This past May, we docked at Icy Strait, Juneau and Ketchikan- no tendering....

which should I check in as: Platinum or with Casinos at Sea? Is one more beneficial than the other?

Anyone have current list for the Gem? And concierge? Thanks....

You can do it 2 ways, $20 per person and play a $3.00 max bet machine at 5 or 6 spins and use the overage for a side bet. (Side bet goes to the person who wins the most money in their spins) or you can do 4 spins at a $5 max bet machine with no side bet.
Speak to the casino host on day one and they will probably donate a bottle or 2 of wine and you can give that to the big winner instead of a side bet. Just let them know what time to expect you, also do a walk through the casino to pick your machine (I never let the casino pick it for me). When picking your machine take into account the amount of people you will have and try not to pick a machine that will block hallways.
As far as tracking the people/money, set up a spreadsheet with screenname, real name, paid (use checkmark as ppl pay you) and the following columns “spin 1,spin 2, spin 3 etc to how many spins you plan on using. As people spin on the machine write in the amounts of their wins and tally those as you go along. You can email me at iimmie@yahoo.com if you like and I can send you a spreadsheet I keep and you can edit the way you like.
Thanks I would appreciate a copy of the spread sheet if you can send to kmc86kmc@aol.com . Thanks for the tips!

As far as upgrade, we are Platinum with NCL and won Our bid from balcony to mini suite. We bid $75 so they charge for first 2 in cabin so it cost me $150. I felt it was worth it for the larger bathroom. We were notified of bid acceptance 19 days before the cruise last November.

On the Jewel there was a heavy curtain separating bedroom from living room.

Grand Pacific is much larger with a more open feeling. Large windows in the rear. Magenta is smaller, low ceilings. Food and service both good, just a different atmosphere.

Anyone have current list of senior staff/ concierge for the Gem?

Had a very rainy, cold few days on our May alaska trip....never used my umbrella too windy- but definitely needed a waterproof hooded rain jacket!! Also bring gloves, one in our group ended up using a pair of socks on his hands...lol...always carried a backpack to hold jackets when not needed....

Recently cruised the Breakaway with a broken foot in a boot....no issues....was able to remove to go in ocean but we never made it to the private island....also saw another women who had just broken her foot before thecruise and she was zipping around with her knee scooter. The staff and crew are always willing to assist so as long as cleared by your doctor, I would go and enjoy as much as possible....good luck...contact cruise line if you may need a wheelchair so that can be arranged ahead of time...

I’m looking to book a cruise on the Gem. I don’t have a free cruise through CAS but they offered me 20 % discount. Will I still get the free drink card for the casino since I’m booking through CAS? Calling them tomorrow but thought someone may have the answer. Thanks!

We had Bruno as our concierge on the Jewel in May to Alaska. We were in the owners suite and he was always available to us. Provided anything we asked for, met us getting on and off the ship. He even came to our cabin as we cruised the glaciers to take family photos of us on deck with the glaciers in background. No complaints at all. Actually got much more personalized service from Bruno than from Prem or Ruth . Loved Florentina, Kadek and Carlos in the past. I do find better concierge service on smaller Jewel class ships than -away class ships. Just traveled in mini suite on Breakaway through CAS...we are Platinum and were never once contacted by concierge or given any contact info. Disappointed that they advertise concierge service as a perk for platinum customers but if you’re not in the Haven, you are ignored.....

Was on Breakaway two weeks ago and saw the card in the buffet announcing that night was prime rib night....

Would definitely recommend a Haven suite to get all the perks and assistance you need, you will be treated like royalty. But, if that isn’t possible, I would recommend a smaller ship, like the Jewel class, because they aren’t so crowded and I feel they are more personal. The Gem is my favorite- great staff and nice layout. Best of luck ....

Was on Breakaway this past week and Christmas decorations went up midweek...

Just getting off the Breakaway, they had crew talent show yesterday in the theater...

thank you...

I know this has been asked before but is there a way of knowing what configuration is in my mini suite on Breakaway cabin 12800. Bed or sofa near balcony...thanks for your help ...

Traveled on the Jewel in May, loved it, we prefer these jewel class ships- perfect size. Staff was great, and yes, restaurant manager Noel Chavez, was fantastic! We stayed in owners suite and definitely needs to be updated...

We found Ruth to be very distant, I guess everyone's experience is different....

About 20-30 minutes after you leave the pier, the ship will pass the Statue of Liberty which you can view from the starboard side of the ship, you will pass lower Manhattan and the Freedom Tower on port side and then pass under the Verrazano Natrows Bridge which can be seen from any outside deck...you will probably pass a Staten Island ferry traveling from Manhattan to Staten Island....
