I think that you will have lots of veteran Carnival cruisers along for the big Sailabration! So, my guess is that the formal dinners at least will be dressier, as will evenings a little more than usual. I mean, it IS a special occassion!

Thank you very much for your response. That is what I thought so now reporting back to the family! We hope you have a wonderful cruise and your daughter gets hooked on cruising.

  2. I hope you all sailing this coming week have a wonderful time and great weather.

We are sailing on the 50th anniv cruise. Discussion with a family member about how dressy this anniv. cruise will be. We do like to dress up but not sure and wondering if this cruise would be more formal with more festivities or the usual shorts and t-shirts in the MDR and restaurants. Any guesses out there?

    Thanks

Having sailed a bunch of times since testing was required AND as a person that flies to the port, the added 3rd day is HUGE.  The 2 day 'test/fly/sail' sequence was fairly stressful, especially if traveling long distances.  Our flights to Baltimore in October and Miami in January were wheels up by 8am the day before the cruise.  Both times we had to test the morning the day before our flights to obtain our results by around noon meaning that we really only had a single afternoon of 'emergency flex time' if a problem occurred. Doable but not ideal.  By adding an additional day, 24 more hours of cushion have been added back to the process.

HI neighbor from MN. Yes adding another day is great. We always fly the day before because of the weather. And then getting testing done in time is another challenge.

When we sailed in Dec. there was a big snow storm the night before. Heck of a time getting to the airport. Our plane had sat on the tarmac over night and was frozen and covered in snow. And then delayed with some fuse frozen and then sat to be deiced for quite a while. We would never had made it to the cruise in time. Wish I still had the photo on a mechanic working inside the engine. Scary.

We fly out 3/4 for Margi Gras on 3/5. Always problematic leaving from MN in the winter. And our usual testing places are not convenient timing this time.

We will be on Quantum to Hawaii in October with lots of sea days. Does Royal have informational presentations, similar to the Celebrity ones?
I found them a good counterpoint to the more active options, especially on a stretch of sea days. To be clear, I’m not referring to the sales related ones ( “How to buy art, jewelry, etc”).

Never seen one on any Royal ship.  But there have been wonderful ones we have attended on the QM2 and  Celebrity Eclipse and on Princess.

We had five premier/ultra gifts but I think the only "regular" premeir gift was the Carnival 50th anniversary coin in an ornate box, which we left behind.  We also didn't bother with the platinum gift, pin or sweet treat.  But we were sure to get our $25, free water and free cappuccinos.  We skipped the platinum party this time because October and November were duds without the food.

Hope we get a lot more on the Carnival 50th anniv cruise in March.  Royal Caribbean on their 50th gave us a lot of great and useful gifts.  Carnival--are you listening?

  6. We were on the Breakaway 12/12/21. This cruise was booked 12/2019. No way were we going to cancel.

1688 passengers and 1700 crew. Everything open and running. The entertainment was fantastic as usual for NCL. We were masked most of the time. No big deal. If I forgot a mask leaving my cabin a cabin steward down the hall gave me one.

Saw some people that did not mask. We moved quickly away from people sneezing and coughing could be anything.

The group were hung out with felt we were in a bubble away from land and crowds etc. etc.

They keep saying clean the ship, clean the airplanes, clean the restaurants.

Well the most important thing is to CLEAN THE PEOPLE. THAT IS THE PROBLEM.

Lying about being healthy but hiding symptoms. check out CCL RCL MSC .proof

Also, the 4 islands we went to the "natives" were mostly masked and hand sanitizer everywhere. Good for them.

No comments from the peanut gallery accepted.

yeah it’s just carnival. Usually I’m here with another carnival ship. I believe the other ships are in coxen hole. You can see them from one of the pictures I posted after the beach picture.

Mahog Bay built only for CCL brand ships. The other cruise brands go to Coxen Hole. Will see this next week when on the Breakaway. Have not been there for years and years, Will be interesting to see how it has been developed.

What would you like to know.

We're onboard right now enjoying ourselves completely without worries.

