This was the first time had issue with laundry.  I sent some cotton tshirts and a dark blue came back faded and looked as if it had bleach spots.  Showed cabin attendant and he brought it back restored!

Hoping we can sail again in February.

Glad you enjoyed your cruise...did the laundry correct the fading?  What did they do?  I started to send my husband's shirt back, but figured nothing could be done to restore the original color.

My husband is diabetic. Can we request sugar free desserts at dinner or should we contact special needs prior to our cruise?
Thanks in advance and happy and SAFE holidays to all

I would still contact special needs, and let your waiter or maitre d know on the first day and they will bring you menus for every dinner and help you pick.

The stuff on the pastry is part of a traditional Beef Wellington... I had to google it since my sister makes this..not me...queen of the processed foods.... it is called "Duxelles"..it is a mixture of mushrooms, shallots, garlic and parsley... probably other stuff involved. I suspect yours had too much of this and that might have made the pastry a bit mushy...

Yes, it did have too much!  Didn't even taste any of those ingredients you mention, which I like, but the texture made it feel yucky!  Thanks for letting me know what that is, have never had it on a Welli before!

We didn't notice a spacing issue...but that might have been because DH has trouble walking and we were seated by the railing near the hostess station with no one near. I had no issues with the food... frankly anything someone else prepares is always at least a few stars...:)  I must have been oblivious to the various protocol violations I keep reading about. I just can't imagine being on the crew stuck on a ship for months at a time forced to wear masks morning to night and not being able to get off at any port. Sounds like hell to me.  If you want to talk about social distancing.. I hear comments about vans and dining rooms..but did anyone notice how packed in everyone was when we got off the ship..and the pushing and shoving.. no 6' there for sure...but if the ship had tried to force it.. I don't believe that passengers would have complied.

You are correct...tours were packed on the vans and buses.  All of the staff/crew wore masks except when I took their pics, so no one should use my pics to say they didn't wear masks as implied by another reader.  Even those working outside wore their masks.  In talking to crew, they can leave the ship, but only on a ship's crew tour and they still have to wear masks.

That's a very worrying post, from the quality of the food (why do Celebrity continue with this awful Beef Wellington with soggy pastry which I have sent back several times) to the non mask wearing staff, did I see one with it on her tunic button?  No excuse for not having distanced tables with current capacity - it should be a given without need to request.

Let me be clear...all of the staff/crew wore masks and wore them correctly, except when I took their pics.  As far as I could see, tables were spaced out for social distancing; not sure where you read that, but not in my review.  This was the first time the Beef Wellington had that stuff on the pastry.  Normally all of the Beef Wellingtons I've gotten on Celebrity have been good.

Yes.  I am diabetic as well and there are some sugar free options on the menu and sugar free ice cream in the buffet.  Really good, too!  I would get the sugar free ice cream and sugar free peanut butter cookie in the buffet on our most recent Silhouette cruise.  Be sure to request the sugar free peanut  butter cookie because they have both.

  7. We love Celebrity and are Diamond with RCCL.  We switched a few years ago and are Elite with X.  I think the shows are at the very least equal unless you are on one of RCCL'S bigger ships like the Oasis.

Come back and let us know what you think.

We were on the Silhouette earlier this month, and, pre-cruise, made reservations in the Cruise Planner for dinner in the MDR for the nights we expected to eat there. The reservations all showed up in our calendar on the app, and remained there during the cruise. There were about 1300 pax on our cruise.  In terms of social distancing in the MDR, you can insist on being seated at one of the two-tops in the back half of the MDR, where the tables are spaced out and tables between them are blocked off. This seemed to be a big secret on our cruise, and we were told by the MDR host that no such tables existed and to come back in 20 minutes if we didn’t want to eat on top of others. I’d read here on CC to ask for the Maitre d’ if this happened. We did so; a gentleman came over, and suddenly we were walked to the back half of the MDR, where we were startled to see numerous, empty, distanced tables, and only a few people eating. We were seated immediately.

