  1. Good morning. I am going to try the first recipe today or tomorrow, thank you Debbie @dfish. We were in Hilo on the all time best cruise to Hawaii on the Veendam . We went to see the mud pots and volcanoes in the park. My legal name of Theresa is never used if I can help it but it means to harvest and restore. Hmmm… I was always fascinated by the periodic table . Yes, there is a nerd factor here. I salute all veterans including my DB and nephew. Thank you to Jacqui @kazu and Karen @luvteaching for your perspectives. I have many teary days for no apparent “reason” and find myself going over various situations in my head. I hope I did all I could at the time and so appreciate your strong support. It is a process I guess. I am glad to see that Sam rebounded. Sorry about the sore thumb, Debbie. I hope @catmando and @marshhawk are feeling ok today. Take care everyone
  2. @cat shepard, DD and I realized early on in Lou’s illness that he really was way too sick and could not safely advocate for himself. He was a retired social worker and was very upset about this. We also found that vital meds were not given and had to watch things carefully. Today I think we are still processing the experience nowadays as it was incredibly stressful. However, I keep reminding myself that we all did the best we could under extraordinary circumstances and I am sure you are doing that as well. It is a fine line to walk between getting things done for the patient and irritating the staff! Sending many hugs to all of you!
  3. @Heartgrove, Jack, I am so sorry to read of Sam’s condition. It is so difficult to say goodbye to them and his time with you was so short. @ottahand7, Nancy, I meant to mention earlier that I am glad the surgery went well and hope the pain wasn’t too awful last night.
  4. Good morning. It is pouring here and will reach a high of 48 later. i have not been to the port and the recipe sounds good. Many years ago I had a patient with a spinal cord injury who had dissociative identity disorder. It. was a very difficult rehab process. @Quartzsite Cruiser, Lenda, a very Happy Birthday to Steve! @marshhawk, Annie, I hope the surgery goes well and I am thinking of you both today. @cat shepard,Ann,I hope your sister is feeling better today. Hugs to you both. Have a good day today
  5. @StLouisCruisers, Sandi, I am so happy to hear your DGD found a better area and apartment. I hope she starts to feel better soon.
  6. @rafinmd, Roy, I was very glad to see your good news!
  7. Good morning. It will get to 60 later and is now sunny and 48. We are all caregivers in this house and it can be exhausting. I agree with @cunnorl, Charlene, that it is also very rewarding and certainly shows me daily what is really important. I have not been to the port and will pass on the soup. Caring for ears and our hearing is very important. @0106, Tina, Bon Voyage to you both! I was so glad to read that baby Murphy is home and glad they have nursing assistance . @cat shepard, Ann, I am sorry to read about your DS’s significant complications and hope she can improve. It is great that she is eating real food. It is very hard to watch those we love go through these things. We have a busy day here but the general mood improves greatly with abundant sunshine. Dinner tonight will be bean and cheese enchiladas which is always welcome. Enjoy the day wherever you are.
  8. Good morning. It is raining and 40 going up to a possible 50. The aide who was to come today is sick with a stomach virus so we are hustling here. It has been a busy morning but hopefully will quiet down. All of DD and DSIL’s cats are rescues. They keep us very entertained. There is a lot of old stuff here, including me. I will pass on the spicy lentils and would love banana cream pie if someone would make it. @kazu, I read about your terrible and latest storm and the pictures certainly show the devastation. I can relate to time of year and month. i hope today is a little better and I am sorry that you are in pain. @StLouisCruisers, I used to do needlepoint and knitting until my arthritis demanded I stop. I know how long these projects take. It is beautiful!
  9. That is so nice that you and DH picked me up! The Catskills are beautiful and maybe we found a lake or two to float around in. Thank you for the good laugh!
  10. Good morning. It is another chilly start to the day at 27 going to 44 . There is still some wind to make it feel cooler. I will celebrate sleeping babies and can attest to the pain of endometriosis. Someone can have my peanut butter , i know, I am an oddball. The quote is a true one and timely. We were in this port only once and I took a HAL trip to Portofino via a small boat. DD DH was not feeling well and would have felt worse on the small boat in the rough waves. Thank you Sandi @StLouisCruisers for the beautiful pictures. I guess the waves can be rough there often. I walked around the pretty town after climbing the cliff with the tour group. It was such a nice day and a gorgeous part of the world. @kazu, Jacqui, I was sorry to read late last night that you were not feeling well. I hope today is better. @JazzyV, Vanessa, I am very happy to read of your overall decrease in pain and hope it continues. @Seasick Sailor, So glad to see you back and love the outfits for Oliver. He has a lot of personality! Enjoy the day everyone
  11. @grapau27, Graham, I am touched by your kind comment.Thank you. @Quartzsite Cruiser, Linda, thank you so much for your lovely words. @lazey1, I am so happy to hear that you are feeling a little better and hope you can enjoy the cruise. @aliaschief, Bruce, A very Happy Birthday!
