  1. We thought it was full, no? Edit: as per usual, Mystic is right! I’m at the pool and just asked the manager how many guests were onboard and he quoted me the number 280 and said around 100 under capacity. So I stand corrected!
  2. Can you clarify? Flights canceled by whom? The airline? If so did the airline rebook you and how did that work out?
  3. Just as one can make special requests for liquor or food prior to the cruise, couldn’t you make a pre cruise request for the sweetener you want? I think they would provide it.
  4. Just to show you how things are so individual, we prefer the Shadow and Whisper over Spirit and larger ships. What makes the world go around.
  5. Chef breaking down fresh whole tuna for lunch by the pool today.
  6. Sunday night was our 24th anniversary. We asked the kitchen if they could make a special Indian meal for us. They did so and it was terrific. Today I saw the Indian chef and thanked him for the great work. He was very appreciative. I’d say it has been our favorite meal so far though the food has been quite good everywhere (this is our 26th Silversea cruise and 32nd cruise overall). Here are some pics. The menu was: Onion Bhalji Vegetable Samosa Raita Chutney - Chicken curry Lamb curry Pilau (rice) Cauliflower something Dal (lentil curry) Papadum Naan
  7. Went on a river cruise to the fern grotto in Kauai today. Was a nice morning excursion. On the bus back now for a lunch by the pool.
  8. I was about to say. I can say the same thing about every single cruise line I’ve ever been on from Cunard to Seabourn to Regent to Crystal and on and on and on.
  9. It was 75F by the pool today! Lovely lunch and sat by the pool all afternoon. We arrive in Honolulu tomorrow morning.
  10. I’m Wilfred traveling with my husband Craig on the same cruise as far as Fiji. I’m looking at the chef right now in the dining room but I don’t know his name so can’t confirm at the moment. Edit—server just told me his name is Frank. PSS. I met him. Yes it’s Franck Sollazzo. He’s French from Nice originally. Very nice guy. Friendly.
  11. Silversea is wonderful. The MDR is open for all meals. We have also enjoyed our cruises in Seabourn.
  12. We boarded the Shadow yesterday in San Francisco and they had our luggage tags waiting for us when we handed over our luggage at check in.
  13. Have done around 30 cruises on SS as well as Crystal and Seabourn and a few others. We are on the Shadow right now. Having a great time and things are fully up to SS standards here I can assure you.
  14. We had room service menu items sent to the pool area for lunch many days. It was great!
  15. Once again Fletcher nails it on the head! I went on the “Cultural Highlights of Djibouti” tour. We stopped at a fish market and were supposed to have a tour but we somehow didn’t get the ok to go in so after 20 minutes of milling around it was back on the bus. We then went to the African market and walked along the different shops. We even saw a make believe Gucci store so every imaginary need could be met! Next was a “gentle drive through Djibouti” which wasn’t entirely gentle given the gravel dirt roads but was just as Fletcher described his scenery. The tour was scheduled to last approximately 5 hours. It lasted 3 hours and no one complained to my knowledge. 🙂. It was interesting and I’m glad I went. No need to return. See a few pics I took. 16. Glad we decided to sleep in yesterday and stay on board for the absolutely delightful Indian buffet lunch by the pool. 😎😂 Somehow a 6:30am zodiac wasn’t calling us. We got to meet Fletcher yesterday in the computer center—it was an honour. I’ve not experienced computer issues and offered my beaten up older MacBookPro to Fletcher but I see he has things straightened out. (I’m posting this via my iPhone). We were invited to the Hotel Manager’s table last night and so interesting to hear Michelle’s (Hotel Manager) history with the company spanning many years. Turns out we think we were all were on the same cruise from Rio to Cape Town years ago. Also got to meet many interesting people at the table. I’ve always said (metaphorically) that to be on Silversea you have to have an interesting story to tell and it was fun hearing everyone’s stories last night. We woke up late this morning and went to the pool. The server there recited my beverage order for the start of the day by heart (English breakfast tea, milk, honey on the side). Nice contrast to my regular workday when I’m in nyc haha.
  17. When I first traveled on Silversea I was in my mid 40’s and my husband was in his late 30’s—that was 20 years ago. We never felt an age issue with the other passengers. Rather my standing comment about the other passengers was “you had to have an interesting story to be on Silversea.” I, of course, didn’t mean that in a literal sense but everyone I met had an interesting story to tell about their lives and how they got to this point. Just the “ordinary person” seemed to never make it to the ship. I think you’ll enjoy it immensely. Twenty years from now remember this story! Haha
  18. I’m currently on SilverSea. You guys aren’t referring to any actual experience that exists in a ship I’m on. This is pure fantasy lol.
  19. I’m on the Cloud right now and have around 265 days on SilverSea over 20 some years. I found no caps in the dining room and no Americanization of the product compared to the past. No cause for hysteria at least on this voyage. The rumors or fears posted on this thread are not borne out on my experience currently.
  20. I’m on the same cruise and I’d like to say two things. First how accurate I find your postings—I couldn’t agree more with all your observations; and 2) how much I’m learning from your posts! Keep them coming!
