  1. Your title made me laugh because of an experience we had in GC. We've been there many times including some land stays, and about 5 years ago, while on a cruise, we did the Stingray City tour with some friends who'd never been there before. We had a great time and on our way back into town, we asked our shuttle driver to take us to a "local bar" or someplace off the beaten path that tourists might not know about. Now, we had in our heads that he'd take us to some beach shack, or a place where there was a local cooking out back with icy beer in a cooler. HA! He took us to a bar that was "in town" but not near the beach, and we went in and it was like a "disco" or "nightclub" and there were about 5 other taxi drivers in there. It was crazy surreal. We were sitting in a disco in the middle of the afternoon in Georgetown. We laughed and had our $1 tap beer, thanked our driver and walked back to the waterfront.

Was our own fault....we asked for something local and not touristy!!!! :)

    Funny story..........thanks for sharing.

  2. it might be a 15 minute walk,we stayed at Sunset House and walked into Georgetown 3 times one day.

    it is less than a mile . . .

Just minutes from George Town, Grand Cayman, Seaharvest Restaurant and My Bar, located at Sunset House, are the essential Caribbean experience.

My Bar is a huge open-sided, thatch-roofed cabana with the largest, and at times the liveliest, outdoor bar in Grand Cayman. This ‘Best of Caribbean’ award winner has been a favourite for tourists and locals for the past 50 years. Standing on the water’s edge at Sunset House, it is, for many people, the location of treasured memories. Appealing to young and old it occupies a central place in the life of the Island.

Thanks to both Curacaoqueen & Capt BJ for the info, sounds like a nice place to go to after our tour is over.

  3. wellllllllll

as u c there are few recommendations

you can stay downtown and do the M'ville thing .....

    OR

go to the best bar on the island

grab a cab and ask to be taken to Sunset House' My Bar (or walk).

It is only ONE but I think they can keep you entertained.

How far of a walk is it to My Bar from the pier to get back to the ships ? Thanks for your info.

  4.

The other thing to note about last minute flash sales is the cabin selection is usually pretty poor and consists of many less desireable cabins.

Very true, we would prefer to pay a little more & be happy with our stateroom that we will be in for the week.

  5. Be aware that there are limited selections available in the beer package vs what you can get at the bars. I think the room service package is limited to Beck's, Coors Light, Dos Equis, Miller Genuine Draft, and Miller Lite, and they come in the typical-sized can. But if you are a Budweiser drinker, you have to get those products from the bars and they come in the larger 16 oz aluminum bottles. So the pool bucket costs a bit more per beer, but they may be larger and other brands than you can get from room service. At least that's been our experience.

We pre-ordered the beer pkg for our Ruby cruise & again for the Caribbean Princess cruise in June. Dos Equis comes in glass bottles(on the Ruby they did) which is fine for us since that is what we like. Nice to sit on the balcony while having a ice cold beer :D.

  6. Hi, Rick! Michael and I really enjoyed our party bus excursion with you and your family! If we are ever all in the Caymans together again, we would love to book this again with you guys. We can't remember where we stopped at for that fried grouper either. I keep meaning to email them to ask but I always forget.

For anyone thinking about doing the Cayman Party Bus, if you can get the minimum people to join, I highly recommend it!

Thanks for the info on the Party Bus in GC. We are thinking of doing this excursion in June ............. sounds like everyone had a great time :D. Did you meet the tour at the pier or elsewhere?

  7. Sorry I haven't been able to post like I intended to. The Internet has been slower than usual, and that's saying a lot. Yesterday I tried to log into Cruise Critic and gave up after 5 minutes of my time clicked away. It's a lot better this morning (6:30 ship's time).

Captain Phillips and Gravity are still on MUTS. I haven't noticed what movies are on the TV. We watched a couple of college basketball games--ACC and SEC championships--on Sunday and haven't watched anything else but the news.

Our cabin is C714. It's a great location, close enough to the back stairs but not so close as to get any noise from people waiting for elevators. I love the Caribe Deck for the spacious balconies. But it's also a great location if you like to take the stairs everywhere like I do.

Commodore Romano is back until mid June. The cruise director will be changing next cruise. Our cruise went to Cozumel yesterday and is going to Grand Cayman today. The skies look nice and clear, so hopefully we will stop. We were delayed leaving Cozumel yesterday by about an hour due to high winds from a storm.

The only band I've listened to was the one with the female and male singers at the Captain's party last night. They're good. I've seen them as I've passed the Explorers Lounge in the evening. Our tablemate said that the duo in Wheelhouse aren't that great, but I haven't heard them for myself.

We switched our clocks ahead one hour the first night. The funny thing is that put us one hour ahead of the clocks in Cozumel yesterday. With our late departure, though, I don't think anyone missed the ship.

Thank you very much for the info on Cdre Romano being back, will be great to see him once again & the info regarding the bands. Hope your weather is better & have a great cruise :)

  8. It was explained to me that "gift" credits do not show on My Princess because sometimes the person making the gift wants it to be a surprise to the person who is cruising. In my case as the gift was from me to myself, I was able to receive an email confirming the amount of OBC. I printed it and took it along to be sure, but it was not necessary as all was in order when we cruised.

We agree....... always ask to get an email confirmation for whatever the items you have prepaid for since sometimes a gift coupon or item does not reach your cabin since turnaround day at the Port is very busy for everyone onboard the ship & could be overlooked unintentionally.

  9. Do these have to be delivered through room service or can I take one of the "certificates" to one of the bars and get my bucket of beer?

We were wondering the same thing. Princess told us that the coupons would be in cabin & ring the cabin steward & they would bring the brand we wanted.

We had Princess e-mail the pre-purchase of the beer so we would have proof once on board that we did indeed ordered it & paid for it in case the coupons never made it to the cabin since we ordered 2 of them :D:D. They are busy on the ship during turn-around day so the coupons could be overlooked.

  10. Also ask for an email to be sent to you for the things you have prepaid for. That way you will have proof on board ship that you paid for onboard credit, gifts, etc. in advance. We bought a couple of items by calling Princess direct, however, they never showed up on our booking on the Princess site. Asked why & the rep @ Princess said that he did not know. Anyway, requested a confirmation email for the items we prepaid for and Princess sent it.

  11. We booked online on the Princess website & picked an totally obstructed(had a little ocean view) ocean view forward. Email from Princess said we were being upgraded to almost midship with(almost full view) partial ocean view. About 1 month later, email from Princess says being upgraded to (almost midship) balcony. Last time cruised with Princess was 1999 which made a total of 4 cruises with Princess. This upcoming cruise will be cruise #5 & first time upgraded since cruising with Princess. Happy to be back with Princess :).

  12. Yes it has been a smaller OBC for a while now. However my thought process is this:

    • We pay $100 for the Future Cruise deposit

    • That same $100 is actually used as the deposit on a cruise

    • Princess then gives us FREE Money to spend onboard. :D

I like free money :D, regardless of amount, and am really glad Princess provides this enticement. :D

We agree, free money is always good since we are cruising anyway :)!