  12. I met my DH after my first marriage ended . I was alone with my son. He was also divorced with custody of DD and Tana . Tana was his first wife’s child. The children grew up together. I have been fortunate with my blended family. DD is technically a step child but it is so much more than that. To further confuse you, Tana’s son calls me Grandma and I am very proud.Technically we are not related. But in my heart we are all one family.
  13. Good morning. The wind was howling last night and it is still quite gusty. Many years ago DD DH and I took teenaged DD and Tana to see David Bowie. It was one of the best concerts ever and he certainly was never boring. @cat shepard, I am so happy to read that your sister is progressing and her son is here for her as well. It is exhausting to support a hospital patient as well as clean up her home. Tana and I always appreciate your good wishes. I hope you all get a chance to rest today. Today I am thinking about getting the ingredients for the recipe and making it tomorrow. Thank you for the recipes Debbie @dfish @puppycanducruise, Melanie, I am thinking of you today as you remember your brother. @rafinmd, I hope the medication change helps you to feel better and that the valve clinic is beneficial. Please take care today. It is quite the world we are living in these days.
  14. Thank you so much for your pictures and commentary. It sounds like a wonderful experience, except for the bugs and heat!
  15. Thank you Graham @grapau27! We send our best wishes back to you and Pauline. And Sarah.
  16. Good morning. It is raining and 51 degrees going up to a high of 60. Happy Anniversary to @superoma! I love the picture. @cat shepard, Ann, I am hoping that your sister is feeling better after her surgery. Sending prayers her way. I will celebrate pockets and inconveniencing yourself. Thanks to Graham @grapau27 for the explanations. I have not been to the port and will pass on the meal. I made two quiches for dinner later to please the vegetarians and carnivores. Things have been a little less hectic here and we are regrouping somewhat. I was able to find a private aide for one weekend day and hope that helps. Have a great day everyone!
  17. Good morning from a cloudy and warming NY, going up to the fifties from 38. It took Tana almost two years to have her sense of smell restored in a partial way after her initial COVID bout. Polar bears are to be celebrated and my DH loved kahlua . The quote is a good one, I don’t really like lamb and I have not been to the port. @summer slope, Dixie, I am glad your procedure went well and hope you can heal quickly. @marshhawk, Annie, I am so glad you are back home with us. 12 days to fix the cable must have felt twice as long. Have a great day today everyone!
  18. @cat shepard, Ann, sending prayers for your sister and for you.
  19. @dobiemom and @bennybear. Marcia and Brenda, thank you so much.
  20. @grapau27, Thank you Graham. I love the pictures of your North Sea beaches. I often go to one of the river towns and watch my Hudson go by. There are two parks that have close proximity to the water. @StLouisCruisers, Sandi, even when we know the end is near for those we love it still a shock. You have a very big heart too.
  21. @StLouisCruisers,Sandi, condolences to your friends and to you and DH . Sending prayers as well. Thank you all for your kind thoughts today. That includes @Quartzsite Cruiser, @dfish, @RMLincoln, @Haljo1935, @JazzyV. I hope I didn’t miss anyone.
  22. Good morning. I remember the lady with the logs from “Twin Peaks “ but not much more. The recipe looks good, thank you Debbie @dfish! I have not been to the port and only partially agree with the quote. It is sunny and forty degrees today. It felt really good earlier to be walking in the sun without being cold doing it. My dog buddies were so happy to be out exploring the melting snow. @RMLincoln, I was glad to read that your DH is slowly improving and things are going well. Sorry to hear about your pain symptoms. My brother recently moved to Connecticut from Albuquerque and told me irately that “ everything is more painful here”. I have always chalked it up to the weather and living at sea level. He misses the mountains but wanted to be closer to family. @ottahand7, I really enjoyed reading about your cruise adventures and loved the moonlight wake picture. Thank you! @puppycanducruise, I find Britbox very entertaining also and loved “Brokeback Mysteries”. I have been watching old David Tennant series and enjoying them too. @JazzyV, I hope you get consistent pain relief very soon. We are rather stressed here on the weekends especially as we care for Tana and our teenager. We are all so tired that it has been a little tense as we muddle through. Yesterday I took the car out and drove nowhere exciting just to be alone for a bit. Dinner last night was a relief as we all tried to find something comical to lighten the mood. Sorry, I often feel it is better not to say much about all of this as it is such a strain. DH had a gift for finding something ridiculous to laugh at and we all miss that skill.
  23. @Mr. BostonHappy Birthday to your DH! and @lindaler a very Happy Birthday as well.
  24. Good morning. I will salute those standing up to bullies and once knew a man who found a curling club somewhere In our county. DD made oatmeal cookies last week and told her sister they were good for breakfast. It reminded me of when they were growing up and as teenagers developed interesting eating habits. I always left early for work and DD DH was in charge of breakfast. I found out years later what constituted breakfast! We rented a car at the Kona port stop and had a great day exploring beautiful beaches. I am sad that pictures are unavailable now . It is great to see all the other pictures. Enjoy the day everyone.
