Currently a larger (Oasis) size ship would not be able to make it since all ships turn around before they dock. The channel where the turning basin is is not wide enough for Oasis size to turn

I received an email with a survey asking what I would be willing to pay for a spa balcony. A few weeks later got an email if I wanted a JS additional $400 for my Sept. 9 cruise out of Galveston. We have a ocean view balcony right across the hall from son's family of 4 inside cabin. Because of this arrangement, we declined.

We were scheduled to sail out of Galveston(live 50 miles away) last year when Hurricane Harvey hit and Houston and surrounding areas were under water. RCCI sent text messages and email stating is we were affected by the flood or had trouble getting to the port( many freeways closed, port closed for a time, etc) to call number xxxxxxx. Our home received 4 ft flood water from an overflowing resevoir. Called the number, verified our zip code was one of the flooded areas. We had travel insurance to recoup payments, but Royal did reimburse all Cruise Planner charges. I don't know what happened to passengers who did not have insurance.

When we sailed on Liberty about a year ago, the bag would be the size similar to a plastic grocery bag

You have to explore the Bucc-ees on I-45 south heading to Galveston. It is an experience in itself.

Take a tour of Space Center Houston/NASA, that is south of HOU. That will fill some time

You can also bring one 12-pack soda per person. I'm sure that would also include bottled water

I don’t think the poster was being rude, their just trying to explain why two 14 y/o in a cabin alone so far away is a very bad idea. Each cabin is assigned to a muster station (lifeboat). If you’re cabins are not very near one another, they will have different stations. The above poster was indicating that in the case of an emergency, you won’t be with your kids. And technically you would be in breach of your cruise contract and could possibly be put off the ship at the nearest port.

And many cruise lines check off who is there for the muster station

NCL has a great kids program and has ships going out of Houston. They are reasonably priced and great for a first time cruiser.
NCL no longer sails out of Houston

Usually, you have to pay for 2 in the cabin but only one person port fees and taxes

Looks like #1 is great. We visited Charlotte's castle and staircase while on a Carnival excursion

AND watch out for those charges that might show up on your credit card bill AFTER you get the final print-out the morning you disembark. Many CC posters have mentioned charges for using items in the cabin ' fridge when they didn't----even when they asked the steward to clean it out on the first day.

Carnival says the latest you can get to IAH for their shuttle is 1pm. Scrape the rental and book their shuttle because then the ship will wait.

Being a Houstonian, I agree with Griff61 in that the ship would wait for a shuttle it contracts with. It is a nightmare driving from IAH to Galveston.

If you wanted to actually do something like that, a better choice would be to go down I35 to Waco, take highway 6 down past Navasota, get on highway 290 and take that to I610 south and then west to I-45, which then goes directly to Galveston (and ends a block or two from the cruise dock). I WOULD take 99 south of 290, or Beltway 8 off 290, but both of those are toll roads that don't accept cash in all their locations.
I-635 around Houston on Saturday morning shouldn't be a problem.
If you have a toll tag and come down I-45, when you get to Beltway 8 you can go east and then south and avoid virtually all the Houston traffic. You rejoin I-45 well south of I-635. About mile marker 30, in fact.
290 is great....but it is under construction between just west of toll roll 99 coming into 610. Beltway 8 (toll road with cash) will get you from 290 to I-45 and miss downtown Houston.

Luckily we had travel insurance through the cruise line for our RCI cruise Sept 3 out of Galvestion. Thanks to Hurricane Harvey and the flooding our home received, we called the cruise line the Friday before our Sunday departure to cancel. The cruise line refunded all add on charges like gratuities, drink packages, shore exursions, port fees, taxes, etc. The insurance company refunded the cost of the cabin booking. Not sure what happened to the passengers who didn't have the insurance. My husband and I are older so get the insuance, just in case we need it for medical reasons. Little did we know it helped us from a natural disaster that effected us.

Hello fellow cruisers,
I am not able to view the roll call for Liberty 1/28 sailing. Also as a check, I tried other roll calls with no sucess. I am logged into CC when attempting to access. I can read other posts in other forums, just not the Roll Call. The message says post may have been deleted by administrator
