We are always one of the last off the ship. We carry our own luggage, but are very good at packing and only bring 1 suitcase per person. We are out of the room by 8:30 and grab breakfast at Lido buffet. We park ourselves on the deck above lido and just relax until last call.
How long is the wait through customs when you do this?

That's the earliest I have seen on cruises out of Galveston. I know nothing about other home ports.
I've always gotten 11:30-12:00, which is when our check in on our cruise on the Freedom in December.

Funny ... my earlier answer was the Vista, but just booked her again for next year. Still excited to go! lol

For my cruise on the Freedom 12/7/19 no prepayment required. but our 11/14/20 cruise on the Vista it is.

IMO, I'd come prepared with a doctor's note and ask guest services when you get onboard, but prepared for it not to work. Never hurts to ask, though. 🍹🍺

If your wanting more reliable chat and are paying for or willing to pay for the social internet package then I would use Facebook messenger. We have started using it and its almost always reliable, but we pay for to social internet package anyways.
This is how we all communicate onboard. Just more convenient imo

We always go for a balcony on Panorama. We like it as high and forward as possible. It's close to Lido and elavators. There is very little foot traffic and the view from up there is fabulous.
Someone must have lost it after final payment was due, but I was just able to scoop up the first cabin through the doors on the Freedom and I'm pretty excited, especially because of how late I booked and only guarantees were available at the time. 😁

Lido, as close to the pool (err...bar lol) as possible.

If anyone has stayed in 10297 or 10298 on the Vista or Horizon Id love to hear if they had noise issues.
We've stayed in 10294, which is the second cabin forward. The only thing from the pool area you can slightly hear is from your balcony when there are deck parties, but it's not loud. Cabin, no issues. 🙂

I honestly don't understand the concern. It always seemed to me that since embarkation day is not much more than half a day on board, it's to the cruiser's financial benefit not to have to pay for a full day of Cheers.
There's obviously something I'm missing.
I can't speak for anyone else, but because of the excitement of finally being on the ship or whatever I tend to drink more the first day ... so am glad we are able to bring on the wine - it helps the budget. Lol

Mine emails, gives work & cell number, and has a facebook where he will answer messenger questions. I wish I could share his name with you, he's awesome.

We picked a time to celebrate our 15th anniversary, and both of our birthdays which all are a few weeks apart ... on a cruise where several of our friends were already booked. We aren't celebrating for a free cake. Lol

This is a very good point and is the main reason I would never cruise out of Galveston, because our bar bill would be well over $200 on day one. Of course if I lived within an easy drive of Galveston I might feel differently.
We only have a 4 hour drive to Galveston, this is why being able to bring on 2 bottles is helpful ... 1 day w/o Cheers is significantly cheaper than airfare somewhere else. 🙂
If Cheers was available the first day, I don't think I would bother bringing my own wine.

We had what they said was wagyu at one of the chef's tables we went to ... to me it tasted like pot roast, and mine is better. Lol

I wear a lanyard with the card flipped over so no one can see what color it is. Lol

They had Sprite Zero last time I cruised. 🙂

Usually the really good deals come through a telephone call. The emails run about the same as it would be to upgrade on your own.

I would definitely use a cash account. You can always add more if you're running low, and it avoids all of the hold problems
