  1. I get that most cruise lines prohibit surge protectors for safety reasons. But I read somewhere on the website that extension cords and multi-plug power strips must be approved by Virgin. Is this true? If so, how and when are they approved?
  2. Has anyone done the Bimini Heritage and Cultural tour? It sounds interesting - is it worth it? Appreciate your comments!
  3. Aqua Neru cruisers: Do any of you have copies of the menus? TA
  4. If this is really important to you, NCL is not the cruise line for you. (except maybe for Hawaii). I recently cruised on Norwegian to Iceland, Norway, and Scotland, and while I thoroughly enjoyed the cruise, there were no "enrichment programs." I would have enjoyed this, as I have on many Princess cruises, and as I hear Holland America focuses on.
  5. I totally agree! I do not hesitate to do this.
  6. All I can add is that for me Akrotiri was a spectacular site - well worth visiting.
  7. The city of Seville is absolutely worth seeing, even if you don't have ton of time.
  8. We used these on our recent NCL cruise. And they DID ALLOW personal water bottles, full or empty, to be brought on board when embarking and when returning from shore excursions. This was on the Star. BTW, we loved these bottles. Felt they paid for themselves quickly. We used them in airports also. Only negative was they are a bit heavy.
  9. This is a great idea for taming the extension cord! On a recent cruise on the Star, we used the bottom of the bed protective fabric cover (not sure what it is officially called!) to cover the extension cord on the floor. It worked pretty well to prevent tripping over the cord. Not as elegant as stringing the cord across the ceiling, but simpler. We unplugged the cord in the morning. We also always bring our own cord.
  10. I remember seeing a priority boarding lane but I think it was for suites.
  11. My mantra: Passengers above, passengers below, good to go. I tend to avoid cabins with any public areas above and below me if possible. But it also depends on the ship and itinerary.
  12. Day 1: Juggler at 8pm Day 2: What the World Needs now Production show: 7:15 and 9 pm Day 3: Illusionist: 7 pm and 9 pm Day 4: Guitarist: 9 pm Day 5: Band on the Run - Production Show: 7:15 and 9 pm Day 6: Juggler: 9 pm Day 7: Vocalist: 9 pm Day 8: Aerialists: 7:15 and 9 pm Day 9: Ilusionist: 9 pm Day 10: Paridis - Production Show: 7:15 and 9 pm
  13. It was in the 40's. But the wind chill coupled with the occasional rain made it feel very cold.
  14. A few final thoughts - from the perspective of being at home for 5 days: FYI - I am a very experienced cruiser, 43 cruises on many lines and all types and sizes of ships (this was my 3rd on Norwegian.) Things I did right: 1.There is always something to learn from my fellow cruisers. A cabin hack I recently read about on these boards that worked well for me was bringing blue painters tape to easily attach important things to the walls. And of course, I always bring a magnetic clip or two. 2. I don't like to feel like I have to ration drinking water. I bought a water bottle with a built in filter and used it the whole trip, beginning in the airport and while onboard. It was a bit heavy in my backpack but I saved a lot of money and had an endless supply of good water for free on the trip. And yes, NCL lets you bring personal water on and off the ship. People were tossing full water bottles at embarkation - totally unnecessary. 3. Ponchos and waterproof jackets with hoods work better in rainy, windy Iceland than umbrellas much of the time. 4. As I have learned many times - approach the entertainment with an open mind and go for it. I thought a guitarist would be boring, but he was one of the best acts of the entire cruise! Things I wish I had done differently: 1. I wish we had eaten at Cagney's twice instead of wasting a meal at Le Bistro. 2. Why oh why didn't I bring a lanyard for my cruise card and ID on this trip? And why didn't I just buy one onboard? So much handier than digging it out of my bag all the time or worrying it would fall out of a pocket. 3. I wish I had tried for an upgrade from an Oceanview Balcony to a Club Balcony. The slightly extra room and the tub would have been nice. I may have more thoughts later!
  15. On the Star last week - our cabin was ready by 1 pm. But we were allowed to place our carryons in the cabin before that official time. Very convenient! Listen to the announcements
  16. A transfer to the port was included in our pre-cruise package. But the port is very close to the downtown. You should have no trouble.
  17. I cant speak to Moderno or Teppanyaki since we didn't visit them. Also did not visit gym but it looked big and nice. One of my companions used the thermal spa every day and loved it. She said to book it right away when you board. In Alesund, we rode the inexpensive City Train for an overview of the city. We also on our own visited the city museum. NCL tours in Edinburgh (City highlights and Castle) and Kirkwall (Orkey Islands) were very good.
