  1. Yes, most of the cruise directors I have seen are American. I think the CD we had on the Pride last week was. It almost seems that cruise lines prefer to have American or at least "Western Hemisphere" CDs. I have also seen one American captain on NCL, which was surprising.

Celebrity will have an American Captain that's also a woman.

  2. Yes

Carnival guests who fly in through Miami International Airport and sail from either the Port of Miami or Port Everglades, now can check-in for their cruise at the airport.

We are leasing two counters at Concourses ‘D’ and ‘H’ on the day of sailing for this function.

    Here is how it works…

Guests retrieve their luggage at baggage claim and are directed to their corresponding check-in counter at Concourse ‘D’ or ‘H’, based on flight arrivals.

Guests check-in for their cruise, receive a Sail & Sign card and a boarding card that reads ‘Airport Express’ so that we can easily identify them when they arrive at the cruise terminal.

Guests who wish to use cash for their Sail & Sign deposit will be instructed to stop by one of the cruise terminal check-in counters or use an on board Sail & Sign kiosk.

Guests who did not pre-purchase our optional transportation service are given the option to purchase transfers to the pier during their check-in process.Guests must take their luggage with them whether using our transportation service or other means.

When guests arrive at the pier, they are directed to our ‘Airport Express’ security lane for a quick photo ID check and Sail & Sign check.Next, embarkation pictures, A-pass and boarding!

Hours of operation for airport check-in: 8:00am-2:00pm (on the day of sailing)

  3. https://help.goccl.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2705/kw/Early%20saver

Early Saver is available up to 3 months prior to sailing for short cruises (3-5 days) and 5 months prior to sailing for long cruises (6 days and longer).*Early*Saver guests are eligible for price protection up to 2 business days prior to sailing.

On select sailings, the extension will be accomplished by introducing*Early*Saver*Last Call*which will follow the same guidelines as*Early*Saver.

Simultaneously,*Early*Saver*will close at 3 and 5 months prior to sailing, while*Early*Saver*Last Call will become available (capacity controlled).

  4. I haven't received any update requests from the app & it looks the same to me. Think I'll be getting an update soon? I saw discussion on another thread about watching fares on Shipmate but can't seem to find it on my app. (I'm still using an iPhone 4S with original operating system which doesn't support a lot of apps now. Hoping price drops on the 6 soon. Needing to upgrade!)

Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app

It was a update for Android, not sure if Apple devices were included.

It's not a huge change, but they added a news feed and my feed.

  5. just checked the carnival site and don't see it on the main page or in a mock booking... I will wait until 12 noon and see if it changes.

It's only good for select cruises through February 2016,so that could be the reason its not showing up for you

This is the disclaimer on the promo

Rates may vary by ship, stateroom type, and sail date. Offer is capacity controlled and category restrictions and exclusions apply. Offer is applicable on select sailings through February 2016. Offer is applicable in guarantee categories IS/OV/BL only. Carnival will assign the stateroom at a later time. Cancellation penalties apply. Offer does not apply to Carnival Australia. Offer is applicable on new bookings made between 12:00 PM ET on June 29, 2015 and 11:59 PM ET on June 29, 2015.

Does*Early*Saver*and*Early*Saver*Last Call follow Carnival’s standard deposit, payment and cancellation terms?

The deposit and payment terms are the same. Guests who cancel prior to the final payment date will receive a future cruise credit in the amount of the deposit received less a $50*USD*service fee per person.

Future cruise credits are issued in the name of the original payee, regardless of whether they were ever booked in the cancelled reservation. For bookings paid with a travel agency credit card or check, the cruise credit will then be issued in the name of the cancelled guest.

The future cruise credit can only be redeemed on bookings made in*USD*currency, will be applied to guests’ cruise fare, is non-refundable, non-transferable and any used portion will be forfeited.Guests must sail within 24 months from the date of the cancellation.

  8. not necessarily. just for kicks and giggles we did that once,. there was 20 pound difference between 2 readings one day apart. both taken at the same time of day, early morning, calm seas.

not even my husband eats THAT much at the buffet! :p

That sounds like someone messing with the scales. I know lots of people pull practical jokes in gyms.

I usually just grab two of the heaviest dumbbells, walk over to the scales and check the accuracy. The majority I have tried have been only off by 2-3 pounds at most.

  9. Seems to be just another way for NCL to raise prices. The old 7 day UDP was $119. Now the new 3 day SDP is $59. Half the price but fewer than half the days increasing the cost per meal.

It's the same rate on both packages ,but actually cheaper once you get past day 7 with SDP. $10 per day bump vs $15

You can see both charts here

    http://www.ncl.com/onboard-packages/dining-packages

  10. Yes, but that's for two people, right? You can't order it by yourself even with the current UDP, right?

ARE ANY MENU ITEMS EXCLUDED FROM THE ULTIMATE DINING PACKAGE?

    A. No, all items listed on the menus are included in the package. Additional entrée charges also apply for dining at Cagney’s Steakhouse and Le Bistro.

ARE ANY MENU ITEMS EXCLUDED FROM SPECIALTY DINING PACKAGES?

No, all items listed on the menus are included in the package. Additional entrée charges also apply for dining at Cagney’s Steakhouse and Le Bistro.

  11. Thanks all for the replies, some of my thoughts exactly! PLENTY of activities for the under 18 but after that..............................................

Lucky for him he is very outgoing and never had a problem meeting people, I guess one place to meet up with others in his age group is the basketball court, did not know about gambling but it is his money.:D I wonder if I start a roll call for his age group and see what happens, I know there is already a roll call, so???

They really don't like multiple rolls calls,so it would probably just get merged with the existing one.

My cousins that are 18-22ish all seem to find cruisers their age on the various social media sites. So they usually know a few before getting on the ship.

  12. I'm waiting on a reply from my NCL DM. I asked the following:

In the a la carte venues such as bayamo, sushi, raw bar etc. Is there a monetary cap on ordering with the UDP up charge?

We all have to be careful with the acronyms

The old plan was UDP the new one is SDP

Unless you are asking about the 20-25% off under UDP

  13. On the ships I have sailed on, the washers and dryers are on a timer,so it's easy to put the time in my stopwatch and know exactly when it will be done.

I do mine very early in the morning. I would say 10 mins is about right.

It's really up to each person if they want to do it.I don't see it as such a arduous chore, but I can see why some wouldn't want to do it.

If I needed something pressed,I have no problem sending that out.

Usually bring this with me to speed up the process

  14. Not sure what POA is, but we just booked for South America Cruise next year 20 days, in a balcony cabin and got nothing! so not happy about that!

We love the all ports and it comes back to SFO, so at this point we have a lot to think about, go or cancel:rolleyes:

I think there ad miss leads people
