week.

I am sure the rules are not specific to CCL but I went on CCL website and it stated copies of state issued birth certificates with photo ID are acceptable. I didn't realize that. Thought you needed originals. She is 13 and has a school badge as ID.

Anyone have any issues with CCL questioning copies of birth certificates? If need be I can run to the county office and get a new one and I just hope it's a same day service type deal.

Find your county's online page, and they should give you information about the time frame to get the new one from walk-ins.

Usually, this is OK, and you should be OK. Be already packed...be already packed...

  7. Hello everyone, I am considering signing up last minute with a group of friends for the Norwegian Sky (yes, that one which was in the news a few days ago) which will leave on Dec 14. The only thing stopping me, is I don't have my passport. But I have read these forums and do see on the website that the NCL does allow birth certificate along with a state ID, but hospital ones are not allowed.

I am not too sure about the birth certificate I have, its the same one I used to get my current state ID card. Its for California, and says "State of California" and "Certificate of Live Birth". It also says it is from the state vital records. My only concern with it doesn't look like other California ones i googled, it doesn't have a fancy border, or a state seal or coat of arms, or watermark. It looks like it is photocopied, about 3/4 the size of a normal 8.5x11 paper, but it does have a hard to see raised seal, a signature by a doctor in red ink, and a rubber stamp in red dated to a few weeks after I was born. So I am assuming this is the original one my parents got from 1990's. If I can use this, this would be good to know.

I called NCL numerous times over the last few days, but don't get any clear answer, ranging from "any birth certificate is good" to "just pay now then we can sort that out later" to "I cannot say anything on the matter one way or the other" to "I can link you to our website" to "I don't know". The booking agent also doesn't have any clear answer. If anyone has gotten on with a similar birth certificate, let me know. Thanks a lot.

Sounds like you have your original California official birth certificate! My original is carved in stone, but I digress...:D

  8. Yes, every price increase is discussed at length here! :p To summarize:

    • At the beginning of March, they raised the gratuity on drinks and drink packages from 15% to 18%. But they didn't start making people pay any gratuities on the promotional UBP until June, I think, so that charge has always been 18%.
    • At the beginning of October, they raised the purchase price of the UBP from $54/day to $64/day, so that added $1.80/day to the gratuities.

So you must have booked your cruise initially sometime between June and September. But when you rebooked to get the current promo, you got all of the current terms and prices. Maybe the NCL agent should have mentioned the increase, but it is easy for details to be overlooked over the phone. Anyway, there would have been no way to avoid the higher charge, and hopefully you still came out ahead overall.

The difference was 12.60 per passenger for the old to new price of the service charge on the UDP. If he had purchased the 4 night dining package, he would have spent 74.00 + 13.32 per passenger. 74.00-12.60=61.40 oer passenger. If he had intended to get the 4 night dining package anyways, OP came out ahead $122.80 on promotions by making the switch. :)

  9. Please make sure to share the reply when you get one! Thanks! :)

The Pride of America is sailing in ONLY US waters, the only ship to do so. She has a second tax rate or line, based on Hawaii State taxes, best way I can describe it. Only ship that is affected by this.

    NOT a "fuel surcharge"

EDIT: OP your travel agent needs up-training! :p

  10. I just simply wear my Kilt and be done with it.

The maître-d of the Le Bistro on the NCL STAR brought my table a bottle of

wine - he was so impressed.

On cruises to Bermuda I have heard (read) that Bermuda Shorts are OK in all

restaurants - wouldn't want to offend anyone there - comments from those

that have cruised Bermuda ? Truth or Fiction or something out of the triangle ?

Amateur? No way' date=' if you wear a truly ugly pair of Bermudas:

But, only if you pair it with the proper golf beanie:

  11. We are going on the Carnival Freedom out of Galveston and will be flying into Houston.

That is one of the longest trips from Airport to cruise port. The other is flying into Orlando, Fl to sail out of Port Canaveral. It's about 50-70 miles from IAH to Galveston cruise port. If you have a bunch going, since it's around $70.00 per traveler round trip from the cruise line, you could research other "Galveston cruise port transportation" options.

I have not sailed out of Galveston myself. If other posters have had good success with outside companies, posting the information would great!

  12. Sorry if this has been asked ( I'm sure it has somewhere ) what is the best side of the ship when cruising the Mediterranean ??

If the route taken is clockwise predominantly along a coast' date=' then on the [b']LEFT[/b] hand side. If the route is counter-clockwise, then the RIGHT hand side.

If you are not really following a coastline, then get a guarantee cabin for less :p

EDIT: I don't know my right from my left! I fixed it above
