  1. I just realized how I was completely not thinking about this. We are cruising to Barbados and last time we brought back some awesome hot sauce brand name Delish. It's not available here and I never order because shipping is cost prohibitive.

I completely planned to pick some up this time. But today I remembered we are not checking bags. Crap. So I can't bring the hot sauce through security. If there is USPS and we buy enough maybe shipping won't be so bad. Otherwise if they sell this brand in San Juan after security I could buy it then.

  2. Unfortunately, fwir that device is now likely to be confiscated, since devices surge protection are not permitted.

Yup I was gonna post this same reply. Surge protectors are actually a fire hazard on a ship because of the wiring (no ground on a ship). There are many inexpensive versions without surge protectors but most with USB have them.

Just found this one, good idea. I don't own it so can't give a review but it fits the bill.

  3. Unfortunately, the Captain's night cocktail parties went goodbye the way of the extravagant midnight buffets complete with the wide array of ice sculptures and the Dodo bird. Now, Captain's night is a parade of the Captain and his officers strolling down the Promenade deck saying hello to passengers who get a small discount on drinks.

Does he stop for pictures with people and is it on a specific night?

  4. I understand where your coming from. I've been sailing Carnival since 1991. The cutbacks are for real. In 1991 I paid around 5000 for a balcony cabin 007 on the Carnival Celebration for our Honeymoon. I can get a balcony cabin today for around 2800 on some carnival ships. The service is nothing like it was in the 1990's. I booked the Carnival Vista family cabin for New Years this year because my Diamond I could pick the 3rd 4th and 5th guest free. I own stock in both Carnival and Royal. IMO I like Royal better. The ships are nicer, the service is very good, and I like the food.

I have no comment on your post. Just want to say I love your screen name. I should change mine to SigP226 :)

  5. Drinking age has been 21 on Carnival for a while..

  6. Someone on a roll call I'm part of is asking if we have a Captain's night on the Fascination. I know we have 2 elegant nights. I don't recall from my past cruises much about Captain's night. Is it one of the elegant nights? Anyone know where the Captain would be for pictures? I know years ago they had this with a free cocktail hour but I think that's been done away with long ago.

    Thanks!

  7. Not sure why Carnival fanboys always like to deflect criticism of Carnival towards NCL. Whats even funnier is it wasn't even criticism in the first place. Its almost like a borg collective! lol

PS water is free on decent cruise lines and I dont sweat the big things either.

    Enjoy your water dear.

Water is free on Carnival also. RO water is more pure than any spring water. People just like to see it in a bottle. :D I'm no fan boy and I do wonder about the very fast increase in price. I'd bet they did research and found that 4.50 is a price that will make them the most but still not steer people away. I have no problem with that amount.

  8. Okay being the impatient person I am I booked a new excursion, the BOSS Underwater Scooters, for St. Thomas and cancelled the Screamin' Eagle. It will take a while to get my refund I guess but I like to have a plan. Another member here suggested it when I posted about this in the St. Thomas forum. Anyhow it looks like a cool thing, not the same old same old, and has great reviews. Twice as expensive but it's my birthday the day we go, so why not. :)

  9. Thanks so much Ms411. I just booked the BOSS scooter excursion. I cancelled our Screamin' Eagle since I know they will be cancelling anyhow. Unfortunately it takes a week to get the refund and my card will be loaded up with charges for a bit. This BOSS is twice the price but since it's longer we will skip the gondola ride to Paradise Point. It also starts at noon so we can sleep in (kids don't get up too early, although they may without X Box keeping them up all night). We can eat on the ship before we go too. So it will overall probably save us money.

Not sure why I didn't see that before. Definitely a bit different. :)

  10. The only way it is not reality is if the kid was consuming smuggled on alcohol. You need to be 21 to legally purchase it at a bar in the fleet.

Probably you should let Razor know the reason you are so sure. That is, of course, that your Carnival card immediately shows the bartender if you aren't old enough. The bartenders would be in trouble if they sold to minors. However, maybe if he was with friends that served him it could happen.

  11. Exactly, and why are people apologizing to the OP because her cruise wasnt up to par? Ive never understood all the "Im sorry your cruise wasnt good" comments. Its not our place to apologize for Carnival.

They aren't really apologizing for Carnival. It's more like a condolence than an apology. Similar to "I'm sorry for your loss"... etc. The word sorry sort of has 2 meanings.

  12. I was gonna take my 2 boys, 14 and 16 on the Screamin' Eagle Jetboat through Carnival on August 14. Carnival is so mixed up they don't show the excursion but told me on the phone my excursion was still on. I contacted the Screamin' Eagle operator and they told me the boat is no longer operational. So I know for a fact we won't be going. Just have to wait for Carnival to figure it out and refund me.

But we have tours and snorkeling at enough ports and enough beach days. Really looking for something cool. Only thing is the boys won't ride together on something like jet skis and the 14 year old is too young for most ATV/jetski type things. I'm at a loss.

  13. They do.

The guarantee must be executed within the first 24 hours after sailing.

The passengers MUST have a passport in order to fly home. Many do, but many also do not.

I'd guess generally speaking that people hope things get better after the first day. Usually long lines on the first day settle down and things improve. I don't know many that would go through the hassle of quiting after only 24 hours.

I've seen plenty of reviews with the same complaints. I've been on the Dream a few times and lines were often ridiculous. Mongolion Wok simply was never open long enough to not have a huge line. I can see that being annoying. These days it seems bigger ships are just adding people and actually decreasing public space per person. But for the value I go Carnival anyhow.

  14. Oh sorry I did miss that, wonder if they are hoping to find another operator business to pick up the excursion?

They don't really seem to know. I'm guessing that perhaps the boat had a huge mechanical failure or something. It's been in business for a while and suddenly just stopped operating. I'm sure it will all get worked out in time. I can't really find anything else I want to do in St. Thomas other than maybe the sky ride.

  15. Try a date in the future where you'll probably get the same information as on your cruise.

It's not available for dates in the future. That's what prompted me to start checking into this.

I won't cancel just now, just in case there is something weird and it is still happening for my cruise. Who knows maybe if they cancel late they will give me some discount or something. If I do find something else to book then I'll cancel. Kind of bummed out because this was something cool to do that was a bit different than the typical beach or tour. My younger son is too young to ride the jet skis (14) and would not want to share with his brother, otherwise they'd love that.
