What is HAL's excuse NOT to bring the ship back to Ft. Lauderdale? It's 11000 NM from Fremantle to FLA via the Panama canal with a stop in New Zealand to top of bunkers and provisions, with out letting anyone go ashore. The crossing from New Zealand to Panama is around 6700 NM, with an economical speed of 450 NM per day that is give or take 15 days. Top of bunkers/provisions in Panama and on to FLA which is 3 days.

It is 7 days fm Fremantle to NZ, one day bunkers/provisions, 15 days to cross Pacific to Panama, 1 day bunkers/prov., 1 day Canal, 3 days to FLA. Total days 28! Why is that a "DAM" problem?

No excuses, just well thought-out reasons.

    Eg:

Number one reason: All cruise ships not already in New Zealand waters are not permitted to dock. There is no guarantee that any ports along the route will allow entry, including the USA.

Number two reason: Look at a map and see how far from land (ie medical help) these fragile passengers will be during the journey.

The passengers have appealed to Seattle to allow the ship to go on to FLL with no port stops other then fuel and supplies.  Dozens have told ship staff that they are unable to fly for medical reasons.  We are supposed to hear Seattle’s decision this afternoon.  Stay tuned....

Wow. What kind of insurance would you need to have to do an around the world cruise if you are medically unable to fly? Any number of things could happen, at any time,  requiring you to be transported back to the USA from the cruise.

hlitner was correct in mentioning the UK exemption.  It does not make a lot of sense.  I know many Brits, and I watch BBC news.  Despite preparing well before the United States for this new virus (testing kits, urging people with mild symptoms to stay away from family practitioners and hospitals, and telling others to phone a hotline to be given instructions) there has been an upsurge of new cases.  Brits love to travel, and are continuing to take cruises and flights seeking the sun.  Hence, there are apparently more cases of the virus in the UK than in some of the banned countries.  The fact that the UK is not included in the ban has a slight "smell" to me.

Britain is not 'exempt'. It was never part of the ban, as the ban only applies to Schengan Area countries.

How are your lounge chairs reserved?  I considered a Lanai but nixed it because I didn't want strangers sitting near my door.

The chair squabs are a different colour to the other loungers and there is a material cover that goes over the top part that clearly says reserved.

I am going to be slow to visit Japan again. It is a beautiful country and the people are great, but going there on a cruise allowing time for endless immigration parades as your ship comes in and out and back into Japan. Other countries seem to manage OK without it, as well as having customs officers everywhere in each port, I've seen them patting down crew. But I love the country so this is but grumbling.

But I just don't how they treated those aboard the Diamond Princess.

Maybe you do not know what your own immigration people do to visitors cruising around the USA. We waited 5 1/2 hours for a 20 second interview with an immigration official on the Westerdam in December -  this was for a port stop in Key West.

Thanks, but it is not there for me. Maybe it is too soon, my cruise is not til August. I don't have a Packages under Cruise Activities. I have Specialty Dining, Dining Packages, Spa, Gifts and Indulgences, and Beverages.

Look in 'Gifts and Indulgences'. Scroll to the bottom. I can see it here for my October cruise.

Viv0828, at least we did not board because we knew this would happen.  The ship would end up floating in the sea.

With so many people leaving Wuhan to HK right before the ship docked there, it will be a miracle if no one on board is infected.  We we see in the next few days in the 2-14 incubation period.

The ship has not ended up "floating in the sea" as you claimed it would. See post 17 for the revised ports.

This question only really applies to Guarantees as other cabin numbers appear on invoices etc.

Is there somewhere I have missed that shows the cabin assignment? I haven't had this problem before so I expect it is related to website changes. I recall in the past that Luggage Labels was the earliest to be updated but I am not seeking speed, just a comprehensive view of my booking.

Log into Holland America. Go to 'My Bookings" and then to "Manage Payments" for the booking that you want to see. This will give you a comprehensive view of your booking.
