  1. Okay, here's one for people who have done it.... How much upper body strength do you need to be able to take part? Are you tied on, or do you have to hold yourself on the bar? In other words, will someone of my considerable tonnage struggle to do this activity? Should I start slimming and building my muscles??

  2. I am disloyal to companies, so I am probably "steerage" class with about 6 of them - but I think a lot of these comments are valid. If a person has stayed loyal and collected points to get a perk, then I defend their right to that perk. I can't comment about the type of music played, but I dont like loud music in lounges either (regardless of genre).

  3. I think its unlikely that I would wear one myself, but if it is early in the morning or late at night I think it's totally acceptable to wear going back and forward to a pool or hot tub. Generally, during daytime hours I prefer to be "dressed" !

However, I can see why guys might want to wear one. I suppose they are a lot easier than having to put a t-shirt and a pair of shorts on... Women have it easier in this regard. Our little chiffon cover up things can be thrown on over anything and will be dry in minutes.

  4. I am quite excited too about Superfly.... I didnt actually know what that was so went away and searched and am very happy! Well, I say I am happy - I only know one other Curtis Mayfield song - but I know I like it! I too am sick of Abba and YMCA.... I worked in a 70s themed nightclub and used to get so fed up heraring the same songs night after night.... you would never know they had a whole decade to choose from. I used to like Edwin Starr as well. CONTACT!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. I remember being on Ocean Village II, and they had aerial trapeze entertainers. They offered a lesson on the hoop and about 30 of us turned up - most people were aged about 70 - except me - but I was SO THE WORST!! I had to be pretty much lifted up due to having no upper body strength, then all the hanging upside down gave me the most amazing bruises on the back of my legs - about 12 inches long and 4inches wide which stayed for the rest of the holiday. I looked like I had been in an accident! Yet, I will remember being up on stage hanging off that hoop for the rest of my life!

  6. That's great! Thanks to you both for responding. I dont think I could face having to book in advance for if or when my gang wanted to go on a dodgem.... my head is all over the place trying to get to grips with DD!!!

I thought those big beds had "upcharge" written all over them... I don't mind that - at least people will not get up at dawn to put towels on them and then not be near them all day!

One time I won a spa day pass in an art auction... I didnt like it. It was all very well being in the VIP area and getting treated like Mariah Carey, but I felt like I was being "roped off" from all the fun. Not for me!

  7. Thanks for the review! It's nice to read something balanced. I think some people would complain about anything, but it's making people very worried about whether they are going to like their trip.

In fact, I will be reading your review again on a different computer. This machine just will not let me look at your pictures, I am just getting a red square in a white box!! darn!! I bet they are great as well! still, something to look forward to.

  8. Hi. Just wondeing if anybody knows, do you "book" your slot, or just turn up and queue? Is there a token that runs out, or timed slots in a group - like the i-fly seems to be? I have also spotted some large sunbeds underneath the North Star - do these belong to some "retreat" type place?

Hope someone is able to clarify. I have searched on both subjects but not found the answer... Many thanks!

  9. I think it is kind of sweet that people want to show their appreciation to their room stewards in a "personalised" way. This query has come up a lot on Cruise Critic and it does seem quite divisive!

However, a big part of me thinks that the personalised and thoughtful gift says more about how the giver wants to be thought of, rather than the actual "needs" of the recipient. This is totally understandable as well. I know from my own experience, I find it quite difficult having somebody clean up after me - I don't have a cleaner at home, nor do I have a lovely cheery happy person who always looks really pleased to see me every time I pass them when leaving my house. It's natural to want to show acknowledgement of their work.

But, I would think the best 2 ways of showing that are:-

    1) the old folding stuff, given matter of factly without any fuss at all, and;

    2) stop interrogating them about the family life they are away from, the hours/pay/conditions they work in - I would find this upsetting if people kept asking me about my pay etc.... esp if they were stopping me from getting on with my work and then my boss was going to shout at me for not getting finished on time.

I have cleaned hotel rooms in the summer when I was 15. The best guests are the ones that keep their own "stuff" tidy, and then leave me to get on with it.

  10. Luck has nothing to do with it.... it's about dropping a shedload of "green", and having expectations based on that. If room service has always been there as part of this initial charge, then - yes - people have every right to expect it to remain. I am tired of being called "lucky" because I have, or can afford to have X Y or Z.... I am NOT lucky. I work darned hard for every dime and am quite p*ssed off that people think complaints are not valid just because there are people in the world who would be grateful even for A B or C.

    rant over.

  11. Hi everyone

Great thread! If I am going to a beach and will be swimming, I bring a thin plastic carrier bag so I can then put my wet swimming costume and towel into that - thus keeping everything else in my beach bag nice and dry when I am returning to the ship.

  12. This is one thing about cruising I think needs to be changed. Am I the only one who feels this way?

My understanding is that it is changing. And even as someone who generally prefers mytime dining, I feel a bit saddened by this. Nobody is being forced to take an early or late sitting at a 10 top - but I think that option should remain for those who want it. I love meeting new people, and will talk to whoever I am with, whether it's whilst eating my meal or waiting for my elevator - my husband however, not so much! so, a mytime dining/shared table combo on alternate nights works for us.

So long as there are tables for 2 available, then those people who want to share should be able to continue doing this. I do think fixed dining will slowly disappear - certainly on the bigger ships.

  13. It is good to hear that some people got it! so maybe my hubby will too...

I am lucky, I have the consitution of an ox, and can eat and drink whatever is put in front of me! I usually do eat the whole lot as well, thats why I am "blessed" with this physique.
