Today is my mom's 94th birthday...she started it off like she does every Friday morning...heading to the gym at 5:30 am and she was greeted with a HUGE birthday celebration.  She does not realize what an inspiration she is to others.  She even got a pink tiara to wear!

While the artichoke was steaming I decided to paint the trim on my front door... Of course, the water ended up running out while I was painting, and I burned the pan. I cleaned it out and finished the artichoke, which turned out fine. I also bought some catfish fillets for dinner and cooked them up in the toaster oven, and those are gone now already. It's seven o'clock and I've already chugged four beers, so I guess that my non drinking night is toast.

Artichoke looks good!  the first house my parents ever bought was a tract home south of San Francisco....in what was fields of artichokes. Here in NC people sell their farms...and houses are built where tobacco fields were....how did you cook the catfish in the air fryer?...I'm trying to eat more fish...but most fish I cook I don't like...I do like fried catfish though...but have never cooked it.

Things aren't looking too good with "mom"... They're setting up a hospice at home for her, and she's probably only got days to go... No more of our daytime adventures or fancy dinners out. I'm going to miss her sassy mouth, as she's a lot like me in that respect. She definitely tells it like it is, and never holds her tongue for anything... Looks like I'm going to be spending a lot more time here in the store, which sometimes makes the day seem to last forever. She's probably going to be missed by me most of all... I don't even know what else to say...

    😞

So sorry Sid…hard times lately…a blessing she will have hospice though.  Hugs.

    Another Monday TRIBE!

I want to THANK all TRIBE members who offered insurance information, very helpful and gives me plenty to research for sure.

So much to consider as we biologically progress in life.....I hit another milestone later this week, I keep telling myself age is just a number mentally I still feel 49, ha ha, until the aches set in again.

Have a great day...here in New England we are ready for this heat wave to END, we feel like prisoners in our AC home!

It's finally going to drop below 70...here in the middle of NC...later this week...even though I have A/C...it's old...I keep it at 76 and use fans...don't want it dying on me....and haven't been out much...just cannot deal with the heat anymore!

  11. In regards to insurance...we have always just gotten the ships insurance...main thing imho...is if you would need to be flown back to the states...We were in MVA in ST. Thomas and one friend we were traveling with was hurt pretty bad....I remember the wife being told that before they could order the plane to come...they had to verify she had insurance...or she would need to write a check for 10,000...this was probably 20 years ago so would probably be double now if not more...he had surgery in St. Thomas and they flew him and her out that night...we spent night in St. Thomas....and flew home the next day...the port authority people were very good to get us to hotel..travel agent to get plane tickets...airport....we had to pay for everything but were reimbursed...this was Carnival's insurance.  Last few cruises with Hal...we just got the Platinum which I think allows you to cancel for any reason up to time of the cruise..but I've traveled so little in the past three years not sure.  Whatever you get...I think insurance is important!!  Another thing...I always carry the port authority or emergency numbers that are usually listed in the daily thing.....

UFC is MMA (Mixed Martial Arts). It's boxing, wrestling, jujitsu...These fighters have to train in everything. Perez has a purple belt in Brazilian Jujitsu.  Nunes has a black belt in Brazilian Jujitsu and a brown belt in Judo.

The times in the video where Perez had a chance..there are a few times on the ground where she had Nunes' arm tied up. That's an armbar where the arm bends in wrong direction. If they are able to hold it the other fighter is forced to tap out of the fight before their arm gets broken. Women seem to have more flexible arms than men though.

Thanks…learned something today…didn’t Anthony bourdain’s wife do something similar..but maybe not in a ring?

I'm so relieved to finally have a decent steak at home for the first time in quite a while... Not dry aged, not prime... Just a regular 'ol piece of angus beef from Whole Foods. I was beginning to think that I'd lost my touch, but this gives me some kind of hope for the future.

Steak looks great....I think sometimes a good steak is just the luck of the draw....unless you spring for Prime....I've gotten good steaks at food lion...and not so good at other more expensive places....There's a Butcher/Restaurant  Kau...in Greensboro that sells Prime beef...its really good...but really expensive!
