  1. WOW, thanks for letting us know. :)

I booked a JS for 9/23/12 last September on board, with the senior discount I'm saving about $550 from when I originally booked. I also just booked a JS for 9/22/13. The regular price right now is only $200 more than I'm paying for 9/23/12 with the senior discount. I'm hoping when its gets closer to the the sailing they will offer a senior discount like this years, and I got my cabin on the hump for both sailings.

  2. Great senior rate for EOS 7 night to Bermuda for September and October 2012.

    These are for 9/23/12

    Interior Solo from $643

    Promenade Solo from $783

    Outside $864

    Balcony from $1214

Plus there are C & A savings certificates.

Balcony $125 off for Gold C&A

    Outside $125 off for Gold

    Inside $65 off for Gold

The higher C&A you are the more the discount.

  3. NO, Adult only

    Hi Dick,

I just wanted to let you know the Explorer cruise that you canceled (9/23/12)

has a great senior rate. Linda and I each had a JS that we booked on the cruise last September. There is a senior rate for balconies so we both downgraded to D1 aft cabins next to each other on deck 10, and saved $1100.

It would be great to see you on a reunion cruise. Say hi to Mari.

  4. Were your Bermuda cruises on Royal?? We went to Bermuda last May and no one checked our bags going off or back on the ship! We just had to put our beachbags thru the xray machine like at all the other islands.

I was on the Explorer both times. September 2010 and September 2011.

I was there for two days on both cruises. They were there for both days, checking going off the ship and getting back on. It wasn't RCI Security checking going off the ship, there were people from Bermuda sitting at a table after you got off. Going back on it was RCI security checking with the xray.

  5. Really??? They checked your bags getting off the ship??? I never heard of that.......is that something new that they're doing? I've been on a lot of cruises and never saw anyone check bags on the way off a ship! LOL

I'm guilty of taking food off the ship in the past too. Sometimes we'll take a few hard rolls or a box of cereal so we can feed the fish when we're going snorkeling.........LOL

I had a bag of candy and a couple of cookies. They didn't say anything about them.

I think they are concerned with fruits and any kind of meats/sandwiches.

They were taking them from the passengers. I guess every port is different. I was on two cruises to Bermuda and they were checking both times.

  6. Oh also I did want to reply to the question about removing food from the ship.... Yes they do say you cannot take food with you, but we broke the rule at every port. What we did was take a bunch of zip lock bags in our luggage (I'm not cheap, but we had a couple of excursions that did not provide time to dine and ran past lunch hour). So we went to the wind jammer the night before, grabbed a plate of sandwiches fruit or bagels and took them back to the room and just stuffed them in our beach bags as security does not inspect your bags coming off the ship.

    Just a helpful tip!

Also for sneaking booze on, I'm not going to say I did this, which I may have, but we bought 4 bottles of rum at the bacardi factory and hid one under towels in our beach bag. Security saw we had bottles and directed us to the booze check in station where we conviniently only gave them 3 bottles, thus leaving one to take back to the room :D

When I was in Bermuda, they were checking all bags, including beach bags, when leaving the ship for food. In the morning I was going to the dockyard to shop with just my purse, and they even checked that.

  7. I'm looking to book a JS on Explorer of the Seas. There is a cabin (1328) available on the hump and it is next to friends. The only problem is it's under the ladies room on deck 11 outside the Windjammer and Portofino's. The toilets on the ship are so loud when they flush, I'm afraid all I'll hear day and night is a toilet flushing. Anyone have any experience with staying in a cabin under public restrooms?

  8. From Royal Caribbean's website regarding their CruiseCare Vacation Protection Plan, which also addresses payment of the plan and effective date:

Note: The plan cost is fully refundable if you are canceling outside of Royal Caribbean International's published penalty period.

gpnfish, HAL's Protection Plan states that payment for the plan is due at the time of purchase and it is non-refundable.

I am planning to book a cruise on Explorer next week. If I understand this correctly, if I pay my deposit and pay for the insurance when I book, and i need to cancel before final payment. I will get my deposit and insurance costs refunded.

  9. I thought it was covered from the time I booked also. It is listed on your vacation summary in the total charges. My savings certificate for $125.00 looks like it was also applied to the insurance. So how does that work? Do I get half coverage? They really need to have some kind of notice on your vacation summary that the insurance isn't in effect until paid in full, and not list it on your vacation summary until you actually pay for it.