We had about that same number of passengers.  I made our reservations on the Planner as well, but then had to lift and shift because of Covid so it was a year later when we finally cruised.  The reservations did not show up on the app.  We were seated in back as well and we loved our wait team.  They had that whole section.

Thanks Terre, for your review. We are on Silly t the end of January. It’s really our first time in the MDR on an S-class ship. Did I understand you to say that reservations made online prior to the cruise disappeared? We are doing a dining pkg and trying to decide whether or not to make a reservation for the nights we think we will eat in th MDR. We are really pretty easy-going, but would not be happy about waiting 90 minutes and I have concerns about flexibility and social distancing. My DH and our TA sort of elected Select, I think I would have gone for traditional if I’d been asked.

I had booked our dining time in the Planner once that opened up, but we had to lift and shift because of Covid after that so I guess that messed everything up.   After we talked to the maitre d we were seated way in the back and the tables were not all filled.  We just had to get fussy with the maitre d to make the reservations for us at the time we wanted.  It could have been the app.

Terre, We were on Sillie for those 3 weeks as Elite plus. Worst X cruise of over 30. Especially poor food. My friend chose cruise. Marginal itin too. I think most of crew was newbies but also were not properly trained. Also not fully staffed.  I enjoyed C"estCeBon and their girl singer. We would sit on the balcony and see them most nights prior to dinner. I would say they and the buffet food were only highlights. I would never go on that ship again and alert cruisers with reservations inside cancellation period to consider changing ships. We always ask for COLD WATER and hang clothing in wire hangers; it works.

I thought the food in the buffet was good as well.  We have it booked for March which we lifted and shifted from March of this year.  I do know from talking with our cabin stewardess that they were short staffed and it was turn around so many of the staff had left and new staff had come on.  They just didn't enough staff in the dining room period.  Overall, I didn't think it was terrible, just some inconveniences.

We are on in March.  Thanks for your review.

We are, too!  It will be our lift and shift cruise from this year and our 50th anniversary cruise.  I hope Omicron doesn't mess this one up!  We will be on it March 7th through the 18th.

    Thanks for the review.

I am concerned about your difficulties being seated and reserving Select dining.  Is this normal on Celebrity?  We prefer to vary dining times to suit our schedule, but the reported long waits and lack of reservations are unsettling, particularly when the ships are being run below capacity.  Is standard seating a better option?

Davy, no this is not typical with Celebrity.  I believe it was because there were only a little over 1,000 passengers, and they were short staffed like every other business due to COVID.  We have never had this issue in all of our Celebrity cruises.  I would say that 98% of the food we got from the MDR was good; we just made some bad choices ordering.  I think when they are running full capacity it will be like it used to be.  At least I hope so, as we are sailing her again in March.  I'm not sure if using the app was the issue with reserving or not, but no matter what time I tried to reserve, I got a message that it was full.  The app is great for most things, but for this.  (Not as good as Carnival's app!)

  13. Well, I finally got this review finished.  Sorry for being so late, but when we got home there was unpacking, Christmas decorations, etc. to get done and it took me a few days to get it done.  I hope you enjoy...

    Silhouette Review

    Dates:  November 22—December 3, 2021

Itinerary:  Fort Lauderdale, Nassau, Bonaire, Curacao, Colombia

Original Itinerary:  Fort Lauderdale, Grand Cayman, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, Roatan, Costa Maya

    Captain:  Michael Sympouras

    Cruise Director:  Angela Kristensen

Pre-cruise Stay:  Embassy Suites, Fort Lauderdale

    IMG_3497(3)

If you’ve read my reviews before, then you know that I write in sections so you can skip over anything you don’t care reading about.  Ready?  Here we go…

    Pre-cruise Stay

Our vacation began on November 21st out of Charlotte to Fort Lauderdale.  We had to go in a day before because our flight on the 22nd got changed and the change wouldn’t work for the cruise.  It was actually nice not to be rushed on embarkation day.

