  1. NCL has been having a lot of computer glitches. I would call and check. One ncl cruise I booked eight nights out of seven dinner reservations. Looked fine in my ncl account. Got on the ship and only 1 reservation was showing. Had to rebook the other 7.

  2. Cruises that are not selling can drop really low close to sailing. I wanted a last minute getaway by myself this past spring. I watched the ncl cruises to Bermuda pricing everyday. I booked on a Monday and left on that Friday. 7 day cruise with no single supplement. Inside cabin sailaway. $250. I was happy. It is just the chances we take with booking early or last minute. Have my eye on a 14 night Caribbean cruise this fall that is not selling well at all. We will see!

  3. On our last 14 night cruise we paid upfront $800 for gratuities/service charges. This included daily service charge, udp and ubp. We would never tip that much on a two week all inclusive land resort. The only person I tipped extra was our room steward who was excellent. The best stew we ever had. My last 7 day cruise the stew was mediocre at best. Never saw him and did nothing for us other than the usual. Tipped him nothing extra.

The bank determines how many days the hold stays on the account.  With my bank it is anywhere between five to seven days, I've heard of other banks being ten days or more.  NCL takes their payment, but it is up to the bank to release the hold.  It would be nice if they released it as soon as the payment is made, but that is not how it is done.

Sorry but my bank has never put holds on my debit card. Ncl rep told me ncl did it and they will release the hold in 5 business days. Never happened before in 9 years of cruising using same bank.

This is really wrong of them, the whole point of a hold is to ensure the funds are there for payment when the time comes, as soon as payment is made the holds should be removed.

I have no idea if this is a bank or NCL issue but once the holds have been claimed it should be removed as there is no further claim on funds.

It's really not acceptable to take payment and leave the holds on either a credit card or debit card.

This was not my bank that put the hold on. The bank assured me of this. When I called ncl the rep said ncl put the holds on. Never happened in the past cruises with ncl.

  6. I have been on 10 ncl cruises. My last one was the first time on the gem. Always used my debit card. This is the first cruise that NCL ( not my bank ) put holds on my debit card. Billed for $1,000 spent and $750 holds. Took a week to come off my account. I don, t understand why this cruise this happened but my other 9 cruises on other ncl ships had no holds and I spent a lot!!! More on those cruises.

  7. I have sailed on the Spirit and the Dawn multiple times. These ships are small and have no haven or vibe. Never felt like the area around the pool was over crowded. Just took a cruise on the Gem. No forward deck access due to the haven. The pool area was ridiculously crowded. Same size ship but I noticed a huge difference in the outside deck atmosphere and it was not to my liking. I understand why people who do not book haven get upset about areas being taken away. It does lessen the cruise experience for those of us who choose not to book the haven.

  8. We were always in balcony cabins, then we tried an ocean view. It was ok but window over the bed. Could not look out it anyway. Then tried an inside. It was great. Never missed the balcony. Got us out in the public areas more which we found we liked better than sitting on our balcony. Won’t be paying for that balcony again unless we score a good deal on an upgrade bid.

  9. I was also on the gem to Bermuda in April with a sailaway inside cabin. Got assigned cabin 8007. Probably the worst cabin in rough weather. So far forward and in the corner. The first day and a half was very rough. I could not walk or take a shower in my cabin. The noise of the waves crashing against the hull was deafening. Every time a wave hit the whole cabin would vibrate violently. Won’t do that again.

  10. All I meant was that the prices of these cruises keep increasing but the service keeps declining. Towel animals are no big deal to me. No coffee maker isn’t a deal breaker either. The no ice was a pain. First night I get back to my cabin, change for bed and then go to fill my thermos for ice water during the night. Guess what. No ice bucket. Never had that happen before. Had to get dressed and walk from front of ship to the back to fill my thermos. Was never informed asking for ice bucket was an option. These decreases are obviously so the cruise line can have less room stewards and give them more cabins. We also had very rough seas and all the stewards in the halls kept making it a point that most of them were sea sick. Thought that was odd info to continuously share with guests. I did not have the drink perk and thought the prices of drinks now were outrageous. Just got a different vibe this cruise that wasn’t as pleasant as prior NCL cruises.

  11. We have always used our debit card on NCL. Last month on the GEM I used it and my final bill was $1,000. Ncl put another holdings of $750 on my card. Never had that happen before in 10 years. My bank doesn’t put holds on to the account so it was NCL. Won’t do that again. NCL has become quite the money grubber lately.
