Carnival also started using Little Stirrup Cay which most know as Coco Cay

Is this a new cabin category for the Serenade of the Seas? I checked the RCCL website for studio cabins on this ship and not see Studio cabins listed. Are you referring to an interior cabin?
Yes its a new category

It will be interesting to see if this is a glitch or the new normal.
Glad I booked all my solo cruises for next year. I was going to book them onboard next month.

I don't see why not as long as they are sealed. This is my main pet peeve, why in the world would they have all of these wonderful toppings and NO CHIPS!!!:eek::eek:
My guess would be cost. If they put out chips people would pile bowls full of salsa and chips and many wouldnt eat it all.
The way they have it now people use the toppings sparingly.

I've got FOS booked for next year.
Awesome review!
Did you snag FOS during the pricing mistake? $369 for a promenade cabin was hard for me and many others to pass up.

2217 Breeze Pics
The above are pics from 2217 it should be very similar. You will experience waves crashing against the hull of the ship. It will sound like someone hitting the a sledgehammer on metal. The amount of times you will hear it is based on the condition of the seas. You will also hear the thrusters engaging when you pull into port. For me its never an issue, but for anyone sensitive to noise it might be a problem.

The superbowl charter is January 29 to February 3, and the 2 nighter follows it. So, I'm guessing they scheduled this 2 nighter a repositioning cruise to avoid violating the Passenger Vessel Services Act, then get it to Miami to start its inaugural run.
Its just odd to end a cruise in nassau. Im actually curious when people can get off the ship, it shows a time of 7pm in nassau.
Maybe they will issue a press release explaining the two day cruise.
Will be interesting to read that cruise review. :)

Just an Fyi this is an old thread the Op sailed on fascination out of jax back in February.
-
It is Vision of the Seas. Do they have special markings to indicate if it is this type of cruise?
-
How very odd! If you wanted to get yourself down to Nassau for vacation, this would be very cheap and entertaining transportation, I would think! $99 for an inside.
I know the Getaway was booked as a floating hotel for Superbowl fans, but I don't follow football, so I'm not sure what dates that covers. So, where does Getaway go after Nassau, and why make passengers get off there?
The superbowl is feb 2 and I believe the first Miami cruise is feb 8th. So maybe there is another charter.
Very odd indeed, especially since we are talking about all this happening in 4 months or so.

Getaway is on my radar! Gorgeous ship.
I saw they are offering a 2 night cruise feb 3-5, 2014 from nyc. I was excited until I realized it was a one way trip to Nassau.
Did the charter fall through?

How many people care about status versus those that care about benefits though? Supplying too much of anything inherently dilutes status, but it can increase benefits and loyalty (the function of the program).
Cruise critic is the home of "worst case scenarios" often people imagine things going disastrously, when in reality it doesnt even register a blimp on any measurable scale.

Why can't I think of this, but what is SI & SB cabins?
SI = Studio Interior
SB= Studio Balcony

I have no idea where I'll be or what I'll be doing in 2016, but I do know I want to book the Vista US inaugural! :p
And get out of my head! Last year, I said I was going to do JUST THAT this year- run a marathon and then take a cruise. And I was going to run the A1A! I booked the Victory 5 night cruise from Miami, leaving the day after the race. Fast forward to this time last year, and I wasn't even thinking about training, so I said forget that and switched from the Victory to the Valor instead. It's a thought for next year though!
I've thought about doing this one too-
It's an Alaskan cruise and you run so many miles in each port. By the end of the cruise, you've completed a marathon!
If you do that Alaskan cruise I will look for the review. Alaska is on my radar, but not sure I would forgo all the great excursions to run.
Im ultra competitive and would try to win each day lol which would mean I couldn't do my normal post race activity ....eat everything in sight lol
Reading about your DR experience reminds me why I stopped calling my trips vacations. I simply refer to them as adventures now. :) something always seems to go horribly wrong at first then when all is said and done things work themselves out. Plus I have a great story to tell.
Glad you had a great time.

Thanks! I saw those shoes and HAD to have them. Congrats on your races as well! I'm thinking of another half marathon next month and it's on my bucket list to run a full marathon next year!
Great review...looking forward to the rest.
I sailed on Breeze twice this year, doubt I will sail on another Carnival ship until Vista comes out, that's how impressed I was with the ship. Nothing else in the current fleet excites me. Loved the gym, rope course and slides.
As I runner I think you should do a Mary then a Cruise :)
Two great options in south Florida are
A1A Mary
http://a1amarathon.com/event-details/a1a-marathon/
Pancake flat course, small race(3-5,000), but very well organized, usually held early Feb. Great ocean views.
or
Miami Mary
http://www.usroadsports.com/Signature/Miami/
Some bridges, but not too bad, huge race 30-35,000. Usually held last weekend of Jan or First weekend in Feb.
I have done both and hopped on a cruise the same day. Logistically, its challenging, yet I loved it. I boarded the ship wearing my medal lol...There are always a number of cruisers that run,so it cool to spot them wearing race swag onboard or during check in.

Double points could keep prices higher than they have been for solo cruisers.
Low single supplements are on cruises that they have a hard time selling. That reality wont change.

Just booked IOS 13 day Caribbean Journey to the UK departing May 4 from Ft. Lauderdale. Inside promenade for $750.00. Total with taxes, fees & gratuities was about $1000. OV was $850ish plus all taxes & fees. Not cheap when you add airfare but if someone had airline miles to use the cruise itself is less than $100 per night. Plus I totally forgot to add there is a C&A savings certificate which helps too.
That cruise is selling at 0% single supplement, which is rare. The Savings certs really bring the price down.

We are now in rooms 2211 and 2217. Does anyone have pictures of these rooms? I know the ship is relatively new, so it's difficult to find many pictures. Any insight would be appreciated though. I would just like to make sure the rooms DO have portholes.
Thanks, everyone And thanks for starting this thread; It's great!!

LOL... As with ANY gift card, which are highly popular anymore. Might miss out on $.05 interest these days.
If anyone is interested, I did notice quite a bit covered on Carnival's FAQ's:
Your link just goes to the general FAQ
The OP posted a link that was specific to the cards
http://www.carnivalgiftcards.com/FAQ.aspx
it can also be viewed here
http://www.carnival.com/Funville/blogs/faqs/archive/2012/12.aspx

If you load the gift card on your S&S, like I plan on doing, go to casino and draw from your sail and sign, then cash out to players bank, and voila! You got your money back!
Yes, the slot machine method is great for getting cash from OBC and now for gift cards :)
-
another reason I do not like the card---
with the funship dollars i applied at the guest services-- whatever was left over I got a check for the refund.
that will not happen with the gift card.
wow.. if you order these a lot towards a vacation that 95 cents will rack up.
If the cards are for you, why would you have them shipped to you? The e-cards dont incur a fee.
-
. If they are lost, they can't be replaced even with a receipt?? Dumb.
While they cant be replaced the funds on the card can still be used. Its much better than the paper, which if lost were basically gone forever.
Q: My card no longer works. Can it be replaced?
A: No, lost, stolen or damaged Gift Cards will not be replaced; you can still redeem the card value online at carnival.com using the 16 digit card number or directly onboard toward an Onboard Sail & Sign account.
