  2. Once per card. But you can split payment across multiple cards if you have the offer on them.

And yes, I have a lot of AMEX cards. I accumulated them over the years getting signup bonuses, and don't bother closing them, just put them in the drawer. When deals like this come along, I load the offer and then make the appropriate purchase. The only times I've actually used them all is during Small Business Saturday, when you could get up to $30 in credits per card at local merchants. One year I bought over $500 of gift cards at non-chain restaurants in my area and ate well over the course of the year thanks to AMEX! Sadly this year AMEX did not offer that promotion.

We have a friend who makes disparaging remarks about all the AMEX cards I have, but if she only knew how much money I was saving/making by having them, I think she'd stop. In any event, I laugh when she makes the comment.

BTW I also have Carnival stock, just bought it when I decided to book the HAL cruise. So that will be another $100.

I say whatever works for you, go for it. We have a variety of cards that we have opened over the years for different promotions. I have tried to explain to family and friends about some of the deals you can get with the cards but they just don't get it.

  3. With as many Carnival cruises as you have booked, you should apply for another AMEX card to do the offer again! Or add authorized users like your kids to the existing accounts and add to their cards when the cards arrive!

$200 may sound like a lot, but I saved $750 on my Royal Caribbean cruise earlier this year, and just saved $500 on HAL this week (and will save at least $200 more on OBC). I have a lot of AMEX cards :).

You must have a lot of cards! I thought you could only use this offer once....is that accurate?

We do save extra money with Carnival stock and we always book on board for the extra OBC and buy the discounted gift cards. Every little bit adds up.

  4. Each cardholder can have their own login at the AMEX site, even if they are not the primary cardholder. The authorized user (you) should register their card and set up an id and the offer should be available. Then the offer can be redeemed on that card. The offers are card number specific.

Thanks, I was having a moment there, lol!

I remembered I had registered my card with my own account, I just never use it.

I was able to add the offer to this card as well. Wow, $200 saved!

  5. Just to be clear, bad reviews haven't swayed my thinking. Rather descriptions of the ship itself have convinced me the Vista isn't for me.

Neither did I think the original post was a "bad review."

I am in no way bashing the Vista. I am saying I have found my perfect fit on the Dream class ships.

Happy sailing on whatever ship is right for you.

Just curious what you mean by descriptions of the ship? We sailed her in the Med and she is our favorite ship so far. So many things to do or you can go find a quite place to relax with all the outdoor seating venues the ship has.

To the OP I think that is a tough one. The extra day on the Magic and the shorter drive would be tempting but the Vista is a really nice ship. You cant go wrong either way.

  6. Thanks for the info everyone. I went ahead and ordered $800 in gift cards from my credit card rewards company (save 10% that way!) to pay the regular deposit. Once I get them I'll pay the deposit in full so I can take advantage of any price drops and guarantee the room I want. I hope this cruise is as awesome as I'm thinking it will be!

Sent from my XT1585 using Forums mobile app

We are booked on the same cruise and I paid the deposit with gift cards to. We paid the full $800 and shortly after there was a deposit sale. Nice part is if by chance there is a reduced fare I can apply for the drop and not have to worry about it and when final payment rolls around it is all the better.

  7. If Vista opened in late January for May cruise...then late November for the Horizon in March seems plausible.

Either way, I can't wait to see her itinerary....I have a March 2018 booking on another cruise...but I could cancel if the price is right and itinerary is interesting enough. Otherwise, will wait till she is stateside.....either way, I'm sailing her!:D

Vista bookings opened January 2015 and the inaugural sailing was May 1st 2016.

The Horizon is coming out spring of 2018. Hoping we can book her soon but not really holding my breath for a December release. Seems like we are always kept in suspense for a while. :D :D

  8. A few questions for you experts:

    1. When do you think the first voyage will be?

    2. How long after that will the ship head to the US?

I know this info is not available but I'm sure some of the experts on here have an idea!

    Thanks!!

We booked the Vista the first day the bookings opened up and that was January 22nd.

Her first sailing was May 1st and the TA was in October.
