  1. Fairy lights are a great idea - really cheery, and I don’t think they eat too much electricity? You can get all sorts of designs - butterflies, dragonflies, actual fairies - as well as just bulb shaped bulbs. I really like these. Have a set along the headboard and they give a nice warm glow whilst providing enough light to get into bed without putting on the bright full lights. These are the original suppliers but you can get cheaper sets … to some extent, as ever, you get what you pay for https://cableandcotton.com/
  2. Safe journey Brian You may arrive back at the same time the remnants of Hurricane Ian gets here 🙄. Let’s hope not
  3. Yes. I forgot Vitamin D It’s meant to good for mood, among other benefits I take it daily, al, year round. Some recommend a double dose October to March.
  4. The SAD lights are reputed to really help - by the people who are fans, of course! But seriously, I dislike the short winter days and, in the absence of winter cruising last year, decided that I would get one if I found myself feeling low. Happily, for me, that wasn’t the case, and I guess my daily dog walk gave me enough light. Unhappily, for you, that means I can’t give a personal recommendation or experience. I think they come in from £50, up to over £100 When I was working I used a daylight alarm clock, which simulates dawn and let’s you come to gently, without a jangling bell. That worked really well, except that the training has stayed with me and I wake stupidly early in summer. That might help validate the power of light though. If you get one, let us know how you get on. If I get one, I’ll report back (Is this where I should give a progress report on the cheapo air fryer, and say that we were very pleased with the roast potatoes? We’re as good as Which, aren’t we? 🤣)
  5. Sorry you’re a bit low, lincslady. Hope it passes quickly. The obviously changing season doesn’t help - not that there’s anything at all wrong with autumn itself, but putting the lights on earlier and earlier of an evening just rubs it in that summer is gone Here’s the best I can manage for humour today. Pretty weak but, hey ho
  6. We walked the SW Coastal Path from Osmington Mills towards Ringstead, then returned slightly inland. The panorama pic is from the first part of the walk, looking back towards Weymouth. You can just about make out the causeway and Portland in the far distance. It’s a bit up & down, lots of steps, but handrails where you need them, and only one ford, which isn’t running very deep, at the moment, fortunately. The pub is the Smugglers Inn at Osmington The pie was chicken and ham hock!
  7. I hope you can have a nice day Josy, and forget about the nasties. People! There’s always someone to spoil things Indiana - sounding good for your mobility. 🤞 you continue to improve We had a super day yesterday. Lovely weather, beautiful walk & trencherman’s pub lunch. Perfect! (I don’t think that was a gravy boat my onion sauce was served in - looked a little more like a cream jug. Perhaps it’s dual purpose?
  8. As well as 🤣 kalos, that’s a good post as it’s reminded me to remind the doggy owners, whose dogs hate fireworks, that now is a good time to at least try desensitising. Dogs Trust have some good material online, to let you play whilst things are relaxed & potentially make hallowe’en and November 5th much less traumatic. There’s more clips on YouTube too. It’s worth a try. Air fryers? I bought a small one from Robert Dyas. £40. It’s still at the front of the cupboard, tho I’ve only recently got it. Only tried it on McCain gourmet oven chips, which came up beautifully. Trying roast potatoes tomorrow. I’ve cleaned my big oven and don’t intend using it again, unless I get invaded for Christmas. The Remoska will cook a chicken or Sunday roast, lasagne, etc; the slow cooker will do casseroles, curry, chilli. Feeling fine after 🦠 booster yesterday - absolutely no discernible effect. Hope it has a protective effect though. Hope Dave’s feeling a bit better Have a good day, everyone
  9. Sorry you’re poorly Dave. Get well soon, and stay well till you can get your protective jabs. I’m not sure being infected gives natural immunity - so much info out there, some of it conflicting - but let’s hope My Covid jab today, 10.5 months after the last; the promised Spring booster seems to have vanished into the ether Harry - sorry for your difficult position. No politics but 🙄, bad situation The autumn exuinox today and the weather is changing. Rain overnight, dull now. Mustn’t complain - it feels like it has been summer forever. Much appreciated Have a good day everyone
  10. A watch, perhaps Depending on timing, could you get Xmas or birthday presents? Bags, perfume, booze, sunglasses, books? Or an expensive excursion you wouldn’t normally take? I’m not at all keen on ship’s excursions but Princess do some superb ones
  11. The weather is brilliant today. Cloudless skies, no wind, very warm. We walked round the shore, as the tide was out. Had to wash the dog on our return, as there is a bit of clay amongst the sand and pebbles. I was pleased with my pics of The Fleet
  12. That’s a ridiculous way to use (abuse?) volunteers, and feels like the best way to lose them. Whoever is organising should get a grip and arrange shorter shifts with more support. I hope it’s not like that when I go for mine on Friday. It’s at the site we had our booster in November, so I think it’s mostly manned by zero-hours, minimum wage, admin staff, alongside trained jabbers. I think I described the set up as amiably amateur. Will report back
  13. Every P&O cruise leaves me saying, in frustration, surely, SURELY, they could come up with a plan to help the last morning movements? It would take a few staff but I feel it would pay dividends - leave passengers with a rosy glow and warm feelings, leading to future bookings, rather than the opposite So - what do they do? I’m not sure of the details but it would involve making (and policing!) some lifts wheelchairs, walkers and buggies, plus the rest of the travelling group, only; some lifts people going up and down to breakfast only (no luggage); and some lifts (possibly including the ‘not for public use’) only for people and their luggage making their last journey up or down to the disembarkation deck. This might need authoritative crew members riding the lifts, or policing the lift lobbies on each deck. It would definitely require clear signage Could it work? Who knows? People are people but I think the majority are happy to keep to the rules, especially if they can see benefits