The crew have been fantastic and the amount of cleaning/wiping surfaces down has been unbelievable.....even exceeding normal levels.

Nearly all passengers masked in elevators but other than that not a lot different except that they request you wash your hands and use hand sanitizer when entering ANY eating venue.

In other words, common sense precautions.

You are the only voice of reason on this "BLOG".

Correct.....we are sailing to Roatan now.

Incorrect......we are not skipping Cozumel....we are going as planned.

The port we are skipping is Costa Maya.

Relax folks.....have fun and don't spread disinformation!

You are so right. Constant misinformation by the pundits on here that think they know everything.

Keep having a good time and enjoying yourself, we are on next week and looking forward to the great entertainment NCL has.

We just got off the Breakaway. Prior to the testing requirements on Friday one of the bartenders told us that a couple of crew members were in quarantine without symptoms. This was on Thursday. On Friday it was announced that all passengers were ordered to be tested by the CDC. This was probably due to the fact that crew members were in quarantine. The testing went fast and smooth. The disembarkation took longer than normal with a few glitches but we were off the ship within an hour. Everybody was given a BinaxNOW by the port authority to test at home.
According to news reports there were 3200 passengers on board , not true. According to officers and crew members there were less than 1600 passengers and a full crew. All venues were less than half full, the pool deck always had at least fifty percent of the lounge chairs empty, elevators never had more than three or four people at a time and most of the time there was nobody on them. The Manhattan dining room at dinner was at least two thirds empty. All of the eating venues were about the same. The only restaurant that was half full was the Haven. Food was excellent. All of the crew wore masks and we never saw them removed for any reason. They asked you to wash your hands and sanitize but we never heard washie washie.
if there are any questions I will try to answer them if I can.

Finally a sensible  not negative  honest report. So sick of all the people who post here and think they know everything and do nothing but complain and dispense false news.

I googled and 2 different things that sound like tests came up saying these tests can detect it. I didnt say all could detect omnicron but clearly it's not as hard as people are saying to determine either.

What's a proctored cue test. They say they can detect it from at home testing. .. and found another test that can and I looked 2 minutes. And tv doctors say there are tests that can determine it that can be used.

I give up, clearly I'm just listening to national tv doctors, but google says there are tests.

Hopefully this will not be to disruptive on our cruise ..12/12...on the Breakaway

    HI:

We are with you on this cruise. We are testing on 12/10 before we fly out on 12/11. Changed hotel to Marriott Convention center to be closer to testing and the pier. Still need to get transport from airport to hotel. Then follow all the conflicting procedures for testing, luggage, and boarding. Snow this am just to top it off.

Fortunately, I boarded as the first person in main zone 1, as baggage space is already filling up quickly. I had to go one row back for a space. Then, the lady in the window seat shows up, and has to go back two rows to stow her bag. She then proceeded to take about twenty airplane selfies after getting settled in. Finally, the aisle seat person shows up, and she's spilling over into my seat on my right. As long as the plane doesn't crash, I'll survive until Atlanta...

The people we saw on the mardi gras a few weeks ago would never fit into one airplane seat or even 2.

We're going to be on the 5th sailing as well. I know when we went on Breakaway last time it was here (3 years ago) Syd Normans was the place to be. Don't think people realized it yet as we could get in most nights. Then we went on Getaway a year later and you couldn't wedge into there it was so packed.

My wife wants to see Six so we'll be trying for that as well.

We are on the 12/12 sailing. FYI the SIX show is fantastic. We saw it here in 2019 and from here MN was headed to Broadway and then COVID.  May have opened there by now.

So, the question is, do I put my phone down for a charge now, before the Chef's Table later?... Or, do I risk the usual fiasco trying to switch over to my other fully charged phone?...

We were on the Mardi for Halloween. Living the cruise again through your pictures and they are great thank you for all your work. We will be back on the Mardi Gras for the 50th anniv of CCL 3/5/2022.

But worried that you have not gotten your spam calls and junk mail concerning your car warranty.

    We did!!!!

    Keep up the good work.