We stayed at the Embassy Suites in Fort Lauderdale.  I had booked its Shuttle to pick us up from the airport and to take us to the cruise terminal the next morning.  It’s $18pp for each. As soon as we landed at FLL airport, the shuttle driver was calling me.  He called me several times while we were waiting for our luggage, and it was nice to know he was there. This may be overpriced, but again, I felt it was worth it to not have to rush or wait for a taxi.  We made our reservation for the cruise terminal based on our reservation with Celebrity, which was 11:30.  We were scheduled for the first shuttle at 10:30.  It actually arrived a little early, which I was glad about because there was a lot of luggage to load on that shuttle!

The Embassy Suites is very nice and I loved that all the rooms faced into the courtyard below.  We also had a very small balcony that you can see out of as well.  We got there in time for Happy Hour! and had a few drinks before dinner.  We got settled into our room and unpacked just what we needed that night and the next morning.

For dinner, we walked over to a mall area behind the hotel and ate at Labama.  It’s Mexican, and was okay, not the best Mexican I’ve had, but was good enough.

Our complimentary breakfast was a full hot foods breakfast buffet, which is served to you, and included eggs, bacon, sausage, fruit, yogurts, pastries, toast, waffles, pancakes, hash browns…you name it and it was probably on the list!  Breakfast is served in the courtyard.  When we checked in I asked if there was a complimentary breakfast and the lady at the desk said there is, but it used to be better.  Better?  How in the world could it be any better!

The courtyard is really pretty with plants and waterfalls all around it.  The pool is surrounded by plants and waterfalls.  It also has a large koi pond near the pool.  You will need your key card to get back inside from the pool area.

So it’s time to board the shuttle and head for the cruise terminal, here we go!

    Our Cabin

We had a category 1A cabin on the 8th deck, 8248.  The balcony was typical, small with two chairs and a small round table.  We enjoyed it as there were no passengers on either side of us or anywhere to be seen, actually.  Our cabin stewardess, Jaqueline, was so wonderful and so sweet!  She said we were the only ones she had on that deck and her cabins were spread all over the ship.  No assistant, either.  We told her that she didn’t have to clean it in the mornings, just in the evening, and really not then.  She cleaned very well every evening and made the bed so tight you could barely get the covers pulled back!  She was so good, she even folded up our clothes and neatened up the stuff we had all over the dresser top!  We enjoyed talking with her.  She is from South Africa and was going back home a week after this cruise.  Her husband worked on the ship as well.

    Food and Dining

We had select dining and a complimentary specialty restaurant as a perk.  The main dining room food was bad to okay to good.  Embarkation Night was prime rib and we were looking forward to some good prime rib.  We were very disappointed that not only was it not tasty, it was a terrible experience.  We tried to be seated around 6:00, but were given a pager and told to wait in the lounge.  At 7:30, we went back down to see if a table was ready and they seated us, but I don’t think they wanted to.  Dinner just tasted like it had been sitting and not good.  Bread sticks were stale, the prime rib had been cut off on one end and had no flavor.  I ordered my prime rib medium and got a medium rare.  My husband ordered a medium well and got the same thing I did.  My husband’s cheese cake tasted old, and when we complained they told us we needed to make reservations for dinner.  But we thought Select Dining was when we wanted to come.  The Maitre d’ made them for us for the next night for 6:00, which is the time we wanted.

     Buffet

    buffet_3211(2).JPG

So Day Two’s dinner was better.  We had the same servers and table, and they were great!  Kenneth from Kenya and Bibi from Mauritius.  I  had roasted trout and my husband had sirloin and apple pie a la mode for dessert.  My trout was pretty good. I tried to make reservations later that night for the next day, but all times were full, nothing left.

Day Three:  For lunch I can’t remember if we ate in the main dining room or the buffet.  I had mushroom soup, Satay beef & chicken skewers, and spaghetti bolognaise sauce.  Loved all of it!

Dinner:  I complained when we got to the dining room that I couldn’t get a reservation and asked if the lady would make them for me.  She said she couldn’t and you could only make the reservation the day before.  Well, we tried and couldn’t get one.  The maitre d’ said he couldn’t do it for us either.  We showed our behinds a little and the maitre d’ came over while we were eating and said he was able to get the rest of the cruise reserved for us at 6:00.  We are now happy!  I had actually made them on line when they opened up before the cruise but I guess that all got cancelled.

