  1. I know. That’s why I was hoping I could get a recommendation here. 🙂 That sounds like a wonderful way to spend the day!
  2. Can someone recommend a private boat tour for Zakynthos. Something along this line, which is on both Viator and TripAdvisor.
  3. I found a private boat tour (up to 6 passengers) for Zakynthos on Viator and Trip advisor. I’m going to see if our friends would like to do that. If that works out, a beach day in Mykonos would be great.
  4. I don’t know why it wouldn’t be possible. People miss ships all the time. If it’s not, it’s not the end of the world. I just hate the idea of wasting 4 hours traveling back and forth with our short amount of time there. Please report back on your experience! Me too! I wouldn’t have even thought of it if someone here didn’t suggest it.
  5. I’m not sure why you are saying this at this point. I’ve been watching a lot of videos. Nothing stands out at Mykonos, except the beach. Our next port is Zakynthos and I don’t see anything there other than a beach either. I don’t know that my husband would want to do beaches back to back. I’d also be okay with walking around the town, enjoying lunch with a pretty view and shopping, but again, I’m not sure my dh would particularly enjoy that either. Our friends are doing a food tour, but it sounds seafood based and I’m not a big fan. Maybe I should suggest he do that with them and I could do the beach by myself, but it wouldn’t be the same without him. The days prior to Mykonos will be busy. A couple days pre-cruise touring Athens, then a tour in Santorini. The problem is two days in a row of just the beach/walking around town May seem boring to him. Then we have a 4x4 excursion in Corfu.
  6. Yes, I’m aware of all of the above, except the bread. They charge for bread or for the table? I believe they charge for bread even if you pass, correct? I saw a YouTube video of a couple there and it looked cool. I did see the menu prices, but thought it would be worth it. Maybe not. So you can’t wheel luggage over a bridge? I wouldn’t mind paying $80 for a water taxi, but it seems a bit extra for a one night stay. Maybe we would be better off doing as @euro cruiser suggested and take the train from Trieste to Venice since we’ll be taking the train to Rome the next day. Then either store it at the luggage station there or get a hotel in that area. May be easier to just store it since we won’t have room access right away. That never crossed my mind. Thank you so much!! We’ve really only traveled in the Caribbean, so what seems like common knowledge to more seasoned travelers isn’t so obvious to me. I will check it out. I have looked at TripAdvisor. I still have that vision of a romantic gondola ride there. We wouldn’t share it with anyone else, just the two of us and perhaps a bottle of wine as someone suggested. I guess I should mark Cafe Florian off my list. I get it. An overpriced tourist trap. I need to find some videos of these bridges. Would this be an issue if we got a hotel near the train station? Hotel Rialto looks lovely! I sent them an email asking when I could book for next July. Thanks for the suggestion! It looks like it’s about a half hour walk to the places we want to go. I’d prefer staying closer, but guess we could take the vaporetto.
  7. Thanks! I just don’t think there’s anything that looks overly exciting to me here. I think we’ll go to a beach and/or walk around the town.
  8. I saw that excursion but it doesn’t look fun. We will be doing plenty of that type of stuff in Athens and Rome. I forgot, I do have Rick Steve’s Mediterranean Cruise Ports book. Although it’s starting to look like we’ll just make it another beach day or take the water taxi to town and walk around the shops.
  9. The first I was asking which would be the best beach day. I was planning on doing that at the port with shipwreck beach but later found out it’s closed. While I love a beautiful beach, I was hoping to find more to do at these ports than go to beaches. My dh goes along to beaches with me all along the Caribbean, but I’m sure he doesn’t want to do that at multiple ports in Greece. Is there anything else to do here? I searched a few pages and it was all about beaches.
  10. That is correct. Are they completely safe being left behind? I have to say that scares me a bit.
  11. I planned on going to this beach in Zakynthos. Now I see it’s closed at this moment. Is it expected to change next summer or does this seem like a more permanent change? What else is there to do there? Are cruise ships still going there with it closed?
  12. Thank you! Yes- off the ship in the AM, tour all day and night, spend the night in Venice and take the train to Rome the next day. Not sure what time. I can’t imagine not wanting to do it once we get there. It’s the first thing that comes to mind when I think of Venice. Why? I don’t know how we’re getting from Trieste to Venice. We’ll look at both cost and convenience. I don’t see us flying to Rome. I’m terrified of flying! I can’t imagine getting on a smaller plane!! Thanks!
  13. Is there anything to do here besides see the windmills and the beach?
  14. True, but I don’t it will be an issue. I just need to find out what the appropriate procedure is.
  15. We settled on a ship excursion. Booked one that looks like it will immerse us in their culture a bit, which would be cool!
  16. That's a valid point. I thought it might look pretty at night with all the lights too. We would arrive that way from the ship, I assume. But I wouldn't want to have to go out of our way the next morning before getting the train. How far is the train station? I assume it would be safe left there. How much would that be? Money is a consideration!
  17. I don't even see superior double with small balcony as an option. Was balcony listed in the description when you booked the room? I want this room!! I even tried on my computer and can't see them. I can see the two you just posted. Do you have a picture of the interior of your room?
  18. Is it that difficult to bring luggage on them? I was hoping to stay where everything is so we could walk around at night close to our hotel. I wouldn’t want to be too far from it and night, get lost and end up in a bad area. Is anything in that area? Is that near the train station? That doesn’t seem like very long. I was hoping it was for an hour. Will 30 minutes seem like enough? I take it it’s better at night since it’s more expensive then.
  19. I just see a question mark in a box. Anyone else?
  20. Good to know. Thanks! We haven’t decided what time we will head to Rome on day 2. We should get there early one day 1 and have a full day. I was thinking about catching a 10:30 AM train but we could catch a later one. We have 3 nights booked in Rome. Should we spend 2 full days in Venice and leave 2 full days in Rome or 1 and 3? Sounds good! This sounds wonderful! Thanks!! The coffee shop looked really cool in a video I watched. Not a must do. I did see the prices. 🤦🏼‍♀️ Thanks for the idea with the wine. Sounds perfect! Did I mention we’ll be celebrating our 30th anniversary? Doesn’t get much more romantic than this!! How long does it last for 100 euros? 😂😂😂 I’ll keep that in mind. Lol
  21. I agree. We’re traveling with friends and thought I should discuss with them first.
  22. Thanks! I do recall seeing that now that you mention it.
