When we did Geography at school it was mostly about rock formations and different types of lakes, maybe we learned about coastal erosion. Very little on where places are in the world. To my shame I thought Florida was on the west coast - near California or something.
I do often meet very intelligent Americans who know more about my country's history than I do.
But the location of the GRAND CANYON? Surely that's something you should just KNOW - isn't it one of the top things in the world?

Hi Cheapo Dad!
I cant tell you how happy I was to see that you are writing and sailing again. I was intrigued by that room price listing thing too - because I always seem to pick an expensive option without meaning to
Looking forward to reading about what you and your family get up to!

I know exactly what you are going through!! I am the only planner out of four "sets" of companions that I travel with and it does get tiring.
I have thought of something that is quite important though
Have a carry on bag with your swimming stuff so you can go to the pool and a, change of clothes for that night. Tell them the suitcase may not get to the room as early as they would like. They might have medication they need to keep on them too
Do they know about muster?

Yeah I am from the uk.

But that's the weird thing I don't understand joy.
Whatever way I look at it, person 3 and 4 are paying exactly the same as couple 1 and 2
2 balcony rooms each holding 2 people cost the same as 4 people in one room.

Royal are running The buy one get one half price offer With third and fourth people 25% Off. why would people squish a third and fourth person in a room. Would it not make more sense to book 2 cabins? Am I missing something. Drinks package included for first two in cabin only as well?
Does this offer suit anybody?

that was brilliant! thanks for posting.
what sort of camera did you use for your video taking?

Don't forget to post a pic!

I feel that as I am getting older I am getting more stressed out about everything.... I have always been the planner, and was happy to do so. But, these past few vacations I have felt anxious about. Mainly due to things out of my control - like TA's having me run around Singapore trying to get paperwork, and flight details not coming through until I was at the airport. It's no wonder I have been so wound up, come to think of it!
I love the people I travel with dearly, but to be honest if I left the decisions about what we are doing to them, we wouldn't do anything eg:-
Me - What do you want to do today?
Them - I don't mind, what do you want to do???
(an hour later, still no decision made)
Lately I have started saying "NO - I ASKED FIRST"
AAARRGGHHH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am Base Metal, waiting to turn Gold. But am always looking to make a quick buck.
Travelling on the Constipation of The Seas on the 3 day BeerBonanza. I will have with me for your "convenience", a good supply of Immodium and Depends. If you buy both, I will throw in some Movicol for you to disembark with. All payments accepted, including Seapasses (18% charge applies)
You can find me on Deck 1 in the Janitor's Mop Lounge.

I think what he was trying to say was:-
Why do people think Royal is a cut above what is arguably its nearest rival (NCL), when NCL seems to be happier to give the customer what they want?
Why is wearing shorts looked down upon in certain areas - and why are long trousers more acceptable in these areas. What is so offensive about short pants.?
The OP felt the service and food in the "paid" restaurants to be the same, despite the fact that he wore his short pants.
I would say that Royal and Norwegian have more in common than they have in differences, but Royal are trying to give people what they want too... not everyone wants "freestyle".
The shorts thing - well, I think there are very nice shorts that would look very dapper. But, if we were allowed to turn up in shorts you just KNOW that someone would turn up in something suitable for the sports hall!
As for wearing shorts to the "upcharge" restaurants - well I must admit - I always thought that odd... surely that is where the expectation to dress up should lie? But then again - they ain't gonna turn people away who have already paid for MDR + an upcharge entry fee. Don't forget these people might pay even more for a lobster and steak!! They can probably turn up in flippers and a hula skirt if they wanted!! haha!

if you went to a diamond lounge and had 3 drinks, are they the same three drinks that you had loaded onto your pass? I am a while off being a diamond, but why would it matter to the company where you have your 3 drinks?? I don't understand?
-
Agreed. Also, just because someone else might say it, why bring oneself to that level?
I read 3cats post as being to the effect of...
here we go, this is now where we get the old "Well don't cruise if you are poor then!" as responses.
I don't think 3cats was saying their own opinion?

I think if I said to St Peter "don't you know who I am?!" He would say YEAH too right I do, that's why you're not coming in!!!

I can hardly remember the last time I saw lobster that wasn't an upcharge item? Where can I get me one of these elusive crustaceans?
I often ask for a plate of steamed vegetables, and I have been known to have 2 appetizers if I can't decide what I want
I wouldn't personally be able to eat 2 entrees, but people that can... fill yer boots!

It won't be long till there is a charge for the flow rider and the carousel on the boardwalks...
People should just book one slot, and if they don't go then tough, they have missed their go. That would solve multiple bookings wouldn't it

I actually hate it when people ask me what my status is...
And it's something I wouldn't ever mention myself.

Enjoying your review very much! Keep it coming!

I know each to their own and all that sort of thing....., but I can't imagine me EVER spending $700 on what is really a beach hut for the day.
That's a month's rent on an apartment where I live!

Throw your hands in the air if you's a true cruise rater.....

The time you book for mtd does not matter. There are 2 lines at reception. 1 for those with mtd printed on their cabin card and 1 for those without.
I saw a guy came to reception and said, Excuse me I have book 8 pm for 12 persons. The girl told him these people have booking for 8 pm also and told him to get to the back of the line.
I hate to see this happen though. It hasn't happened to me - yet.
All you know is you turn up on time 8pm booking and see a queue. That queue might be people who haven't booked? - or they might be there early for an 8.15 booking So, should the person stand at the back and wait and wait until they get to the front, and then be late for their own booking. Sometimes, it's difficult to know what to do for the best.
I know there are separate queues - but I have also seen people in the wrong queue!

Watching a show now and they are selling deluxe all inclusive royal from Southampton. I think they have gone up in price quite a bit.

I am very confused as to how this whole "personal preference" exemption works. Package sharers will just claim this exemption - and carry on sharing -won't they???
How can you "prove" a personal preference. Will they kick such people off the ship if they have then bought themselves a drink? Will their card be marked so they physically can't? Will all their friends be monitored so they aren't buying for them??

I have been in that casino...... I won €7.50. Kept the voucher as a souvenir. I bet they make a fortune out of idiots like me doing that
Thoughts on Spain & France cruise?

For Cherbourg - If time permitted, I would really like to go and see one of those D Day Landing beaches. I don't have anyone that took part in these landings but would want to pay my respects to those that did. For something a bit closer to the port, I believe there is a great museum with a submarine you can go in. I always like that sort of thing.
Le Havre - isn't this the port for Paris. Funny, I have never had the smallest desire to go there though.
Sometimes the places you expect the least from though turns out to the be the one you remember. We stopped one time at a place called Toulon. It was a Sunday, and I wasn't holding out much hope. Well, it was an absolute GEM of a place. Conversely, I had wanted to go to Florence for years, but I hated it once I was there.
