  1. Haven’t cruised in several years and don’t remember ever packing a hat. I plan to bring a sun hat on my upcoming cruises. How important is it to have a hat with a chin strap vs one without? Outdoors on the ship or in Caribbean ports, is the wind going to whip a hat off my head if I don’t have a chin strap? Thanks in advance for opinions and your experiences.
  2. Apparently Royal is stopping in Grand Turk next week, and the Royal website only mentions restrictions for Columbia. And to clarify - what health info goes on the sea pass - what you answer on online early check in? Or what you answer at embarkation day of cruise beginning?
  3. Turks & Caicos govt website definitely says “18 and older must be Covid vaccinated.” So I will be curious to see how Royal handles it.
  4. Responding to Not-enough-cruising: Except, you cannot get off the ship in Turks and Caicos if you are unvaccinated. I ended up booking a last minute trip with some friends for March on Holland America and discovered this info for one of the ports. Maybe Royal doesn't go to T&C? Because I had been researching my May trip quite a bit on the Royal boards, I thought the only exception was Columbia and was surprised to learn this little tidbit on the new March cruise I'm taking.
  5. How important is the breeze? I would really prefer the ocean view rather than the pool but maybe the breeze is more important?? Also, we are a group of 4 ladies but I could only get the 1 cabana with 2 chairs. One of us really likes to lay out in the sun so being outside the cabana will not be a problem. Would it be frowned upon to drag one more chair inside the cabana if the 3rd lady needs a break in the shade?
  6. I have searched the posts but don’t see any actual pictures and searching HAL website reveals zilch. Apparently, the cabanas are top secret. We had a pool side cabana, family size, on Eurodam on our Alaskan cruise. But I am going on a girls trips with some friends who have never been on HAL and would love to show them some pictures. We will be on Nieux Amsterdam. The family cabanas were booked, but I was able to get a 2 person retreat cabana which are located one deck up from pool (with no sea view, I believe). Also, since the cabanas are top secret, I can’t find the list of cabana amenities (could not understand the lady I booked with), and the amenities are not listed on my booking confirmation. If someone can share the info, I’d appreciate it. Last request - yes, the family size cabanas (with a view) are all reserved. Does anyone have tips on possibly getting one if there is a cancellation? Do I need to call everyday vs waiting until the day of boarding?
  7. Hijacking this post - just a little I asked this question over on the private island board with only one reply: Does RC add more Coco Cay excursions as the cruise date approaches? A blog mentioned some excursions such as jet skis, but that is not currently offered as an excursion for our May 2023 sailing.
  8. I read a blog post that there are jet ski excursions, scuba, etc on Coco Cay, but I’m not seeing those listed in the excursions for my cruise in May 2023. Will more excursions be added later?
  9. Here is the scenario - 4 people want to go on a cruise - ABCD - all staying in the same room - March 2023 A & B can definitely go. C & D have to wait to get approval with their work schedules and other life situations, but C & D really want to go and are trying hard to work it out. Should A & B go ahead and reserve a room to get a last minute deal? And then add C & D later if they can go? If C & D are added later, how are they going to be billed? Does A & B’s balance change? I hope this makes sense… P.S. I’m used to booking cruises for my family of 3 - never had to navigate this process with 4 different non-family adults
  10. My daughter and I enjoyed high tea being served daily in the MDR on our Alaskan cruise on Holland. I can’t remember if it’s offered on RC. We’ll be on MOS in May 2023.
  11. How important is the bid strength meter when trying to formulate a bid amount?
  12. John, thank you so much for answering my questions and for the screenshot. That picture helps me so much!
  13. Haven’t cruised in several years and am also new to Royal Up (which hasn’t even been offered yet for my upcoming cruise). I’ve read all that RC has on their website, but I like to be very very prepared. I am currently booked in a balcony room. If R U is offered, I will get to bid on one or more suites if available? And it is best to put in multiple bids to better your chances of getting at least one? I assume you get 1 bid per room type. And you only get one shot or you could change your bid amount if you change your mind about the amount? May be stupid questions, but I am a visual learner and having never seen a bid page, I can’t picture how it works….
  14. While looking through shore excursions, I noticed a link at the very bottom for “Royal Private Journeys: Unique Excursions Designed for You.” Has anyone ever used this service? I haven’t cruised in several years so looking for some tips.

    Palm Beach

Question - People say Palm Beach, but Royal Caribbean offers an excursion to dePalm. I’m assuming these are different places and people are just shortening dePalm to Palm?
  17. We have booked them for May 2023 for a customized tour for 3 adults and the cost is $405 not including lunch.