Our dinner tonight consisted of beef tornedo, crab cakes, corn soup, apple crumble, phyllo dough tulips with orange cream fruit.  All of this was delicious.  I loved the crab cakes, ohmigosh, I wish I’d gotten two orders.  The corn soup was a very smooth, velvety soup that just tasted so good, and my tulips were cute and flavorful as well.

    IMG_3349.JPG

Day Four, Thanksgiving Day:  Dinner consisted of butternut squash soup, Steak Diane, and for dessert I had maple pumpkin pie and my husband had pecan pie.  They had a traditional turkey dinner on the menu, but we both opted for the Steak Diane which was so good…cooked perfectly and the soup was again, a smooth, rich flavor that made your taste buds dance!  My maple pumpkin pie was really good, and my husband liked his pecan pie.

    Steak Diane

    IMG_3384_2.JPG

Day Five:   Day five brought us a beautiful mâche salad, French onion soup, grilled chicken breast, pasta chimayo linguine, which is shrimp in a lobster sauce.  Lava cake and sugar free chocolate ice cream were our dessert.

    Lava Cake

    IMG_3465_2.JPG

Day Six:  Dinner this night was very good.  I had a spinach and artichoke dip appetizer, wild mushroom and barley soup, and grilled snapper.  My husband had brisket.  For dessert he had apple pie, and I had the macadamia pie.  Ohmigosh, y’all!  That pie was to die for!

Day Seven:  For day seven, we used our complimentary specialty restaurant perk and ate in the Lawn Club Grill.  It’s very nice there, you can see the grill and the flames shooting to the ceiling!  The salad bar was very good; you pick out what you want and they will put it all in your bowl for you.  For my app, I had a shrimp & scallop kebob…sooo good!  We both had the fillet mignon which was delicious and cooked to perfection!  The flavors were so good on this steak, it almost melted in your mouth.  For dessert I had the carrot cake, another good choice, and my husband had the hot out of the oven chocolate chip cookie ice cream!  He loved it.

Day Eight:  Lunch today was in the dining room.  My app was crisp fried mushrooms, another ohmigosh! food.  So delicious I could have eaten a bunch of them!  Chilled cream of potato & fennel soup, and whole wheat spaghetti pomodoro.  I loved all of it!  The soup was scrumptious with that smooth texture and creamy potato flavor that I love!  You cannot go wrong with this soup.  My husband’s lunch consisted of BBQ pork ribs, which he loved, and a brownie sundae.

Dinner was a double beef consommé soup that was really good, and beef bourguignon, another scrumptious dish, sea bass, another delicious dish, and chocolate cake.

Day Nine:  Srawberry soup, crispy salt cod bacalao croquettes – all very good, and crab crusted flounder (yuck).

Day Ten:  Lunch in the buffet was very good.  I got BBQ meatballs and my husband got BBQ ribs.  Dinner in the MDR was smoked tomato bisque – smooth and creamy – lobster tail, and Beef Wellington.  Not much to the lobster tail so you may want to get multiple lobster tails, or get the Wellington to go with it.  This Wellington was not as good as the traditional Wellington…it had something spread on the pastry before cooking and I just didn’t like the texture or the taste.  My pastry also fell apart from my Wellington; I don’t think it was completely cooked.  The steak itself was good though.

    IMG_3704_2(1).JPG

Day Eleven:  Dinner consisted of Cream of broccoli soup, pasta primavera and spare rib stew for my husband.

Mast Grill:  We ate lunch at the Mast Grill one day and I thought it was just okay.  I’m not a “foodie” by any means, but I didn’t like the hot dog I got from there.  My husband didn’t like his hamburger either.  (I think he wanted a Guy’s Burger…)

Café:  We got some little sweets from there and coffee one morning to take with us to breakfast since the coffee in the dining room was never hot.

Spa Café:  We got some sandwiches here that were good.

