  1. I'm looking at another cruise next June/July. What time of year do you usually book to get best rates etc? Also we just got off the Liberty a few weeks ago and absolutely loved everything about it but the food. Is the food the same on all ships? Main dining was fine but everything else was sub par. Thanks

Determining the best time of year to cruise based on the rates is kind of like Russian Roulette. It may be better to determine when YOU have vacation availability, how much you want to spend, and what itinerary you're interested in. There's no hard and fast rule.

In terms of food...as many have said in multiple previous CC threads, it's all relative. MDR/Windjammer are fine by me and my DH, however there are those who only eat in the specialty restaurants or a combination of all of them. Menus may vary across the various classes of ships; you'll need to check them out for yourself and make a personal judgement.

  2. The Tutti Salad bar is always available at lunch in the MDR. The Compass will tell you which days the MDR is open for lunch (usually just sea days) and the hours it's open. All you have to do is go to the MDR for lunch! You don't really have to look for it - it's pretty hard to miss! The Tutti Salad bar is a buffet set up in the middle of the MDR with a cadre of people in kitchen whites and chef hats just waiting to make your salad for you. You don't serve yourself. You walk up, choose the ingredients you want, ask them to chop it if you like, choose a dressing, they'll toss it and plate it for you, and you take it back to your table. There are usually also a few other buffet items available.

As another poster said, you can also order off the MDR lunch menu when you go to the salad bar. You can get your salad and eat it while waiting for the rest of your order.

P.S. I believe the word tutti in Italian means 'everything' or 'all.' (Like tutti fruity is a combination of a lot of fruit flavors.) I asked a server once what it meant, and that's what she said. You can choose everything you want and there are lots of choices. The result is a 'Tutti Salad.'

Thanks, that's great information. I'll be on Enchantment next June, and I'm gonna def have it!

  3. We always fly two days before. We always cruise in February and we live in Michigan.

    A. We seem to always have to de-ice before takeoff

    B. Last year we were the last flight out before Detroit airport shut down due to a blizzard.

    C. It's usually sub zero temperatures in February - we love the two extra days in sunny Florida [emoji41]

We're from the Chi...exact same for us.

  4. If you don't have time to make it a day ahead, the cruise doesn't fit into your schedule.

Nah, that's not a hard and fast rule. Hubby and I always come in a couple of days ahead of time, but that's our preference. A lot of folks I know arrive EARLY the day of, and have no challenges with their flight...but they're aware of the fact that "stuff happens". Sometimes good travel insurance helps in those extenuating circumstances. But to say that they shouldn't cruise if they don't have an extra day to spare, is a bit harsh.

  5. Navigator has about 3400 passengers - It was not even booked 10%....!:p

It does not make sense to discuss these things with anybody that picks up the phone at RCI - I agree!

It also does not make sense for me to discuss this here any further.

Thanks everybody for your input - I am out of here....

Hey germanfflyer...just as an update for you, I spoke again to a Crown & Anchor rep again this morning. His supervisor is escalating my request to see whether I can get my booking switched to another sailing a.s.a.p.

I have a few optional itineraries that I'd like to check out before my choice of cabins is gone. I'll give them a few days this week before I call again.

  6. It was super affordable (per day rate) when it was first listed as an available sailing, but then the price went pretty high. If they offer you a "same price per day" type of deal it might make the 9 night affordable again? Who knows what they'll decide to do for us:confused:

Hope you're right. I'm not ruling it out completely, but it depends on a lot of factors.

  7. Interesting. It is back on mine as well.

...and my reservation has returned as well. Crown & Anchor will be getting a call from me today. I haven't gotten my official e-mail notification from RCI acknowledging the cancellation yet, although it appears others on our sailing have.

Teeara, I did a "fake" booking on your sailing...and while I realize it's a 9-nighter, it was a bit steep for my wallet. RCI would have to give me a whole lotta help to book this as a replacement for the cancelled one, LOL! Doubtful they will do that!

  8. Just received this email from RCI in response to my question about the "rumored" Zumba cruise:

"We have reached out to your Resolutions Team on your behalf and have verified that this sailing has in fact been chartered and is no longer available for booking. They have advised that the booking will need to be cancelled. Kindly contact our Reservations Department directly at 800-327-6700 to cancel the reservation. We apologize for any disappointment this response may bring and appreciate your understanding."

