  1. I am always concerned to read about people who choose to travel without insurance I feel $1600 is not "that" much, but enough that I hope it proves to be a life lesson

I have seen things in my British newspapers where people have been in USA and been involved in big accidents where there the hospital fees have been in the hundreds of thousands... we sure take our own NHS for granted here!

    Is vertigo bad?

  2. i love jodi picoult. and for lighter reading i always enjoy marian keyes.

    happy cruising!

I have just finished Small Great Things. What a corker of a book! I think I grew as a person as a result of reading it, and I know it will stay with me.

Marian Keyes - love her earlier work such as Rachels Holiday and Watermelon. Think maybe she has gone off a bit lately though?

For those who like detective type things - Dennis Lehane's Kenzie and Gennaro series are very enjoyable.

  3. We were just on the Mariner of the Seas last week, and I would be hard pushed to pick a favourite. Those chefs on that ship deserve stars on their hats. We ordered items that we have had countless times on countless other ships - eg crab cakes, scallops, steak diane etc............. and can say that every single (comparable) plate of food was vastly superior to what we had before in terms of presentation, amount, and taste.

Off topic slightly I know, but the left side of the menu was Asian inspired, and I would often pick from that. Everything was incredibly tasty and fresh. Also, it is good to try things you have never had before. Pudding made with noodles??? Delicious! Favourites are always great, but when you try something new, you may just get a new favourite!

  4. Hi everyone

    Good news..................... TICKETS ARE HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Postie brought them this morning. Well, except for the F1 tickets. We have to go and collect them ourselves on the race day. But that's okay. That's no biggie.

I want Lewis Hamilton to win of course, but will really be watching Daniel Ricciardo and the Force India gruesome twosome in the Pepto Bismol pink.

So relieved, I can't tell you how much!

  5. Thanks everyone for your responses. It's actually a comfort to me that I am not worrying over nothing!

Generally I organise our cruises, and I certainly would not have waited this long before I started tormenting the agent - mainly because for one thing I would want to know what sort of plane I was on to Singapore, and whether it was possible to buy an aisle seat.

My husband has booked this one - and while vacations are my number one priority, for my husband- not so much!! My work stops when holiday organising is going on. His work is what pays for it, hence I didn't want to pester him too much asking my questions.

This is our fourth cruise this year, the first two had documents that came in the post. The last one was a pdf document which was much more suitable.

Again, many thanks to everybody out there, particularly John Bull. we will be phoning ABTA if we don't get this sorted ASAP.

I will of course be back with an update!

  6. Agree. You don't need printed tickets for anything. You take your airline confirmation number (PNR), and check in for your flights on line. No paper tickets. You can go to your reservation on the cruiseline and complete all necessary forms online. You just show your necessary travel documents (such as your passport) when checking in at the cruise ship.

I don't know what you are worrying about.

We don't have a confirmation number. We have nothing

  7. The best thing about sharing a table is meeting new people

Conversely, the worst thing about sharing a table is meeting new people!

I know enough about US politics to know that I know nothing, so I keep my mouth shut about that! yet I am always amazed that people know so much about Britain

Sharing a table on the my time dining is the best because you don't spend the fortnight with the same people and you can meet a new gang every night if you wanted to! Just don't speak to me at breakfast ... it ain't pretty!

  8. Yes, we emailed a couple of weeks back , then my husband phoned on Friday just gone and they promised they would post them that day. Nothing yet. I phoned them about 2 hours ago to be told their franking machine was broken!! So they didn't post anything.. even though my husband was quite insistent that they needed to sort this quickly. They didn't even phone us back. We have no flight tickets no cruise paperwork, no formula 1 tickets. Nada!

  9. Hi folks

I have looked at the Review pages but there's nothing there, so am wondering if anyone here can advise

I am interested in the trip Royal offer in Phuket that takes you to see elephants. There is hardly any information on their own site about it either.

Has anyone been on this excursion? Is it a nice one? I don't want to ride, touch, bathe with the elephants or anything like that. But I don't want to book it and then find out that it is one of those places.

Hope someone can shed some light. thanks.

  10. We planned to buy the Deluxe beverage package on board but have just had discount offer on it. Offer is £33.88pp which is what the package has been since we booked months ago. Don't understand that. It does say that the discount off the price will be taken down tomorrow and I am now concerned that the price will go up. Any suggestions. There is a phone number but don't really want to be calling US. Thanks

I thought it was only the Refreshment pack that had the discount. I tried to buy a discounted Deluxe and was told it wasn't part of the deal?

  11. When you go to a land based restaurant or stay in a land based hotel that $500 that you don't have to pay in "tips" you will have paid upfront in the fact that your room is $XX a night and your meals are $XX a night, and then you have to pay $XX for your entertainment and all these separate charges will have a service charge "built in"

You say you worked for 3 years to pay for this vacation??? How would you feel if you were relying on people giving you "tips", who then decided they weren't going to pay you because they had already paid enough for your company's product.

    I HATE THIS SO MUCH.

All work is honourable, and all people deserve their pay. If they are rubbish, then that is a management issue and it is not up to us as customers to withhold their wages.

    Pay is not Tips.

A tip is for "above and beyond". Pay is a right.