    Entertainment

Entertainment was pretty good.  We had fun at the little games played around the ship, in particular in the Sky Lounge.  I actually got to participate in a game of Friendly Feud!

So shows/entertainment we watched in the theater were: Dan Wilson, a comedian, who was very funny.  He had the first night’s G rated show and later in the cruise he had an adults only show which was equally as funny and not too raunchy;  we also saw James Cielen, a magician who did sleight of hand magic.  We sat on the front row and could not see how he did these tricks.  If you like this kind of magic, you will certainly like this magician; the Silhouette Production Cast Singers & Dancers did a good job of Groovy, Baby! which took us back to the ‘60s – the best music ever, right?; Carol’s Kings was another singing act of Carol King songs.  They gave us some history of Carol King along with singing some of the songs she had written for others and ones she recorded herself.  Not the greatest tribute I’ve seen, but not bad enough to miss seeing.  I enjoyed it simply because I love Carol King and all of her songs. It will take you back to those good ol’ days!

Karen Grainger also had an act and since we’ve seen her a couple of other times, we did not go to this show.  If you have not seen her, you will want to.  She is funny and very talented doing impressions of singers.  She’s very good at this and amazing at how well she sounds like the people she does an impression of.  Other people we talked to who went, loved it.

Acapella Group Vocal Flash was the worst show we saw.  It was a group of three guys and two women.  Although they sang a capella, two of guys did musical noises and I got bored with the Baugh Baugh Baugh after the second song.  Not to mention I thought the women were terrible singers.  We talked to another couple who felt the same way.  We only saw one couple leave during the performance, and we did sit through this, but I would not go to see them again.

The next production show, Cosmopolitan… I honestly don’t remember anything about this show, sorry.

Another act in the theater that you won’t want to miss is Cheaza – Whitney Tribute.  Oh my gosh!  She was wonderful, and sang Whitney Houston songs so flawlessly you will think you’re at a Whitney concert.  Trust me, if you loved Whitney, you will love this show.  She brought tears to my eyes just listening to her sing.

The next production show was Life.  Again, I don’t remember the show, but I remember the magnificent aerialists.  They were awesome doing all their high flying acts!  You will enjoy watching them.

There was a pianist, Tian Jiang who we did not see.  I’m just not a fan of sitting for an hour listening to a piano.  We also did not see Ballroom Duo – Alex and Magdalena or Musical Duo – Celli.

Sky Lounge Games included Friendly Feud – The Return, Smarter than an Activity Host, Who’s the Cuckoo, Game show:  Heads Up!, Game show:  Charades, Game show:  Full Steam Ahead!, Game show:  Whisper Challenge, Game show:  Majority Rules, and True or False with Dom & Vish (activities team).  All of these games were fun to watch and play.  We did some Trivia games with facts, songs, and other things as well.  You will love Smarter than an Activity Host, Majority Rules, and True or False, all with the activities team.

Angela, the Cruise Director and the activities team do a really good job with these activities.  We actually remembered Dom from our Equinox cruise in 2019, and talked with him a little about that ship.

    IMG_3334(1).JPG

On Board Singers:  We listened to several bands and soloists around the ship.  My favorite was The Cardinals, who sang in several venues.  They are excellent, however, I got tired of the same songs over and over every night in each venue.  The Storytellers were pretty good, Bryony Drake played in the Ensemble Lounge some and we listened to her while at our favorite bar getting drinks from our favorite bartender, I Putu. C’est Si Bon was very good and we enjoyed them.

    Ports of Call

Now for what you’ve all been waiting for!  I must warn you, we’ve been to all these places several times so we didn’t get off the ship at some ports.

    Nassau:  Didn’t get off Ship

Bonaire:  Didn’t get off Ship only because they required you to wear a mask and show your vax card.  We did not want to wear the mask in such a hot climate.  Last time there we reserved a golf cart with Bonaire Cruisers and drove around the entire island.  It was so much fun!  It’s not a ship’s excursion, but if you don’t mind venturing out on your own, it’s a fun thing.  You can stop when and where you want for those great photo ops!

