  1. I was wondering if they have a program like NCL, where you could purchase casino credit before you board. I've always brought cash for the casino, but when I was on an NCL cruise, they let you buy credit for the casino before you board. Thought I would put some on a cc and get the points/miles.

  2. Our ship will be in Nassau until midnight. We were planning on going over to Atlantis for a couple of hours after dinner. Are there taxis available around 10pm outside Atlantis? Don't want to risk having a problem getting back to the ship.

  3. My first cruise was in the early 70's on Home Lines Oceanic. Myself and 2 of my friends shared a very small cabin with a porthole, there wasn't even a chair in the cabin. I can't remember exactly what we paid, but it was more than 3 sailing in a cabin today. There was nothing to do at night, except dancing in one lounge. The pool deck didn't even have lounge chairs, There were mats that were placed on the deck, and a couple of regular chairs around the edge of the deck.

Every night was formal, I remember bringing 7 gowns. I still can't figure out where 3 girls put all the clothes and luggage in that small cabin.

We had a great time, even though I'm sure we were the youngest on the ship. One of the things I love about cruising today, besides the great value, is all the entertainment at night on the ships. 40 years ago that didn't exist.

  4. Never go. Grew up in the 70's and couldn't handle disco then. Why would I start now? A "discussion" my wife and I have on cruises :)...

Given that the 70's produced, among others:

    Dark Side of the Moon

Darkness on the Edge of Town

    Sticky Fingers

    Exile on Main Street

    Rumors

    London Calling

    The Wall

    Houses of the Holy

    Greetings from Asbury Park

The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust

    Wish You Were Here

    Quadraphenia

    Born to Run

    among others.

Last year on our 12 day on Jewell to Saint Petersburg, they did a British Invasion party, and it was a blast! But PLEASE, no more Village People!

I would love to hear some of that music on a cruise. The village people thing is so old, they don't even do it at weddings anymore.

It amazes me how rock groups from the late 60's and 70's still sell out live concerts and for outrageous prices in hours, and it's not just baby boomers there. Most of the audience is much younger.

  5. Thanks for all the replys. This will be my 6th time out of Bayonne, and I never had a problem. In all my cruises once my number was called, I was off the ship in a couple of minutes, on the shuttle and through customs in less than 20 minutes. This is the first time as Emerald, and I was just wondering if you get off a little earlier.

I must be very lucky, because I never had a wait to get on the ship either. I have always arrived at the port between 11:30 and 1:00 and it's never been more than 30 minutes from when I enter the port on Route 440 until I'm on the ship.

  6. Also keep checking your cruise for resident rates or senior rates. I book at least a year out, and have always found resident or senor rates to lower my original price. You can get price adjustments up until the final payment date. I also get email alerts for my cruises from a cruise price drop tracker website, that I'm not allowed to mention here. Just do a search.

  7. Does anyone know what a taxi costs for 3 or 4 people to the Melia? Also how long does it take to get there? We don't dock until 2pm, so I'm hoping to get at least 3 hours to spend at the resort. I'm not worried about getting back to the ship, I have until midnight.

  8. Also, this excursion says it lasts about 2.5 hours. Other posts say that once the buses are full they leave and don't return. Does anyone remember about how late the buses remain there in the afternoon? For example, our ship (Enchantment, Jan 10th) doesn't arrive in Nassau until noon, and it says this excursion begins at noon, which knowing how long it takes passengers to get off the ship when it docks, the arrival time of the ship, and the beginning time for this excursion can't be exact? I've always been on ships that arrived into Nassau much earlier in the morning, so not arriving until noon won't give long (while still light) to enjoy Atlantis. Thanks for any insight!

The last time I was there they ran until 6, when the waterpark closed, but we were on the Aquadventure tour that included the waterparks. It's not a big deal to take a taxi back to the ship, I think it was only $4 per person. Just make sure you leave with enough time to get back before the ship sails.

The shuttles are hard to miss. They all lined up right where they left you off.

  9. I may be mistaken but I think the ships shops open up in the evening in Nassau, I know the casino is open.

I never knew the casino was open while docked in Nassau. Any other port I've been to, the casino was closed until about an hour after we left. Very glad to here this, my next cruise doesn't leave Nassau until midnight.

  10. I don't know if you can still do it, but last year when I went, after getting off the shuttle (mini bus) we just took off on our own. We didn't stay with the group, because I had been there a few times before on land based vacations.

As long as you have the wrist band you can tour on your own. The shuttles were lined up to go back, at the same place they let you off. They left as soon as it was filled.

I also know of some people that as soon as they got their wrist bands, they didn't wait for the group and go on the shuttles. They went ahead and took taxis. They arrived about a half hour before the group that went on the shuttles. They did take the shuttles back to the ship.
