  1. Sorry about this being off subject  , but may I?  Several years ago, we were going on a cruise out of Miami where  Clemson University was playing for the National Championship.  Not wanting to miss the game or knowing of the ship would show the game, which the didn't.  I had set my TV, to record it at home and try to avoid any exposure to the game  results.  A week or so after the game, I went  to a  lounge on board and in keeping the school spirit decided to wear my Clemson shirt.

Sure as sunshine, three times, I had someone come up to me whooping and praising Clemson for their championship victory.

Stupid me.  I should have worn my Vermont shirt.

  2. It is not necessarily easy to get a city to allow a  cruise company to service a port.  Where I live in SC. , the  Charleston residents fought like crazy to keep Carnival out of the port for fear of loosing the cities old look, too many people coming in and out, traffic jams, the pollution caused by the ship and the loss of then sky view of the harbor for some that live on the battery . This was against the popular vote of the rest of the state that wanted to have access to a cruise without driving or flying to get to a ship.

After a ton of hearings and threats, Charleston decide eventually to allow Carnival and NCL to service the port but as I said, it wasn't easy..

well, I am pretty sure my $20K 2015 SUV has a lot more bells and whistles, and also safety features (far more important than bells and whistles) than my $20K 1993 sedan.

But no, they aren't the same sort of car. My 2015 is bigger and better.

I'll take the 1965 Mustang over any of them with no bells at $2,400..

Lisbon. Yes, ho-ho is a good choice.

There are two places that ships usually berth

    - up-stream close to the city centre. Nearest ho-ho stop is only a 5-minute walk.

    - downstream, near the Belem Tower & a little remote from the city centre, you'll need transport of some sort whatever you plan to do. Ho-ho's stop at the pier, which kills two birds with one stone.

There are (or at least were about 3 years ago) two competing ho-ho's. One includes the historic tram in the city centre, so if that appeals choose that one. I think both main ho-ho routes are identical, but check that - and frequency - with staff at the bus stop.

Funchal. I've not done the ho-ho, but it has a stop at the cruise terminal..

Instead we opted to take a little "antique" shuttlebus (similar to those in Yellowstone and Glacier NPs) to the cablecar, up to the intermediate cablecar station, then down on Funchal's famous toboggans - great fun.

JB :classic_smile:Our toboggan ride was Great! Highly recommend it .

  5. I realize that scooters can be a problem when you have a thoughtless person in control.

I like the idea of speed limits regulating their speed to help limit injury.

The reality is we live in a world where there are all kinds of people and some are handicap and REQUIRE a scooter. But just because they need one doesn't mean they aren't responsible for their actions just like everyone else.

Everyone needs to be considerate of others and that means handicaps as well  as those that can walk.

I have never been attacked by a scooter one a cruise but I was run over in a grocery store.

  6. I tip only very special servers that are  naturally nice and proficient. That is not because giving a tip  makes me feel good, it doesn't,  but rather that I appreciate my feeling that they are to me, a special kind of person  and I want to do something for them.

Believe me, not many meet my standard. There is no obligatory tipping on my part.

    I'm such a cad.

If you Google it, you will receive this information:

    Hiroshima Port Ujina Passenger Terminal
    Ferry service in Hiroshima, Japan

Address: Japan, 〒734-0011 Hiroshima Prefecture, Hiroshima, Minami Ward, Ujinakaigan, 1 Chome−13−26 広島港宇品旅客ターミナルビル

That information is correct. Hiroshima has just one cruise ship terminal. The piers used are located along a one kilometer stretch of the waterfront. There is very rarely more than one cruise ship in port, so it is very easy to find your ship.

Thankyou.  I am not sure of the specific birth my ship will use.  That is what I am seeking.

Gondolas do not have rudders — I think you are referring to the high, ornate oar lock which supports the gondolier’s oar, acting as a fulcrum.

Thanks for the correction. I spoke too generally.  My memory failed me.

My info on that hotel is spot on however.