Curacao:  We did go into town just because we love Curacao.  It’s such a pretty place and the bridge is neat and I love walking around.  They were just beginning to put up the Christmas decorations, but when we were there a few years ago at the same time, they had so many things around the island in the way of Christmas decorations.  I’m sure the next week was full blown Christmas!  In the past we have done an island tour, a Sea and See tour (island tour and a submarine tour), walked around, etc.

Aruba:  We docked at the freight yards across from the usual spot downtown, so we didn’t get off.  The shuttle they provided only took you the guard shack that you can actually walk to.  Not being at the downtown area was a bummer for us.  We love to go to the mall and walk around, check messages from home, etc.  If you have not been here before, you do need to book an excursion.  There are a lot of fun things to do in Aruba and we’ve done them all so that’s why we now just walk to the mall.

Columbia:  We visited Cartagena two years ago and did a city tour with Dora, a private tour, which was very nice.  It is extremely hot there and learning our lesson from before, we were prepared.  We decided to book a ship’s excursion in Cartagena which was the National Bird Aviary.  We took extra bottles of water this time, as well as a dry towel and a wet wash cloth in a baggie.  Trust me, it came in handy.  The weather is very hot and humid and if you’re not used to that kind of climate it can be brutal.  We have hot humid weather in the summer, but nothing even close to here.  The aviary was really neat.  They have 1900 different species, I think I read that, and many of them were here.  Some of the neatest in my opinion, were the macaws, toucans, and the peacocks.  Of course nothing beat the condor when she spread her wings!  We saw a short show, which was a nice break from walking, but not from the heat.  There are many things you can do here, so read up on them all and then make a decision.

    IMG_3634(1).JPG

    Miscellaneous

Laundry:  We each had a free bag of laundry as part of our Loyalty perks so like we always do, we sent some of my husband’s t-shirts and underwear.  Never had a problem in the past, but this time, his shirts came back with oily-type stains all over the shirts, his beautiful blue t-shirt came back a lavender color, and my white underwear were all gray.  I know they use extremely hot water and we usually don’t send anything really good, but c’mon…oily stains that weren’t there before!  What’s up with that!?  Luckily, once home, my handy dandy Dawn dishwashing soap did the trick and got the oily stains out, but nothing could be done about the faded shirt.  Lesson:  don’t send anything that you really care about to the laundry.

Persian Garden:  Another loyalty perk is the Persian Garden.  We like going there on a port day and using the heated chairs.  It’s always nice after a long day of walking.  These chairs, however, did not get very hot, nor did they stay hot.  I finally went out and asked about them, and one of the girls came in to check.  She asked other people if theirs were hot and they all said no.  She left and soon after my chair got so hot, I began to sweat!  This ship does not have the cold room which I missed.  It’s nice to sit in there after the hot chairs!

Free Wifi Minutes:  We also had free 90 minutes of free wifi which we used up.  You actually use more than you think just getting logged on.

Lifeboat Drill:  You watch the drill on TV then go to your muster station and check in that you watched.  You were marked off and that was it.

Well folks, that’s all.  Sorry it is so long, but I wanted to give you a glimpse of the entire cruise.  If you’ve read this far, thank you, and I hope you enjoyed being on my Silhouette cruise.

  14. My husband and I are 69 and did this tour last month.  It is all walking, very hot and humid, so take water and maybe a towel or wet cloth.  There are a lot of birds, all outside.  There are some impressive birds.  If you're in good shape and don't mind the heat, I say go for it.  There is a little shop near where the ships dock that has some birds and other animals as well.  This one is just much larger.  If Cartagena and the ship will let you do private excursions or ones on your own, I'd do that as it's much cheaper.

Even though it was a one and done for you, it'll be at least 33 days enjoying all that she has to offer for me.

MG has a lot to offer in the way of food and entertainment.  Like I said, I felt the entertainment is a step above for Carnival and there are so many food venues that you need two or three cruises to get to them all.  You just can't beat Carnival on good and MG has great food.  I liked the MG, I just feel we have outgrown Carnival as a whole.  Thank you for your input.
