  1. I was wondering about this as my girlfriend's passport (US citizen) expires after our cruise but within 6 months.  The Royal Caribbean website says that a passport isn't required for closed loop but it also says the passport has to have 6 months validity. However, the travel document section under non-US citizen does not mention the 6 months.  Strange.

We are just going to San Juan, no passport needed anyhow.  Labadee, no idea on a private island in Haiti.  St. Maarten, no idea what their rules are.

  2. I just realized I'm Platinum level and they have this listed, "

On select ships only. Priority Seating at Theater, ice show & AquaTheater events will be held up to ten minutes before show time. To reserve show times before you board, visit the Pre Cruise Planner section on your local site."

I already booked all our shows online.  Does this mean that others can't book these shows online or is it just some faster seating when we get there?

  3. I haven't been on RCI in a while.  We booked a cruise for January.  I'm not totally sure about some details on our booking.  But all I can find online is the total paid.  Can't see a full invoice with breakdown of costs, whether we paid gratuities already (may have booked after a few cocktails and don't remember).   I couldn't even find a place to change my personal info like email or home address.  Any tips?

  4. Do automatic tips show up on all receipts?  Like if I get a drink with the deluxe drink package, I've already paid a tip.  Will I get a receipt each time?  I'm always bothered by included tips when I'm basically not sure if the person providing the service is aware of the tip already being paid.  I've had this with limo drivers to the airport and room service type things before.   I wouldn't want to be tipping extra but I do always feel like I should be tipping again at time of service.

You really don't NEED reservations for "My Time" dining...that's the point....once onboard, if you want a specific time, check with the dining room...they will do their best to make it happen.

Yeah, that's what I thought but when I saw the MTD available for booking times I assumed I had to do it.  Oh well, it will all work out.

The ships which use the Royal IQ app (and maybe others) have this issue where they don't show a time in the overall view of the calendar, but "at your leisure" - if you go into the details of the reservation, it will show the time booked.

This seems to be the case on the website as well.  I don't have the app yet.  I guess I'll have to get that.  But I booked different times each night, depending on show times.  You are correct, the details will show the time, but the calendar just says at your leisure.  I think the times will be okay.  I wonder, is it possible to change times each day if something were to come up?  I really shouldn't worry about it.  After all, I've always got to the MDR on past cruises at my fixed time.

  7. I haven't been on RCI for a long time.  I figured out to book all our shows (Harmony in January).  Then I saw I could actually book times for My Time Dining.  I booked them all and checked out.  But my calendar says "at your leisure" for time, not the times I booked.  I'd rather not be required to stick to times I booked since I don't know what we may be doing before dinner.  Any hints or advice?

  8. I hope this was a joke? In Chicago there were 100 people shot over 4th of July weekend; in Fort Lauderdale there was the airport shooting, and there have been all the recent attacks world wide using vehicles as weapons. If you are so worried about safety that you wouldn't get off in port not sure how you can justify leaving your house every day. Mexico is a really large country and the tourist areas are the least dangerous. I wouldn't hesitate to visit Mexico.

Violence in Chicago and isolated terror incidents in other countries are nothing like what's going on in Mexico. I hope your post was a joke.

  9. Loved your review -- thanks.

We're doing this cruise in 45 days -- we love the Fantasy Class ships!

Interested in what you did in St. Lucia -- SL and Barbados are new ports to us.

As of now, we are doing a Cosol all-day tour in St. Lucia, and a trip to Harrison's Cave in Barbados -- maybe a taxi ride to Mt. Gay Rum afterwards, since the cave tour is only 3 hours.

We did Cosol tours a few years ago. It was okay but very busy and a lot of time in a closed taxi. The driver we had needed to rush to get things in. For example the sample of bread and bananas he just jumped out and grabbed them and handed them back to us as we drove. He also suggested we skip the mud bath due to time. It seemed to me he'd make out on the admission fee if we skipped it. Enough people insisted we stop. It wasn't a bad excursion if you want to see everything, just very busy. The beach and snorkeling (I think at Jalousie) was very cool.

This time we just took a cab to Viggie beach (I think that's what it is called) and had a beach day. A tip if you are going here, there isn't much in the way of purchasing stuff. The food stand operators are more interested in the locals and treated us rather rudely. The water they sold me was just tap that they put in water bottles, seal was broken and it was overfilled for real bottled water. The taxi driver charged us $20 and said it was $20 both ways. Then he dropped us off at a guy that rented chairs and insisted we see him to get our taxi driver back. It's all a kickback scheme. The same guy scoped out our belongings at our chairs when we were at the food stand. He looked and saw us watching him and quickly moved away.

Realizing all this we walked down the beach to where the guy that's on Cruise Critic in the St. Lucia forum posts sometimes. I saw his sign as we got to the beach (it says Cruise Critic members) but our driver wouldn't stop there. I should have gone to him originally. We got a taxi there and I was quoted $10 (proving the first guy ripped me off). But of course the driver didn't have change for a $20 and no one at the port would provide change so he got a $10 tip. It was a very short drive and overall I got ripped off but not huge amounts. The beach is a plain beach, no snorkeling, some good waves. If you do a beach just get up front taxi prices and have small bills to give exact change.

  10. Care to tell us about Calabaza Catamaran? I looked them up and they look interesting. A bit pricey. What makes them worth it? I assume quality of service, but I'd like your opinion.

I see a promo/discount code when you check out. Do you know where to get one?

    thanks!

The biggest thing for me on Calabaza is the service. They have an open bar and are very great about making sure you have a drink when you need one. They only have 12 people on the Catamaran and 3 staff. Service is exceptional. They serve a few items/snacks at breakfast including fresh fruit, banana bread and fried fish dough things. They take you snorkeling over a reef and then with sea turtles (if the turtles happen to be around). The serve a great lunch. They also take lots of pictures and put them on a website for download for free. They didn't even mention a tip or have a tip bucket when getting off the boat. Although I still tip them ~20% because they were so good. I've honestly never felt so good about an excursion. Most others just seem to be all about separating you from your money. This one you just pay up front and they give you everything you could ask.

I've never seen a promo or discount so not sure on that.