Well, at least SOMEBODY has gotten a communication from RCI. I'm still waiting. Or maybe I should call once again...

  9. We changed cabins per some advice from some Anthem pros on here. We changed from a Forward balcony on deck 13 to cabin 12196 balcony on deck 12. Any have any thoughts? Anyone sail in this cabin? Thanks for the advice before and going forward.

I have not sailed in that cabin. If you don't mind sharing, however, what is the difference between the two that made you change locations?

  10. Does the OBC have to be used only on a future cruise not yet booked or can we use it on a current cruise that is already booked? We will already be on Navigator the week before and it would be nice to use it then (not that I won't be booking other cruises in the future).

Theresa, that sounds like a good question to ask the Customer Svc rep. I'm really not certain about what the restrictions would be. They should allow you to use wherever you'd like, from my perspective.

Are you booked for a B2B that includes our sailing week as well?

  11. If you look up Zu,ha Cruise 2016 it directs you to www.marketwired.com. They are advertising for that cruise on NOS 4/23/2016. How much more convincing does RCL need to help you out?

You would think, right? Zumba's website is promoting their charter for that date like crazy, so there's no doubt what's going on. RCI is no doubt trying to decide what to do about folks like ME. I'll give them a couple more days, and then I'm gonna call them AGAIN. They're wasting time; any alternate cruise that I may want to book is filling up as I type this!

  12. Here's my update as of Saturday 4/23.

Once again, I called RCI's Crown & Anchor desk to inquire about the status of my sailing. The rep was quite understanding, but clearly only had so much access to info on his screen. He placed me on hold and spoke with his supervisor; the supervisor informed him that RCI has placed an "alert" on my sailing. The alert symbolizes that no additional sailings are being booked on that ship for that period. Crown & Anchor has not yet been "officially" informed that the ship has been chartered by Zumba.

I was instructed to wait for them to send me a direct notice of cancellation (or it could come in the form of a phone call). At that point they make alternate cruise offerings with possibly OBC, or give a refund. I'm gonna wait for just a little bit to see what the situation is. I don't want to make a move to cancel on my own, and miss out on an opportunity to get something worked out with RCI. But that's just me...

  13. Actually, the price chart was created by Zumba and is shown with 2,3,4 people per stateroom to "sell" the cruise to instructors that are cost conscious. The first staterooms to sell out are the ones that will take 4 people.

It is unknown how much Zumba Headquarters has contracted to pay RCI for this sailing. The prices shown are prices that Zumba created. They include conference fees. They offer us a 10% discount so we know the fees are hefty but many will be able to deduct this as a business expense at tax time since there will be numerous educational/training sessions on board the ship.

Well, that's good to know that the price hike is probably due to Zumba'sI fees. However, none of that excuses RCI's need to communicate the change to their patrons who have already reserved cabins on the sailing. I get that according to the contract, they have a right to make any changes at any time for any reason. Just be reasonable and fair.

  14. While waiting, research substitutes. There may be quite a few people that were booked and RCI needs to accommodate all of them. When they offer something, be ready with a decision - otherwise they'll move on to someone else.

Biker, your point is well taken. I just talked AGAIN with a Crown & Anchor rep, who spoke with his supervisor. He stated that the reps don't have "official" notification of our cruise being chartered for that week; but it has been blocked off for further bookings on their system. I know for a fact that Zumba has chartered Navigator for that sailing, and their website bears it out. Cabins are being offered through their site for an exhorbitant rate.

The rep stated that I should wait a few days, and not cancel until I hear directly from RCI. They will make some type of offer. I have my eye on a couple of sailings that I'm interested in, and I will be ready for them when they contact me.

  15. Just curious, I see they're offering four in a PR, I thought PR cabins were two people max :confused:

    https://www.zumba-cruise.com/pricing/

You're right. Looks as though RCI is trying to stuff as many on this sailing as they can for as MUCH as they can charge.

I can NOW see why it was more advantageous for RCI to cancel our sailings in favor of the chartered Zumba group. Look at the price chart! There's no way I'd have paid for a 5-day sailing at that pricing. Just trying to determine now whether I should wait to hear officially from RCCL and see whether they'll offer a "deal", or just forget about it and re-book another sailing right now?
