  1. My kids are 9 & 7 so doesn't affect me. NCL has been saying they are going to make an under 3 nursery all the way back to April 2012 when Splash Academy changed the minimum age to 3. I posted about it in my review after talking to the mgr of kids programming on board the Jewel.

Given the way things are going with NCL and the fact that it's been 3 years since they initally spoke of this I wouldn't hold my breath....

  2. Please do not kill the messenger but I just emailed Frank Delrio and he said this is not true..so take it however you want..he has never lied to me!

Like I said before... Unless you are employed in some official PR capacity for NCL I highly highly doubt DelFeeo is giving insider info to you to pass along here on CC.

  3. Yes, unfortunately, I am already having to kind of "hang out" on the NCL forums to keep up on stuff.....and there is a thread that says starting May 1st they will be charging for Room Service, any time of day. Either $4.95 or $7.95. Aaaargh!

I mean, don't get me wrong -- We will have a fun cruise, but it is as if the things we LOVE about cruising are being screwed around with.

That's my problem too... cruising as we have known it is gone..

NCL now charges an addt'l 18% on specialty dining and room service plus any purchases such as Carlo's Bakery, cigars, coffee shop etc.

New room service charge, diluted platinum perks, Asian restaurant is now free but they changed the menu, Cagney's is rumored to go ala carte... raised the daily service charge.

Too much to keep up with thanks the DelRio and his crew :(

  4. Eyes wide open for NCL...

Lots and lots of changes, upcharges, new fees and service cuts...

Even if you read your T&C things are subject to change at the drop of the hat-sometimes even mid-cruise....

As a platinum NCL'er I've cancelled my next 2 cruises and am looking to book w/ CCL or RCCL

  5. We did this last Sept. We bought the tickets to take the little train over. It's owned by the man who owns Oleander at the Dockyard. he told us it wasn't working and gave us a ride over in his van. He asked us when we wanted to return and he would come back for us and gave us his cell# also.

The area is the old 9 beaches property which is no longe rin business. The place was a ghost town when we got there but the man from Oleander called the owner of SurfSUP and he came over and opened up his shop. He was very nice, helpful and friendly.

The beach is small and others did eventually show up including a lady who lives on the island that we talked to for a while. The was some type of concession stand there but it wasn't open. The SUP guy sells waters.

We had a very nice peaceful relaxing time. Saw lots of turtles, fish and even an octopus- I had also brought my snorkel mask and there was a lot to see off of the right side by some rocks.

We plan to return this Sept.

I have some pictures but can't seem to link them here from FB

  6. Good beach but a long trip from the Dockyard. The same can be said about Clearwater Beach.

Definitely a long way but so much nicer than Snorkel Park if calm water is what they were asking about

  7. I usually start with the farthest away the first day then move closer to the dockyard each day.

Last year we took the 9:30 ferry to St George- walked around to see a few sights (St Peter's, unfinished church, Ordanace Island, Alexandra Battery) then spent the afternoon at Clearwater Beach

Next day we took the ferry back to St George and spent the morning at Tobacco Bay then toured Fort St Catherine's you can then take bus into Hamilton (it's about 45-60 min ride) to get a good view of the island, walk around there for a bit then take ferry back to Dockyard

We had done Swizzle Inn and Crystal Caves on a previous visit but they are located between St George and Hamilton (a little closer to St George)

Last day we went to Daniel's Head Beach in the morning and rented stand-up paddleboards (you can go to Horseshoe Bay Beach instead) then walked around the Dockyards and shopped before getting back onboard to leave :(

This year we are going to try to visit Gibbs Lighthouse, do afternoon tea and go to the Nature Preserve

  8. It used to be on a sea day and was called Family Make your Own Pizza or something like that. It was a small ball of dough the kids shaped, they gave you a spoon of sauce a handful of cheese then you could chose mushrooms, peppers, onion and/or pepperoni. They took them in the back cooked them and then brought them out to you.

It was free and held in the Garden Cafe.

I did not notice it on the Sun in Feb but it used to be listed in the main dailies.

  9. Last year as we were getting off the St George ferry we talked to a couple who crashed less than an hour after renting the scooter. We also met a young lady who had a broken arm and leg from a crash the previous day...

Unless you are a skilled motorcycle driver and are comfortable driving on the opposite side of the road, probably best to avoid the scooters.

  10. You can book private tour such as Byways Tours, Ashley Harris or Colin Jennings or you can just walk off the ship and hire a blue flag taxi.

Not sure on current rates- it used to be $40/hr 1-4 people… (3hr min)

Then you can tell the driver what you are interested in and for how long and they will take you wherever...

  11. No, the cruise lines do not always have the correct information. You can search many travel blogs and consumer sites to find instances where travelers run into trouble when trusting a site or person other than a government official.

I've quoted the correct info from CBP in regards to cruising and the WHTI and I've also quoted from HAL's website ….

I know that phone reps often are known to give incorrect info and/or folks interpret things the way they want to hear it….

  12. . But that does not tell us if they can enter Bermuda.

They wouldn't let you/him board. There is no such thing as getting on the ship w/o proper documentation and just not getting off in a port.

Based on HAL's website you should be fine

Children: U.S. citizen children under the age of 16 traveling on a closed-loop cruise (a cruise in the Western Hemisphere which originates and ends in the same U.S. port) will be able to present their government issued birth certificate or other proof of U.S. citizenship, such as a naturalization certificate or citizenship card to sail. Birth certificates can be an original, photocopy or certified original.

It is recommended that all minors have their own passport if traveling with only one adult to ensure they can all stay together if there is an emergency and they have to disembark early to fly home (including on Closed Loop voyages).

NOTE: If you are not the parent or Legal Guardian of any minor child traveling with you, you must present an original letter signed by at least one of the child’s parents. The letter from the child’s parent must provide contact information and authorize the traveling adult to take the child on the specific cruise.

  13. Here's the official answer from CBP:

    Traveling by Sea

How will the new requirements affect passengers going on cruises?

U.S. citizens who board a cruise ship at a port within the United States, travel only within the Western Hemisphere, and return to the same U.S. port on the same ship(referred to as a “closed loop” cruise), may present a government issued photo identification, along with proof of citizenship (an original or copy of his or her birth certificate, a Consular report of Birth Abroad, or a Certificate of Naturalization).

Please be aware that you may still be required to present a passport to enter the countries your cruise ship is visiting. Check with your cruise line to ensure you have the appropriate documents.

Since you don't state your cruiseline I would check with them if they require a passport per their rules over and above CBP.
