  1. I would go to the hostess stand on the first night and explain the situation.  They will mark your account with your preferences and you should be good to go from there.  I know that they push the app check-in and it is convenient, but it appears that you have unique circumstances and requirements.  I'm sure they will do everything they can to make your wife's experience great.

What about longer cruises and what about cases of water?

We got a 30 day in the fall, I’m trying to figure out some of the logistics.

As long as your water is in cans or cartons, then you can bring water. No bottles allowed. You can order bottles of water to be delivered to your stateroom. The price is surprisingly not bad.

    ^^ Agreed.

The rules at the port of embarkation are the same regardless of the length of the cruise; however, one thing most people aren't aware of is that you can carry on a 12 pack per person at each port, as well as at embarkation.

  3. So, yes, I'm cheap.  We purchased some liquor on one of our last cruises that we had to fly home (we planned to do so).  I purchased some bubble wrap from Dollar Tree and ordered some extra-large ziplock bags from Amazon (making sure they were big enough).  Wrapped those bottles and put into the baggies and buried those bottles in the suitcases.  No issues and not a huge expense or bother.

  4. The typical ES rules are that you will incur a penalty equal to the deposit; however, all of that except $50 pp will be available to you in the form of a FCC.  You will definiately need to contact Carnival to make sure that is what your ES rate rules are and I would also request to roll that FCC (or possibly the full amount) over to your next cruise.

Do you mind telling me where and which backpack you purchased for your cpap? Thanks!

I really don't know the brand or style, but he bought it on Amazon.  Sorry, he was independent on this one 🙂

It’s only going from the drop off to the room. I’m fine with that risk.

This!! ⬇️⬇️⬇️ I, personally, do not choose to take unnecessary risks with my health and life, and I do not encourage others to do so.  You do you.

    Hi

The main issue with putting anything of value in your checked luggage is that on occasion they do get lost. I have been on many cruises and it has never happened to me, so I guess you are right, it is low risk, but it does happen. You just have to read these forums. Even if only delayed, for a day or two, it wouldn't be something I would chance, considering the bag and equipment only weighs 5 lbs. at most.

I personally have seen baggage being transported onto the ship in one of their large bins by a fork truck that hit something on the ground with a bag bouncing out of the top onto the asphalt. I have read on this site about someone who had clothing ruined because someone had a liquid that leaked from their bag into bags underneath theirs, while in those same transport bins.

I wouldn't put anything that I thought I needed or cared about losing in a checked bag, either getting on or off the ship.

Is it possible to fit it in the checked bag and fit less bulky items in a carry on? You should keep checking for FTTF a couple times a day. Someone may cancel. I know my first cruise I didn't realize that I only had to pay for 1 per cabin. So had to cancel one of them at some point.

Never, never, never put medical equipment, supplies, or medications in a checked bag!

If you bring a corked bottle, do they have a cork screw you can use in your stateroom?  Or do you need to bring it?  Or pay a corkage fee?

Corkage fee is charged if you bring your bottle into the MDR or speciality restaurant.  It is not a fee for uncorking the bottle, it is a surcharge for bringing your own wine.

You can bring a corkscrew or ask your room steward for one.

Do you just get your distilled water on board? I know they have it.   I can totally see my mom wanting to carry a gallon on, but I'm paying for this trip, and am in it for convenience!

Yes, get it on board.  Order is ahead of time (you have to call, can't order online).  It's like $4-5 and totally worth it!  But order ahead.  We had one cruise where we tried to order once we were on and they had run out.

Usually, I pack very carefully for boarding, and almost all goes with the porters except a tote bag with what I really need (meds, book, change of underpants, phone for camera, ID...).  This is the first time I've thought about an extra thing to lug.  Maybe my mom won't even think it's a big deal.  This is just all about making her life simple and smooth!

DH and I both have cpaps.  He chose to use the case that it came with until recently when he purchased a backpack specifically made for that purpose.  I normally will put mine into my small wheeled carry on with all of the other things you describe.  They aren't big, bulky, or heavy.  They are necessary, though 😁
